يعتبر هذا الكتاب مجموعة من المقالات للعظيم جورج أورويل، بعضها سرد لوقائع وأحداث مر بها الكاتب، ومنها مقالات نقدية لبعض الروايات والكتب والأشخاص، حاول أن يجيب في هذا الكتاب عن بعض التساؤلات التي يطرحها الكاتب على نفسه وما الأهداف من وراء كتاباته! الأسلوب السهل والأنيق والساحر لأورويل يمنع منع باتا شعور القارئ بالملل. فأسلوب الساخر والمحيط يلمس شعور الشعوب المستبدة، ويضرب بقوة على رأس المستبدين أسلوب يعكس مصير الإنسان في الدول المستبدة، وصورة خوف الشعوب في فترات ما بعد الحرب، وما تجره عليها من ويلات ودمار. ولا يزال نجم أورويل يصعد حتى وقتنا هذا، والسبب هو انتشار الأنظمة الاستبدادية على أغلب دول العالم. وصك مصطلح الأورويلية وبعض المصطلحات الأخرى والتي دخلت في الثقافة الشعبية مثل ألفاظ عديدة أخرى من ابتكاره لشخصية الأخ الأكبر والتفكير المزدوج. والعاب الباردة وجريمة الفكر وشرطة الفكر، وغير ذلك من نسج خياله لكن تشعر معها وكأنها واقع يعاش وإن اختلفت الأزمنة والأمكنة.

Burmese Women Portrait Under the British Imperialism in Orwell’s Burmese Days
This study aims to expose the Burmese women portrait under British Imperialism. The writer believes that Burmese Days is created as a response to the social phenomenon that was happening during the process of its creation. This study used a qualitative method using a sociological approach by Laurenson and Swingewood. The data of this study were collected from the description and utterances of the characters and narrator in the novel. The result of this study shows that the women were portrayed as the slave of the English men. The women are not valuable, they merely become entertainment for the English men to entertain them. Even, some of the Europeans have concubines to accompany them in killing their time or killing their boredom. It looks like the women are created for the English men as dolls which can be played as often as they can, and of course, like a doll, they can be thrown easily after the English men being bored. As this research limited to the analysis of women portrait as a concubine for the English men, it is suggested for other researchers to analyze and find the relevant problems that still exist around the society, such as social inequality, resistance, obedience, strategy, gender, racism, corruption and other social aspects in the novel Burmese Days.

While titles such as 1984, Animal Farm and Homage to Catalonia are still rightly regarded as modern classics, his own politics are less well understood. Hope Lies in the Proles offers a sympathetic yet critical account of Orwell's political thinking and its continued significance today. John Newsinger explores various aspects of Orwell's politics, detailing Orwell's attempts to change working-class consciousness, considering whether his attitude towards the working class was romantic, realistic or patronising - or all three at different times. He also asks whether Orwell's anti-fascism was eclipsed by his criticism of the Soviet Union, and explores his ambivalent relationship with the Labour Party. Newsinger also breaks important new ground regarding Orwell's shifting views on the USA, and his relationship with the progressive Left and feminism.
