Handgun sales surge locally, statewide
2010
\"That's out there,\" said Kenneth Barker, 32, who teaches a course at Tri-Parish Police Supply in Houma. \"It's more speculation than anything.\" \"You can't pull a gun on someone who slaps you in the face or steps on your foot. They have to have a high threat level,\" [David Robichaux] said. \"When we explain all this stuff to them, it clicks -- 'Maybe I need a permit but I don't need to carry a (firearm) all the time.' \" \"When you have a downturn in the economy, people tend to get a little more nervous about their safety and the safety of their property,\" [Rachel Parsons] said. \"A lot of people tend to take their safety into their own hands.\"

Parsons, Rachel
2000
Crocus offers a huge range of 6,000 plants, but it was its design service which caught the [Rachel Parsons]' eye. \"A few days later, a Crocus van showed up and the driver planted it all up for us and told us how to look after everything. It was fantastic - a complete makeover for a fraction of the price you would normally pay.\" Crocus charge pounds 30 an hour for design, the planting service costs pounds 20 for the first five plants and pounds 3 for each one after that, and delivery is priced on a sliding scale. The whole job works out at around pounds 300 for a garden on the scale of Rachel and [Andrew]'s. Crocus competes with traditional garden centres not only on price but in the extent of its products and add-on services. At the heart of the site is its vast range of plants, searchable by name or category. If you're looking for a perfect shrub, you can select by colour, fragrance, size and soil type, so no expertise is required.

Bullets flying off the shelves
2009
LOS ANGELES -- There's a bull market for bullets. Stacks of ammo, once piled high at gun shops across America, have dwindled. Prices paid by consumers for much sought-after Winchester .380-caliber handgun bullets (a common name for cartridges) have doubled. At weekend gun shows, trailers loaded with boxes of ammunition are drained within hours.
