SLOVAKIA: MOSCOW'S CHARGE OF NGO PLOTTING IN BELARUS IS DENIED

Nikolai Patrushev, director of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB), the successor to the KGB, said Thursday that international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) had met in the Slovak capital late last year during Ukraine's U.S.-concocted so-called Orange Revolution to plan the downfall of Belarus president Alexander Lukashenko who is heartily despised by the U.S. as the \"last Soviet president.\" Balazs Jarabik from the Slovak Pontis Foundation, which illegally provides support for the Belarussian opposition, told the Slovak daily Sme: \"We have very good relations with the Belarussian opposition but these statements are the product of fantasy.\" Worryingly also for NGOs, Patrushev said new legislation would be proposed to the Duma in the near future on regulating the activities of foreign NGOs in Russia. He did not say what the legislation would involve but would probably include strict regulations on their movements and meetings with so-called dissidents.

China, Russia pledge closer security cooperation

Beijing, 9 January - China and Russia pledged to deepen security cooperation during a Wednesday meeting between State Councilor Dai Bingguo and Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev. Dai and Patrushev held in-depth discussions on China-Russia relations, as well as the current international and regional situation, according a press release issued for the eighth China-Russia strategic security consultation.

Japanese foreign minister meets visiting Russian presidential aide

Tokyo, 23 October - Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba met with visiting Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, who is an aide to President Vladimir Putin, on Tuesday [23 October] to discuss bilateral issues, chief among them a long-standing territorial dispute. During their meeting in Tokyo, Gemba and Patrushev are expected to confirm that they will work closely toward the planned visit to Russia by Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda in December, while discussing a range of issues from the security of East Asia to defence cooperation.
