Women and Power in Eighteenth-Century France: Actresses at the Comédie-Française
1994
Enlightenment reactions to accomplished women, in particular the prominent actresses of the Comedie-Francaise of the 18th century, who actually wielded power over men are analyzed. The question of whether or not the Revolution and the Englightenment strengthened patriarchy and thereby weakened women is also explored.
