Engaging Employees in Growth and Innovation
2025
An interview with Bob Stiller who founded Green Mountain Coffee Roasters in Waterbury, Vermont is presented. Stiller said that the first time we used it, we asked employees for new thoughts to improve our ability to execute. We took a group of about 20 people and taught them some very basic interviewing techniques. Then we paired them up and gave them a set of questions to ask their partner, some personal and some related to execution. It increased my faith in working with more people to find solutions and helped me realize that it's more than having a solution--it's also getting people to execute and be excited about the solution. I was always a very big believer in cocreation: If I had an idea, I would always share it with somebody else.

La sorella dell'Ave: The Story of Two Sisters
2024
Born in Rome in 1933, the fourth of seven siblings, Ludovica Ripa di Meana has inhabited the twentieth and twenty-first century of Italian culture with a uniquely multifaceted presence. After a childhood under Fascism and during WWII, she worked in publishing, radio, TV and cinema for many years, crossing paths and collaborating with many of the most important literary and intellectual figures of post-WWII Italy. Her beginning as poet was set off by a traumatic asthma attack that struck her during a trip. Ripa di Meana's poetic work has won prizes and has been staged in theaters across Italy. It has drawn praise from critics like Cesare Segre, Cesare Garboli, and Angelo Guglielmi. At the same time, she remains relatively unknown in Italy--certainly not as well-known as her unique voice and style deserve. Most of her poetic work is hard to find. Often, the many interviews published over the years focus on her biography, her aristocratic origins and her professional connections with famous male intellectuals and authors, and much less on exploring her creative work.

Bringing an Important International Perspective to an Editorial Board: Mourning a Major Loss
2023
An obituary for Dr. Martin Johnson, an Editorial Board Member of Quality Advancement in Nursing Education, who died on Feb 2023, is presented. Johnson was Emeritus Professor in Nursing at the University of Salford and served as Editor in Chief of the prestigious Nurse Education Today. In this role he led the formation of the NETNEP series of biennial international conferences, starting in Vancouver (2006), continuing in Dublin (2008) and Sydney (2010), and still held--most recently in Barcelona (2022). He contributed a considerable amount of experience, knowledge, passion, and support to the journal, always willing to discuss issues with respect and humor, review more submissions, suggest reviewers, and wondering what he could do more.
