Esplorazioni nel verde oscuro. Tre petrotesti leviani
2023

Energy policy
2007
This book offers the first comprehensive assessment of the various internal and external measures undertaken by the European Union to guarantee security of oil and gas supply. It sets out and analyses in a coherent and thorough manner those aspects of EU external policy that are relevant in establishing a framework for guaranteeing energy security for the Union. What makes the book unique is that it is the first of its kind to bridge the gap between EU energy and EU external policy. The book discusses EU policy towards the major oil and gas producing countries of Russia, the Mediterranean and the Persian Gulf at the bilateral as well as regional and multilateral level. It brings together not only the dimensions of trade and investment but also other important aspects of external policy, namely development and foreign policy. The author argues that the EU's energy security cannot be achieved through adopting a purely internal approach to energy issues, but that it is necessary to adopt a holistic approach to external policy, covering efficient economic relations as well as development co-operation and foreign policies towards energy producing countries. The book will be a valuable resource for students of EU law, WTO law or international energy law, as well as scholars and practitioners dealing with energy issues.
The resurrection of the body
2009
Italian novelist, poet, and filmmaker Pier Paolo Pasolini was brutally killed in Rome in 1975, a macabre end to a career that often explored humanity’s capacity for violence and cruelty. Along with the mystery of his murderer’s identity, Pasolini left behind a controversial but acclaimed oeuvre as well as a final quartet of beguiling projects that signaled a radical change in his aesthetics and view of reality. The Resurrection of the Body is an original and compelling interpretation of these final works: the screenplay Saint Paul, the scenario for Porn-Theo-Colossal, the immense and unfinished novel Petrolio, and his notorious final film, Salò or the 120 Days of Sodom, a disturbing adaptation of the writings of the Marquis de Sade. Together these works, Armando Maggi contends, reveal Pasolini’s obsession with sodomy and its role within his apocalyptic view of Western society. One of the first studies to explore the ramifications of Pasolini’s homosexuality, The Resurrection of the Body also breaks new ground by putting his work into fruitful conversation with an array of other thinkers such as Freud, Strindberg, Swift, Henri Michaux, and Norman O. Brown.

2015,2014
Offshore Oil and Gas Development in the Arctic under International Law explores the international legal framework for hydrocarbon development in the marine Arctic. It presents an assessment of the careful balance between States' sovereign rights to their resources, their obligations to uphold the rights of Arctic inhabitants and their duty to prevent injury to other States. It examines the rights of indigenous and other Arctic populations, the precautionary approach, the environmental impact assessment and the duty to monitor offshore hydrocarbon activities. It also analyses the application of the international law of responsibility in the event that the State fails to meet its primary obligations in the absence of a State's wrongful conduct.

2011
This book provides a general overview of syngas technologies as well as an in-depth analysis of the steam reforming process. Syngas is a mixture of hydrogen and carbon oxides which can be made from hydrocarbons, coal and biomass. It is an important intermediate in the chemical industry for manufacture of ammonia, methanol and other petrochemicals as well as hydrogen for refineries and fuel cells. Syngas is playing a growing role in the energy sector, because it can be converted into a number of important energy carriers and fuels. Syngas catalysis creates new options and flexibility in the complex energy network. The steam reforming process is the main technology today for manufacture of syngas. It is a complex intern-mingling of catalysis and heat transfer with restrictions caused by secondary phenomena such as carbon formation. Many of the principles are applicable for other gasification technologies of growing importance. Concepts of Syngas Preparation aims to provide a comprehensive introduction to this complex field of growing importance and gives a detailed analysis of the catalyst and process problems. This book also serves as an important link between science and industry by illustrating how the basic principles can be applied to solve design issues and operational problems.
Body
2017
The epilogue explores the idea of the author’s corporeal performance in Pasolini’s unfinished novel Petrolio. This book is an example of the metalinguistic interdisciplinary work that Pasolini was experimenting with in the last phase of his career. Through endless reworking and rewriting, Pasolini creates a close-knit web of intertextual and transtextual references. In particular, I examine the construction of what Pasolini describes as an “in the flesh” character-author. I also provide a performative reading of Dino Pedriali’s nude portraits of Pasolini, which were produced for Petrolio, but ultimately not included. In Pedriali’s photographs, Pasolini performs his authorship as a Barthesian erotic encounter with the reader, in which he fictitiously assumes a passive role, a queer position that perverts the conventional notion of the author as the powerful, male principle that controls the making of text. A different exposition of the author’s body to his audience is analyzed through Fabio Mauri performance piece entitled Intellettuale (Intellectual). In 1974, Mauri projected Pasolini’s Il Vangelo secondo Matteo (The Gospel according to Saint Matthew, 1964) directly onto the director’s body, who sat at the end of a dark hallway. By turning himself into a corporeal screen, Pasolini uses Mauri’s work to affirm the centrality of the author in our experience of his own work, revealing at the same time that his authorship is ultimately the result of a poetics of performance.

2009
This book shows how Sodom and its practice against nature dominate the last phase of Pier Paolo Pasolini's poetics. The screenplay Saint Paul, the scenario Porn-Theo-Colossal, the novel Petrolio, and the film Salò are carefully examined in the light of their multiple sources. The four works analyzed here are strictly connected to one another and obsessively revolve around the problem of sodomy and the sodomitical subject. An overview of the subsequent chapters is also presented.

A Diluted Reel of Film in My Brain
2009
This chapter analyzes the theme of form, which Pasolini identifies as the foundation of his novel, Petrolio. The author's initial claim that Petrolio is less about a plot than about the birth of a form is usually not taken as the actual foundation of the novel; it is examined as a philosophical statement that is often independent of the events narrated in the text. Consistent with the apocalyptic themes studied in the previous chapters, it is argued that this context “to give birth to a form,” as Pasolini says, signifies a sequence of interrelated concepts: a new way of seeing reality, but also the form of a new reality and the form of a new organism—the fetus of a new humanity. In other words, Petrolio is about the formation of a new world and a new way of inhabiting it.
