White guys on campus : racism, white immunity, and the myth of \post-racial\ higher education
\"White Men on Campus is a critical examination of the role of race on campus, especially among white men, in an effort to unveil the frequently unconscious habits of racism found within this group of students. Within the context of Trump's presidential win in the November 2016 election, and in the wake of various racial incidents on American college campuses, this book offers the views, experiences, and development of white male undergraduates at two universities with regard to race. In doing so, it details many of the contours of contemporary, systemic racism, while continually engaging the possibility of white students to engage in anti-racist actions. Cabrera moves beyond the \"few bad apples\" frame of contemporary racism explanation, and explores the structures, policies, ideologies, and experiences that allow racism to flourish. Ultimately, White Men on Campus takes seriously the narratives of white men on the subject of race, in particular how these views are formed. It calls upon institutions of higher education to be sites of social transformation instead of reinforcing systemic racism, while concurrently creating a platform to engage and challenge the public discourse of post-racialism\"-- Provided by publisher.
Rejoinder: multiculturalism and interculturalism: alongside but separate
This rejoinder reacts to the comments I have received of my defence of interculturalism (key-article of this Special Issue). Basically it defends the need to take seriously the distinctiveness between MC and IC, as friends rather than foes. It is also argued that the emergence of IC must be placed in the context of legitimacy crisis of MC and the process of policy paradigm change and formation. Then, it is briefly stated that IC tries to fill the epistemological limits of MC and must be considered as a mainstreaming policy within the “local turn” in migration and diversity studies. Moreover, it is contended that IC is a new public mindset and announces a new public culture in a society of multiple-identities. Finally that IC makes diversity workwith a view of diversity as an advantage (which means that it is policy resource for cultivating community cohesion, creativity, economic development, solidarity promotion, xenophobia reduction). Finally, I reckon that IC probably requires a multidimensional theory of contact and a more deep normative reflection in terms of public benefits.

Multicultural Media in a Post-Multicultural Canada? Rethinking Integration
This paper addresses the post-multicultural challenges that confront the integrative logic of Canada's multicultural media. Multicultural (or ethnic) media once complemented the integrative agenda of Canada's official multiculturalism, but the drift toward a post-multicultural Canada points to the possibility of a post-multicultural media that capitalizes on the positive aspects of multicultural media. The argument is predicated on the following assumption: an evolving context that no longer is multicultural but increasingly transnational, multiversal, and post-ethnic exposes the shortcomings of a multicultural media when applied to the lived-realities of those who resent being boxed into ethnic silos that gloss over multiple connections and multidimensional crossings. According to this line of argument, both diversity governance and ethnic media must reinvent themselves along more post-multicultural lines to better engage the transnational challenges and multiversal demands of a post-multicultural turn. Time will tell if a post-multicultural media can incorporate the strengths of a multicultural media, yet move positively forward in capturing the nuances of complex diversities and diverse complexities. Evidence would suggest \"yes\", and that a post-multicultural media may well represent an ideal that reflects and reinforces the new integrative realities of a post-ethnic Canada.
Race among Friends
Many saw the 2008 election of Barack Obama as a sign that America had moved past the issue of race, that a colorblind society was finally within reach. But as Marianne Modica reveals inRace Among Friends,attempts to be colorblind do not end racism-in fact, ignoring race increases the likelihood that racism will occur in our schools and in society.This intriguing volume focuses on a \"racially friendly\" suburban charter school called Excellence Academy, highlighting the ways that students and teachers think about race and act out racial identity. Modica finds that even in an environment where students of all racial backgrounds work and play together harmoniously, race affects the daily experiences of students and teachers in profound but unexamined ways. Some teachers, she notes, feared that talking about race in the classroom would open them to charges of racism, so they avoided the topic. And rather than generate honest and constructive conversations about race, student friendships opened the door for insensitive racial comments by whites, resentment and silence by blacks, and racially biased administrative practices. In the end, the school's friendly environment did not promote-and may have hindered-serious discussion of race and racial inequity.The desire to ignore race in favor of a \"colorblind society,\" Modica writes, has become an entrenched part of American culture. But asRace Among Friendsshows, when race becomes a taboo subject, it has serious ramifications for students and teachers of all ethnic origins.
Culture and PTSD
Since the 1970s, understanding of the effects of trauma, including flashbacks and withdrawal, has become widespread in the United States. As a result Americans can now claim that the phrase posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is familiar even if the American Psychiatric Association's criteria for diagnosis are not. As embedded as these ideas now are in the American mindset, however, they are more widely applicable, this volume attempts to show, than is generally recognized. The essays inCulture and PTSDtrace how trauma and its effects vary across historical and cultural contexts. Culture and PTSDexamines the applicability of PTSD to other cultural contexts and details local responses to trauma and the extent they vary from PTSD as defined in the American Psychiatric Association'sDiagnostic and Statistical Manual. Investigating responses in Peru, Indonesia, Haiti, and Native American communities as well as among combat veterans, domestic abuse victims, and adolescents, contributors attempt to address whether PTSD symptoms are present and, if so, whether they are a salient part of local responses to trauma. Moreover, the authors explore other important aspects of the local presentation and experience of trauma-related disorder, whether the Western concept of PTSD is known to lay members of society, and how the introduction of PTSD shapes local understandings and the course of trauma-related disorders. Redefining multicultural families in South Korea : reflections and future directions
Redefining Multicultural Families in South Korea  provides an in-depth look at the lives of families in Korea that include immigrants. Ten original chapters in this volume, written by scholars in multiple social science disciplines and covering different methodological approaches, aim to reinvigorate contemporary discussions about these multicultural families. Specially, the volume expands the scope of “multicultural families” by examining the diverse configurations of families with immigrants who crossed the Korean border during and after the 1990s, such as the families of undocumented migrant workers, divorced marriage immigrants, and the families of Korean women with Muslim immigrant husbands. Second, instead of looking at immigrants as newcomers, the volume takes a discursive turn, viewing them as settlers or first-generation immigrants in Korea whose post-migration lives have evolved and whose membership in Korean society has matured, by examining immigrants’ identities, need for political representation, their fights through the court system, and the aspirations of second-generation immigrants.
