2021
[Purpose/Significance] The purpose of this study is to analyze topographic mapping industry's policies of seven main areas of China and to recognize the development obstacles. [Method/Process] Methods of textual analysis were employed to quantify and study the policies from seven dimensions such as attention to the whole industry, basic infrastructure and industry supervision. [Results/Conclusions] Based on the analysis of keywords, we draw the conclusion: 1) the policy attention and policy effect differ greatly because of resource distribution, economic foundation, technologies and talented people; 2) The eastern areas take a significant advantage over the western areas in both policy attention and policy effect. Based on the findings, a set of strategic suggestions are proposed for the government: management system, market system, basic infrastructure, human resources training, and achievements management for the industry's healthy development.

Concomitant with the promotion of industrial transformation, sustainable development strategies, and accelerated urbanization, there has been an increase in the number of industrial relic restoration projects. However, there are many disputes over the value and development of such industrial relic restoration projects. In this work, we identified three evaluation indicators based on a study of 106 industrial relic restoration projects in China. A value assessment model composed of five parts combining the Delphi method and analytic hierarchy process was established. The results show that an effective assessment of the value of industrial relic restoration projects can enable the effective use of green technology, reduce construction costs, protect industrial heritage, and inherit historical culture. In addition, there are many uncertain factors in developing these projects, such as brownfield pollution and dilapidated buildings, and appropriate renewal strategies can reduce safety risks as well as maximize the heritage value. As there is limited research assessing the value of industrial relic restoration projects in China, our study can serve as a reference for the value assessment of existing building restoration projects including historical blocks and livable villages.

Analysis of influencing factors and prediction of China’s Containerized Freight Index
2023
China, as a major maritime nation, the China Containerized Freight Index (CCFI) serves as an objective reflection of the Chinese shipping market and an important indicator for understanding China’s shipping industry globally. The shipping market is a complex ecosystem influenced by various factors, including vessel supply and demand, cargo supply and demand relationships and prices, fuel prices, and competition from substitute and complementary markets. To analyze and study the state of the Chinese shipping market, we selected the CCFI as an indicator and collected data on six factors that may affect the overall shipping market. These factors include “ the China Coastal Bulk Freight Index(CCBFI)”, “the Baltic Dry Index(BDI)”, “the Yangtze River Container Freight Index”, “Global: Aluminum (minimum purity of 99.5%, London Metal Exchange (LME) spot price): UK landed price”, “Major Ports: Container Throughput”, and “Coal Price: US Central Appalachia: Coal Spot Price Index”. Then, we constructed an analyticaland predictive framework using Deep Neural Network (DNN), CatBoost regression model, and robust regression model to study the CCFI. Based on the R 2 results of the three models, it is evident that DNN provides the best analytical and predictive performance for the CCFI, accurately forecasting its changes. Additionally, the robust regression model indicates that “Global: Aluminum (minimum purity of 99.5%, LME spot price): UK landed price” has the greatest impact on the CCFI. Finally, from a business perspective, we provide some suggestions for China’s container shipping industry.

Professional advisory groups, with patient and public involvement (PPI) representatives, can be used for co-production within research projects. This paper aims to document the benefits and challenges of undertaking stakeholder and participant engagement for an implementation research project within NHS (National Health Service) Wales. A patient focused research project, initiated by clinicians, on the use of patient empowerment tools within standard patient care, used a professional advisory group to identify appropriate tools to use within the research proposal. The professional advisory group was made up of therapists, NHS stakeholders, academics and PPI representatives. A hybrid-meeting style was employed to optimise participation for all members of the group. Benefits of the professional advisory group included increased engagement and ownership of the study due to co-creation, and obtaining important contextual information and lived experience. However, challenges included keeping the discussion on topic due to pre-conceived agendas, pleasing everyone in the room due to varied backgrounds, and technological issues. Future professional advisory groups should consider how to facilitate the full involvement of PPI representatives within the discussion and having a variety of resources to present the topic of discussion. Furthermore, clearly communicating what the purpose and direction of the research project is and how it fits into the wider system, should be carefully considered. Overall, it was recognised that the professional advisory group was of significant value to shape the research proposal. Due to the situational challenges faced by healthcare professional within the NHS and preconceived ideas for solutions, it is hoped that by involving stakeholders early in the process there will be greater acceptance and usability of the research findings.

Railway heritage (RH) conservation protects significant industrial culture and can be instrumental in revitalizing post-industrial economies. China has abundant RH resources needing conservation to ensure their long-term survival. The purpose of this study was to define the value of RH based on an improved value evaluation system, discuss how the results influence RH tourism, and provide proposals for sustainable tourism accordingly. Firstly, the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) was used to evaluate the value of six RH sites from China’s First Industrial Heritage List. Then, the value advantages of the RH sites were analyzed by making comparisons among the six in the view of sustainable development, and the correlative details were interpreted to demonstrate the strengths and advantages of each resource. Finally, recommendations for RH tourism development were put forward based on these value advantages. The findings indicate that analyzing value advantages among similar resources in a competitive setting strengthens conservation and development decisions. Thus, balanced and sustainable development of RH tourism can be accomplished.

Analysis of Serang City Infrastructure Service Satisfaction Index (ISSI) and Direction of Utilization of Village Funds
2020
Research on infrastructure service satisfaction index, the direction of infrastructure development at the village level, and utilization of villages funds is still very minimal. The direction for the utilization of villages funds, in general, has been regulated in legislation, but there is no reference yet regarding the type of infrastructure that needs to be built in the villages, even though the process of infrastructure development planning is included in the development accountability assessment. The focus of this research is to analyze the direction of urban infrastructure development using village funds through analysis of the infrastructure service satisfaction index, community proposals, and the results of development evaluations. The research method used is qualitative through content analysis and interviews with village officials and planning officials in Serang City. The results showed that the acquisition of the infrastructure service satisfaction index value for each sub-district became a reference in determining the development of urban infrastructure, paying attention to the proposals of community priorities submitted at the meeting of urban residents, increasing the capacity of the apparatus and improving the development planning application system.

This article is the author’s first-person perspective of completing an Applied Practice Experience (APE) at an accredited public health program. Graduate-level public health students in the United States are mandated by the Council on Education for Public Health to complete this supervised field experience to apply knowledge and concepts to real-world public health practice. For his APE, the author worked with a faculty advisor and two community groups to facilitate and submit a community-based participatory research grant proposal. This article discusses the author’s experiences before, during, and after the APE. The author outlines challenges and success of working on this applied project. The article concludes with implications for public health education specialists regarding experiential learning and applied practice experiences for graduate students.

2014
Scientific journals, institutional review boards, and funding sources often require abstracts or research summaries written specifically for the lay public. Making research findings understandable to the public helps raise awareness and speed adoption of practices that may lead to improved health. We provide advice on writing lay abstracts and summaries which includes the following: (1) make reasonable assumptions about grade-level, vocabulary, prior experience, and interests of the audience; (2) practice a verbal explanation with someone from your audience; (3) start writing by using a simple headline followed by a brief and relevant synopsis in common language then expand; (4) read your draft aloud and revise; (5) check readability statistics and simplify as needed; and (6) have both lay audience and peer scientists read your summary to assure that it is accessible to the public while remaining true to the science.
