Prisoners Learn to Quilt to Make Presents For Foster Children
2021
\"Ten years ago, the South Central Correctional Facility in Licking, Missouri, started a program called \"prison quilting circle.\" This program teaches prisoners how to sew and make quilts. Since the program was started, prison residents have sewn over 2000 personalized quilts. These quilts are either sold at auctions to benefit local charities, or they are donated to children in foster care. Children live in foster care when their birth parents can't care for them. The quilters make each quilt unique by adding different patterns and colors. The quilts are often given to foster children as birthday presents.\" (NewsCurrents Read to Know) Learn more about the South Central Correctional Facility's quilt program.
