TEEN RECALLS MOM'S SLAYING
2011
\"My mom was lying there, in her bed,\" she recalled. A blanket covered Bianca Sierra's body. Cionie remembered removing it. Cionie Sierra couldn't answer. She dabbed at her tears and nearly a minute passed before she looked up. \"Like something happened,\" she said. \"There was blood.\" Jurors had already seen gruesome crime scene photos depicting Bianca Sierra's body lying facedown on her bed in her Pompano Beach apartment. Prosecutors say [Jorge Ayala-Villamizar] bashed the woman's head in, stole her car, and fled the state. He was captured five years later, in Texas, after the crime was featured on the television show \"America's Most Wanted.\"

Missing body is bargaining chip in plea appeal
2014
[Paul Trucchio] also has moved to disqualify the Broward State Attorney's Office and has run through six judges and a string of defense lawyers. The court most recently appointed George Reres to defend him, but both Trucchio and the lawyer himself now want him off the case. \"He is abusing the process,\" said [Scott Raft], adding that [Lorraine Hatzakorzian]'s family will never get closure as long as Trucchio continues to be allowed to file \"frivolous\" appeals. Reres also said there may be some merit to Trucchio's argument that [Ilona Holmes] should not have accepted his plea. During that hearing, Trucchio turned to Hatzakorzian's family in the courtroom gallery and said he was pleading guilty even though he was innocent, an indication that his plea was not sincere, Reres said.

Murder admission can be used in trial: An appeals court declared Wednesday that a Hollywood man's hospital-bed confession can be used against him at trial. Ross Morgan stands charged in the 2003
2006
The Morgans planned to kill themselves on March 13, 2003 in their Cleveland Street duplex in Hollywood. But their pact didn't go as planned: [Elaine Morgan] died with his help, police said. He then tried to kill himself, but survived. If it goes to trial, [George Reres] said he will argue that Morgan is not guilty by reason of insanity. He noted that a court-appointed psychologist diagnosed Morgan as suffering from folie deux, a rare psychotic disorder in which two people share a common delusion. The couple, married 24 years, did not have close friends. They spent their time watching movies at home and playing video games. Reres said Morgan is doing much better today. He is on psychiatric medication and is back in touch with his family from his cell in the Broward County Jail.

LAWYER: MURDERER DIED IN HIS CELL FORMER BROWARD LIBRARIAN WAS ON STATE'S DEATH ROW
2008
William Coday, 51, bled to death in his cell at Union Correctional Institution in Raiford from what are being called self-inflicted wounds, said one of his attorneys, George Reres. Coday had a history of suicidal behavior and had attempted to kill himself while awaiting trial at the Broward County Jail. The Florida Supreme Court tossed out the death sentence in 2006, ruling that the judge shouldn't have disregarded testimony and evidence from six mental health experts who found that Coday suffered from serious mental illnesses. The case went back to the judge, who again sentenced Coday to die. \"[His death] surprised me because on Death Row one would have assumed that he was more closely watched,\" [Stella Sands] said. \"It didn't surprise me because he was a very brilliant man and I don't think he could live with himself. He knew he was highly flawed as a human being.\"
