Cross-validating the measurement scale for consumers’ experience with hospitality and tourism technology: a multi-sector approach
Purpose This study aims to cross-validate the technology experience (TE) scale and examine the potential differences in consumer TE across three different sectors. Design/methodology/approach Across three separate studies, the TE scale and its psychometric properties and consequences were examined across three distinctive hospitality and tourism (H&T) sectors: accommodations (n = 640), food and beverage (n = 615) and tourism (n = 592). Findings The findings consistently show that TE is a second-order formative construct with nine dimensions. Furthermore, the factor structure of consumer TE is consistent across the focal sectors, enhancing the TE scale’s generalizability. While the dimensions consisting of TE were identical across the three sectors, the composites of TE were formed differently across the sectors, demonstrating the differences in consumers’ TE across the three sectors. Practical implications This research offers practical implications to the H&T industry regarding the different impacts of various TE dimensions on consumers’ overall experiences, thereby creating overall satisfaction and behavioral intentions. Originality/value To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this research was the first attempt to examine the differences in consumers’ TE across the sectors of the H&T industry. By identifying the different impacts of TE dimensions on consumers’ overall experience, this research provides theoretical and practical contributions by confirming the distinct characteristics of the sectors under the H&T industry.
On a City Guide App Model
For the travel industry, technology, digitalization, and connectivity are factors of significant importance. We proposed a city guide app (CGA) model in this research. The general city tourist information is enormous, but it is essential to know the information of interest for travelers and useful for mobile applications. We used an online survey to detect this kind of information. The interviewees were young people aged 20 to 24 from Romania who used at least a CGA while travelling in different cities, especially abroad. We kept forty questions for the proposed model—sixteen from the previous research on app quality, user habits, travel agency app usage, behavioral intention, twenty-four questions on touristic information proposed by us. We used the partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) method. We concluded which touristic information influences mobile app quality and behavioral intention. Given the age and location of our interviewees, this information could be different, considering the respondent age, location, and habits. Whether we are talking about passionate information technology (IT) developers, city halls, or travel agencies, this study is helpful for those who want to develop a CGA.

Globalizing the DPRK? Domestic Developments and Cultural Globalization in North Korean Cuisine
Article Type: Research Paper Purpose-This paper aims to shed light on North Korean food culture, explore the ways in which North Korean cuisine has changed since the 1990s and the extent to which such changes are influenced by global food trends. Design, Methodology, Approach-Methodologically, this paper relies on secondary sources and prior analyses of North Korean society and culture in combination with autobiographical works, journalistic pieces, travel guides, and cookbooks. Findings-Domestic conditions, primarily social class and geography, determine the exposure to and enjoyment of global foodstuffs. Elites and Pyongyangites experience what the regime allows and puts forth; the rising dongu may consume more foreign products and be more aware of global consumer trends, but their access to such goods is geographically limited. Consumption patterns of the poorest North Koreans are shaped by survival mechanisms rather than global forces. The regime and North Korean diasporas are globalizing North Korean culture abroad. No country or culture exists in isolation, so elements of cultural globalization can be readily observed, even if fragmented and uneven. Practical Implications- This paper provides a useful synthesis and analysis for scholars, students, or anyone else interested in or researching cultural globalization, cuisine, or North Korean culture and society. Originality, value- North Korean culture is under-researched and systematically left out of discussions regarding food culture, cultural analyses, and globalization. This paper aims to remedy this neglect by including North Korea in these academic realms.
