Towards a theory of denominals : a look at incorporation, phrasal spell-out and spanning
In Towards a Theory of Denominals, Adina Camelia Bleotu proposes a novel spanning analysis of denominals, arguing for its explanatory superiority to incorporation/conflation or nanosyntax in accounting for the formation and behaviour of such verbs in English and Romanian.
The Evolution of Dependent Subjunctive in Romanian Language
We focused in this paper on the dependent use of subjunctive in different stages of Romanian language (from the 16th century to the 21st century). We discuss the elements that precede this verbal form and the semantic field they belong to (possibility, probability, certainty, knowledge etc.), some differences due to the evolution of Romanian language and the occurrence of subjunctive in some subordinate clauses.
A Reference Grammar of Romanian
Based on recent research in formal linguistics, this volume provides a thorough description of the whole system of Romanian Noun Phrases, understood in an extended sense, that is, in addition to nouns, pronouns and determiners, it examines all the adnominal phrases: genitive-marked DPs, adjectives, relative clauses, appositions, prepositional phrases, complement clauses and non-finite modifiers. The book focuses on syntax and the syntax-semantics interface but also includes a systematic morphological description of the language. The implicitly comparative description of Romanian contained in the book can serve as a starting point for the study of the syntax/semantics of Noun Phrases in other languages, regardless of whether or not they are typologically related to Romanian. This book will be of special interest to linguists working on Romanian, Romance languages, comparative linguistics and language typology, especially because Romanian is relevant for comparative linguistics not only as a Romance language, but also as part of the so-called Balkan Sprachbund.
Asymmetries in Acquisition of Interrogative Sentences
Recent research on the acquisition of wh-questions has revealed several developmental asymmetries. Data from an impressive number of studies have provided evidence that some wh-questions are more difficult than others. However, this difficulty has been argued to be subject to differences determined by language specific properties, showing that extending the investigation to as many languages as possible may contribute to a better understanding of the factors which determine the acquisition route of wh-questions and the acquisition of syntax in general. This book offers a chart of the acquisition of wh-questions in child Romanian, investigating the availability of possible developmental asymmetries in the acquisition of wh-questions. It focuses on the production of wh-questions in spontaneous speech and in experimental data, considering the comprehension of wh-questions in spontaneous conversation and in an experimental context. The results of the investigation are used to evaluate the explanatory power of Child Relativized Minimality (CRM) and the AGREE Interference approach (AIA).
