Az Europol-együttműködés tapasztalatai
Aim: The aim of the article is to present the practical experience of cooperation between Europol, which plays a key role in international criminal cooperation, and Hungary. Methodology: The author collected knowledge about the operation of Europol and its investigative support services by studying the available EU legislation, and by working as the Head of the Hungarian Liaison Bureau at Europol, as well as by carrying out the tasks of the former expert in the cyber-attacks priority and the deputy national EMPACT coordinator. Findings: Europol’s system of cooperation with the Member States and operational and strategic partners provides the law enforcement agencies of the countries concerned with an opportunity that no other agency, institution or organisation can offer. In addition to supporting specific investigations, the institutional system also provides countries with IT, strategic and financial support. Value: The article aims to provide a practical and comprehensive overview of the state of cooperation with Europol, to give a deeper insight into the day-to-day work of the law enforcement and judicial authorities and to provide the interested reader with contextualized insights into the steps and processes involved. Cél: Az írás célja a nemzetközi bűnügyi együttműködésben kiemelt szerepet betöltő Europol és Magyarország közötti együttműködés tapasztalatainak gyakorlati szempontú bemutatása. Módszertan: Az Europol működésével és a nyomozásokat támogató szolgáltatásaival kapcsolatos ismereteket az elérhető uniós szabályozások áttanulmányozásával, valamint a jelenleg ellátott Europol Magyar Összekötő Iroda, irodavezetői feladatainak ellátásával, továbbá a kibertámadások prioritásban korábban betöltött szakértői, és a nemzeti EMPACT koordinátor helyettesi feladatok gyakorlati végrehajtásával gyűjtötte a szerző. Megállapítások: Az Europol által a tagállamok, valamint az operatív és stratégiai partnerek részvételével kialakított együttműködési rendszere olyan lehetőséget biztosít az érintett országok rendvédelmi szervei számára, amelyeket más ügynökség, intézmény, szerveződés nem képes. A konkrét nyomozások támogatásán túl az intézményrendszer informatikai, stratégiai és pénzügyi támogatásokat is nyújt az országoknak. Érték: A tanulmány gyakorlati jellegű, átfogó képet kíván mutatni az Europollal való együttműködés helyzetéről, amelynek segítségével a bűnügyi és igazságügyi hatóságok munkatársai mélyebb betekintést kaphatnak a mindennapi feladatvégrehajtással kapcsolatban, illetve az érdeklődők összefüggéseiben is értelmezett válaszokat kaphatnak az egyes lépésekről, folyamatokról.

Comparing Refractive Prediction Accuracy of IOL Master 700 and Sirius Utilizing the Barrett Universal II Formula

The participants ranged in age from 36 to 91 years, with a mean age of 65.38 ± 14.84 years. Axial length from IOLMaster 700 and corneal curvature, anterior-chamber depth and white-to-white from both devices were entered into the BarErett Universal II calculator to obtain predicted post-operative spherical equivalent (PRP). One week after uneventful phacoemulsification with monofocal intraocular lens implantation, manifest refraction provided the actual spherical equivalent (SE). Prediction error (ΔPRE = PRP - SE) and absolute error |ΔPRE| were primary outcomes.Results: Both devices produced positive ΔPRE, but the median was lower for IOLMaster 700 than for Sirius (0.41 D vs 0.73 D; p < 0.05). Median |ΔPRE| was also smaller for IOLMaster 700 (0.61 D vs 0.80 D; p < 0.05). Eyes within ± 0.50 D of target refraction numbered 45.5% for IOLMaster 700 versus 26.0% for Sirius (p < 0.05). Subgroup analysis showed no difference in error magnitude between long (AL > 25 mm) and normal axial-length eyes.Conclusion: Under the Barrett Universal II formula, IOLMaster 700 yields more accurate refractive predictions than Sirius, with smaller systematic drift and absolute error, irrespective of axial length. Thus, IOLMaster 700 with Barrett Universal II is the preferred biometry for superior refractive accuracy. Heat tolerance around flowering in wheat identified as a key trait for increased yield potential in Europe under climate change
To deliver food security for the 9 billon population in 2050, a 70% increase in world food supply will be required. Projected climatic and environmental changes emphasize the need for breeding strategies that delivers both a substantial increase in yield potential and resilience to extreme weather events such as heat waves, late frost, and drought. Heat stress around sensitive stages of wheat development has been identified as a possible threat to wheat production in Europe. However, no estimates have been made to assess yield losses due to increased frequency and magnitude of heat stress under climate change. Using existing experimental data, the Sirius wheat model was refined by incorporating the effects of extreme temperature during flowering and grain filling on accelerated leaf senescence, grain number, and grain weight. This allowed us, for the first time, to quantify yield losses resulting from heat stress under climate change. The model was used to optimize wheat ideotypes for CMIP5-based climate scenarios for 2050 at six sites in Europe with diverse climates. The yield potential for heat-tolerant ideotypes can be substantially increased in the future (e.g. by 80% at Seville, 100% at Debrecen) compared with the current cultivars by selecting an optimal combination of wheat traits, e.g. optimal phenology and extended duration of grain filling. However, at two sites, Seville and Debrecen, the grain yields of heat-sensitive ideotypes were substantially lower (by 54% and 16%) and more variable compared with heat-tolerant ideotypes, because the extended grain filling required for the increased yield potential was in conflict with episodes of high temperature during flowering and grain filling. Despite much earlier flowering at these sites, the risk of heat stress affecting yields of heat-sensitive ideotypes remained high. Therefore, heat tolerance in wheat is likely to become a key trait for increased yield potential and yield stability in southern Europe in the future.
Optimization of Sirius Red-Based Microplate Assay to Investigate Collagen Production In Vitro
Tissue fibrosis is characterized by chronic fibroblast activation and consequently excessive accumulation of collagen-rich extracellular matrix. In vitro microplate-based assays are essential to investigate the underlying mechanism and the effect of antifibrotic drugs. In this study, in the absence of a gold-standard method, we optimized a simple, cost-effective, Sirius Red-based colorimetric measurement to determine the collagen production of fibroblasts grown on 96-well tissue culture plates. Based on our findings, the use of a serum-free medium is recommended to avoid aspecific signals, while ascorbate supplementation increases the collagen production of fibroblasts. The cell-associated collagens can be quantified by Sirius Red staining in acidic conditions followed by alkaline elution. Immature collagens can be precipitated from the culture medium by acidic Sirius Red solution, and after subsequent centrifugation and washing steps, their amount can be also measured. Increased attention has been paid to optimizing the assay procedure, including incubation time, temperature, and solution concentrations. The resulting assay shows high linearity and sensitivity and could serve as a useful tool in fibrosis-related basic research as well as in preclinical drug screening.
Simplifying and understanding various topographic indices for keratoconus using Scheimpflug based topographers
Keratoconus (KC) is a progressive ectatic corneal disorder. There are multiple topographic devices and their varied indices used for diagnosis, detecting progression, and deciding management. It is important to understand the repeatablility, intra- test variabililty, and comparability amongst various topographic devices. The Scheimpflug camera-based devices, such as the Pentacam (Oculus, Wetzlar, Germany), Galilei (Ziemer, Biel, Switzerland), and Sirius (Costruzione Strumenti Oftalmici, Florence, Italy) are known to assist in the detection of early keratoconus and subclinical keratoconus. This article reviews the various Scheimpflug camera-based devices in depth, addressing their different indices, diagnostic accuracy, repeatability, and agreement and identifying the strongest parameter of each device. It will guide the practicing clinician by giving practical tips for decision making in the diagnosis and management of keratoconus.
Synchrotron infrared nanospectroscopy in fourth-generation storage rings
Fourth-generation synchrotron storage rings represent a significant milestone in synchrotron technology, offering outstandingly bright and tightly focused X-ray beams for a wide range of scientific applications. However, due to their inherently tight magnetic lattices, these storage rings have posed critical challenges for accessing lower-energy radiation, such as infrared (IR) and THz. Here the first-ever IR beamline to be installed and to operate at a fourth-generation synchrotron storage ring is introduced. This work encompasses several notable advancements, including a thorough examination of the new IR source at Sirius, a detailed description of the radiation extraction scheme, and the successful validation of our optical concept through both measurements and simulations. This optimal optical setup has enabled us to achieve an exceptionally wide frequency range for our nanospectroscopy experiments. Through the utilization of synchrotron IR nanospectroscopy on biological and hard matter samples, the practicality and effectiveness of this beamline has been successfully demonstrated. The advantages of fourth-generation synchrotron IR sources, which can now operate with unparalleled stability as a result of the stringent requirements for producing low-emittance X-rays, are emphasized.
Arthroaspis n. gen., a common element of the Sirius Passet Lagerstätte (Cambrian, North Greenland), sheds light on trilobite ancestry
Exceptionally preserved Palaeozoic faunas have yielded a plethora of trilobite-like arthropods, often referred to as lamellipedians. Among these, Artiopoda is supposed to contain taxa united by a distinctive appendage structure. This includes several well supported groups, Helmetiida, Nektaspida, and Trilobita, as well as a number of problematic taxa. Interrelationships remain unclear, and the position of the lamellipedian arthropods as a whole also remains the subject of debate. Arthroaspis bergstroemi n. gen. n. sp., a new arthropod from the early Cambrian Sirius Passet Lagerstätte of North Greenland shows a striking combination of both dorsal and ventral characters of Helmetiida, Nektaspida, and Trilobita. Cladistic analysis with a broad taxon sampling of predominantly early Palaeozoic arthropods yields a monophyletic Lamellipedia as sister taxon to the Crustacea or Tetraconata. Artiopoda is resolved as paraphyletic, giving rise to the Marrellomorpha. Within Lamellipedia, a clade of pygidium bearing taxa is resolved that can be shown to have a broadly helmetiid-like tergite morphology in its ground pattern. This morphology is plesiomorphically retained in Helmetiida and in Arthroaspis, which falls basally into a clade containing Trilobita. The trilobite appendages, though similar to those of other lamellipedians in gross morphology, have a unique outward rotation of the anterior trunk appendages, resulting in a 'hard wired' lateral splay, different to that observed in other Lamellipedia. The combination of helmetiid, trilobite, and nektaspid characters in Arthroaspis gives important hints concerning character polarisation within the trilobite-like arthropods. The distinctive tergite morphology of trilobites, with its sophisticated articulating devices, is derived from flanged edge-to-edge articulating tergites forming a shield similar to the helmetiids, previously considered autapomorphic for that group. The stereotypical lateral splay of the appendages of lamellipedians is a homoplastic character shown to be achieved by several groups independently.
Evaluation of Higher Order Aberrations and Anterior Segment Parameters Changes After Implantable Collamer Lens Implantation for High Myopia
To evaluate changes in higher order aberrations (HOAs) induced by implantable collamer lens (ICL) implantation in correction of high myopia and to compare the anterior segment parameters before and after surgery. Also, to correlate these parameters with HOAs, the best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and intraocular pressure (IOP). This prospective interventional cohort case series study included 40 eyes with high myopia that underwent ICL V4c implantation. They were evaluated pre-operatively and post-operatively at 1 and 3 month HOAs using Scheimpflug Sirius Camera. The anterior segment parameters were evaluated by optical biometry. Correlations between HOAs, BCVA and anterior segment parameters were evaluated. The mean pre-operative BCVA was 0.67 ± 0.17, while post-operative BCVA was 0.74 ± 0.16 ( -value < 0.001). The spherical equivalent was -13.66 ± 2.23 pre-operatively, while post-operatively it was -0.77 ± 0.65 ( -value < 0.001). The mean pre-operative root mean square (RMS) of HOAs was 0.62 ± 0.11 µm, while mean post-operative RMS in the 1st month was 0.82 ± 0.29 µm ( -value < 0.001). At 3rd month, it was 0.63 ± 0.17 µm ( -value = 0.685). The mean pre-operative anterior chamber depth (ACD) was 3.66 ± 0.26 mm. It decreased in the post-operative 1 month to 3.46 ± 0.30 mm, while in 3 month 3.45 ± 0.24 mm ( -value < 0.001, < 0.001) respectively. The mean pre-operative anterior chamber angle (ACA) 45.98 ± 8.39 while, the mean ACA was 31.65 ± 4.14, 31.03 ± 3.74 post-operatively ( -value < 0.001, < 0.001) respectively. There was significant increase in IOP ( -value < 0.001). ICL implantation is safe and effective in correction of high myopia, as HOAs increase at first month post-operatively then, return to the pre-operative level by 3 month. However, anterior segment parameters show significant changes which may need longer follow up.
