POLITICS [AS LITERARY, CULTURAL & IDEOLOGICAL THEME]
1969
The Instrucción del Relator is a political document unique in its time, inspired by a highly significant historical event and written by a public personality of great, if still largely unacknowledged, importance. Yet the use which has been made of it by modern scholars has been directed chiefly to the elucidation of problems in fifteenth-century genealogy. Those critics who have considered the Instrucción from an ideological viewpoint have still tended, on the whole, to subordinate their account of it to general considerations about the entire fifteenth-century debate on the treatment of the conversos.
