District mulls developer's request
2007
\"We truly are between a rock and a hard place if you don't allow us,\" James W. Sharp, president of American Communities Inc., told the school board Thursday night. \"I'm going to have 67 acres tied up at one intersection.\" \"I see a distinct advantage in being able to take our buses down through to your traffic light,\" board member John F. Love said. \"Daily traffic on Route 342 has been a problem for years. When you add even more traffic, I think this would be beneficial to us.\" \"Unfortunately, it's the nature of progress,\" Mr. Sharp told the board. \"Whether or not there's a connection, we just have to accept the fact there's going to be more traffic.\"

LeRay says upgrades may swing decision on road
2007
\"If the road were brought up to town standards, the town might be willing to take it,\" town Supervisor Ronald C. Taylor said after Thursday's Town Council meeting. \"We're open to discussion.\" American Communities Inc., Jacksonville, Ore., has proposed to bring a hotel, movie theater, car dealership and retail stores to the parcel directly west of Calcium Primary School on Route 342 in LeRay. But American Communities president James W. Sharp said he will be \"between a rock and a hard place\" if he isn't allowed to connect to Indian River Drive -- a private loop in front of the school -- in order to create two entrances to his proposed project. \"The town is going to have to put some money into roads down through there,\" he said. \"Maybe this is one of them.\"
