Child falls from third-story window
[John Sherwin] said there was a couch against the window of the apartment. The accident occurred when the child's \"mother was cleaning at the time and the child went off the couch and out the window,\" Sherwin said.

Rochester officer fires gun while being dragged
[Brian Winters] said while [John Sherwin] was talking to the driver, he put the vehicle in gear and started to accelerate. Winters said somehow Sherwin got entangled in the vehicle and was dragged out of the parking lot and into the alley before freeing himself. Winters said Sherwin then drew his pistol and fired two rounds at the vehicle in an attempt to get it to stop.

CAA Niagara is working with local chambers of commerce and the Peace Bridge Authority to raise awareness of the new rules under what's known as the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative. The agency is also working with American Automotive Association branches in Ohio, Western New York and Pennsylvania, asking them to raise awareness among the millions of U.S. visitors who drive to Niagara each year that they'll soon need valid identification. CAA Niagara's branches have passport applications. Passport photos can be taken at CAA branches, Shoppers Drug Mart locations and various other locations in Niagara.

\"Now that IBC-approved theft deterrent systems or immobilizers are commonly in place in newer vehicles, auto thieves have been turning increasingly to older vehicles,\" said Rick Dubin, vice- president of investigations. John Sherwin, of CAA Niagara, said vehicle theft costs Canadians $600 million a year in insurance claims. Many insurance companies offer discounts to customers whose vehicles are equipped with approved theft deterrent systems. To guard against theft, CAA Niagara urges motorists to park their vehicles in a well-lit area, to always lock the doors and make sure the windows are rolled up.
