2005
\"Now that IBC-approved theft deterrent systems or immobilizers are commonly in place in newer vehicles, auto thieves have been turning increasingly to older vehicles,\" said Rick Dubin, vice- president of investigations. John Sherwin, of CAA Niagara, said vehicle theft costs Canadians $600 million a year in insurance claims. Many insurance companies offer discounts to customers whose vehicles are equipped with approved theft deterrent systems. To guard against theft, CAA Niagara urges motorists to park their vehicles in a well-lit area, to always lock the doors and make sure the windows are rolled up.
