\"The response was wonderful,\" [Baker] said before the game. \"There has been a lot of playful talk about taking each other down. The students and faculty have been having a lot of fun with it.\" \"It means so much to me just to know that many children will receive toys at Christmas,\" Baker said. \"This is what it's all about.\" \"I am always preaching to them that I not only want to give them a future in softball but life lessons as well,\" [Shawn Simon] said. \"I thought it was a great idea. Lake Weir students give life to toy drive
\"If it is late in the game and we need a clutch hit, or home run, I'm thinking I am going to take a swing for the kids,\" [Shawn Simon] said. \"It should be a pretty good game. The Lake Weir staff has a few who can play a little ball.\" \"It means so much to me just to know that many children will receive toys at Christmas,\" [Baker] said. \"This is what it's all about.\" \"I am always preaching to them that I not only want to give them a future in softball, but life lessons as well,\" Simon said. \"I thought it was a great idea. Lake Weir softball coach resigns
\"When you have something going good, people want to be a part of it,\" [Shawn Simon] said. \"The softball program at Lake Weir has definitely been a positive ... I remember coach (Mark) Hinterthan brought (Lake Weir's) football team out to watch how our girls took the field and the pride that they showed. How will North Marion recover from last year's heavy graduation losses' What will we see out of the area's three new coaches (John Brantley, Trinity Catholic, Jim Lindsay, West Port and Greg Bigham, Vanguard)' Can Lake Weir sustain the momentum it gained at the end of last season' Will anyone be able to finally solve Belleview's double-wing offense' Will the hard work in the weight room during the off-season for Forest translate into success on the field' Is this the year that Dunnellon breaks through into the playoffs'
The heretic and the rabbi
If you asked someone \"Why did you want to become a rabbi?\" the answer \"Because of my Jewish hero\" might make you think of King David, Hillel, or Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach. But Shawn Simon's Jewish hero might raise a few eyebrows - it is none other than Elisha ben Abuya, the famous heretic of the Talmud. Simon, 35, is a student at Jerusalem's Schecter Institute for Jewish Studies this year, continuing to learn to become a Conservative rabbi. A forceful and articulate speaker, he clearly has many ideas boiling up inside him concerning the future of the Jewish People; yet a few years ago, becoming a rabbi was the furthest thing from his mind. At this point, Elisha, a 2,000-year-old Jewish unbeliever, entered the stage when someone recommended Simon read As a Driven Leaf by Rabbi Milton Steinberg. This was the story of the infamous talmudic heretic, written as modern fiction. Simon found this tragic, torn personality deeply moving.
Lake Weir ousted from district tournament by Leesburg
\"That's just how it falls sometimes,\" [Shawn Simon] said. \"You can't always have it your way. \"That home run was big for them and got them off to a good start,\" Simon said. \"I thought we had the momentum there in the sixth, but we just made too many mistakes.\" Vanguard's Meredith Foster scattered 6 hits and didn't walk a batter to go along with 5 strikeouts, but Kat Vloedman's RBI single in the bottom of the fourth proved to be the difference.

Two sentenced for Logan arson, fraud scheme
A federal judge sentenced two people Thursday for their roles in a Logan arson and insurance fraud scheme. Michael Williams and Shawn Simon appeared in separate sentencing hearings before U.S. District Judge Thomas Johnston. Williams is accused of setting fire to the vacant Logan property and Simon is accused of destroying the DVR that recorded the arson. Williams, who prosecutors called the \"matchman, pleaded guilty in January to a single count indictment of conspiracy to commit arson. In his hearing, Williams said he was sorry for his conduct. He also said he was \"the wrong person at the wrong time and \"didn't get a penny from the scheme. In handing down his sentence, Johnston said destroying evidence can't be tolerated and he also cited Simon's two previous federal drug felonies.
Exploring Arson, Recovery and Friendship
Because Mr. Simons has been busy lately, though -- he got married in August in what Mr. Llanos said was \"a beautiful ceremony in Cancun\" -- being the chatty one for a change is something Mr. Llanos is willing to do.
