A Study of Shading Selection Strategy for Natural Ventilation of Office Buildings in Jakarta
In this post-Covid-19 pandemic, the existence of a space that is connected to outside air circulation is a necessity. This is because good air circulation can reduce the potential for the spread of Covid-19 indoors. One of the challenges in implementing natural ventilation is the entry of excess solar heat into the building. One strategy that can be done to avoid the entry of excess solar heat is to use shadows to filter sunlight. This study examined the appropriate shading strategy that can be applied to overcome the problem of excessive solar heat in the ventilation section of office buildings in Jakarta. The research will be conducted using an experimental method, Sketchup’s Pre-Design simulation. The simulation results show that Eggcrate and Automated Blinds shading are two types that can reduce harmful solar heat entering the building the highest compared to other types of shading.

Testing the Level of Creativity and Spatial Imagination in the SketchUp Program Using a Modified Urban Test of Creative Thinking
The authors focus on innovating the research tool Urban’s Test of Creativity to enhance the evaluation and efficiency of the educational process. This paper presents the possibility of measuring creativity and spatial imagination in the SketchUp virtual environment. Teachers and HR professionals in modern companies require an overview of the key competencies of students and graduates, essential for the transformation towards Industry 5.0. The authors utilize the proven concept of Urban’s Test, modify it into a digital format, and integrate new elements that assess spatial visualization and functional creativity. Teachers and HR professionals gain an efficient tool that is easy to evaluate, time-efficient, and requires minimal infrastructure. The modified research tool is suitable for conducting action research and allows for comparing respondents’ results using quantitative methods. This pilot study aimed to validate the modified test and its properties. A total of one hundred respondents, divided into five groups based on age and education (approximately 10 to 25 years old), were tested. The results confirmed that the concept of Urban’s Test of Creativity can be successfully adapted for commonly available 3D modeling environments. Moreover, it was confirmed that within the target group, the level of spatial visualization improves gradually with age.
SketchUp for builders : a comprehensive guide for creating 3D building models using SketchUp
The only comprehensive SketchUp guide written for builders and contractors SketchUp is a 3D modeling application used in areas ranging from civil and mechanical engineering to motion picture and video game design. Three-dimensional modeling is of obvious value to the building industryyet resources for transforming architectural designs into reality is surprisingly limited. SketchUp for Builders is the first comprehensive guide designed specifically for builders and contractors, providing step-by-step instructions on incorporating 3D modeling into all phases of the construction process. Author John Brock draws from his 30 years of experience as a custom home designer and builder to provide practical advice on how to understand what you are building before it is built. This valuable guide demonstrates how to eliminate cost overruns, construction delays, and design flaws by integrating SketchUp modeling into your workflow. Emphasizing real-world practicality, this book covers all of the essential components of modeling a 3D construction project, from SketchUp fundamentals and object basics to importing construction drawings and increasing project efficiency with extensions and plugins. All phases of construction are clearly explained, including foundations, walls and floor systems, roof and mechanical systems, and exterior and interior finishes. Supplies a constructability process for efficient and cost-effective build projects Offers step-by-step guidance for creating construction documents, renderings, animations, virtual reality tours, and more Integrates SketchUp into all stages of the construction process Provides access to resources such as web tutorials, blogs, and the online SketchUp community Demonstrates how to generate construction documents with accompanying Layout software SketchUp for Builders: A Comprehensive Guide for Creating 3D Building Models Using SketchUp in an indispensable source of information for contractors and builders, architects, interior designers, landscape architects, construction professionals, and anyone seeking to create 3D models of the design and construction process.
CNN- and UAV-Based Automatic 3D Modeling Methods for Building Exterior Inspection
Building maintenance plays an increasingly important role as buildings age. During maintenance, it is necessary to analyze building defects and record their locations when performing exterior inspections. Hence, this study proposes an automatic three-dimensional (3D) modeling method based on image analysis using unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) flights and convolutional neural networks. A geographic information system is used to acquire geographic coordinate points (GCPs) for the geometry of the building, and a UAV is flown to collect the GCPs and images, which provide location information on the building elements and defects. Comparisons revealed that the generated 3D models were similar to the actual buildings. Next, the recorded locations of the building defects and the actual locations were examined, and the results confirmed that the defects were generated correctly. Our findings indicated that the proposed method can improve building maintenance. However, it has several limitations, which provide directions for future research.
Construction and Recording Method of a Three-Dimensional Model to Automatically Manage Thermal Abnormalities in Building Exteriors
This study proposes an automated three-dimensional (3D)-modeling method that combines convolutional neural networks (CNNs) with unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology for the efficient management of thermal anomalies in building exteriors. Conventional 3D-modeling methods for thermal imaging management either require the processing of large volumes of data due to the use of thermal distribution information from entire image regions or involve increased processing time when architectural drawings are unavailable. In this study, RGB and infrared (IR) thermal images collected via UAVs were used to automatically detect windows and thermal anomalies using a CNN-based object detection model (YOLOv5). Subsequently, Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)-based coordinate data and image metadata were used to convert the resolution coordinates into actual spatial coordinates, which were then vectorized to automatically generate a 3D model. The resulting 3D model demonstrated high similarity to the actual building, accurately representing the locations of thermal anomalies. This method enabled faster, more objective, and more cost-effective maintenance compared to conventional methods, making it especially beneficial for efficiently managing difficult-to-access high-rise buildings.
Architectural design with SketchUp : 3D modeling, extensions, BIM, rendering, making, and scripting
The one-stop guide to SketchUp for architects, designers, and builders. SketchUp is the tool of choice for architects, interior designers, and construction professionals. Though the basics are simple to understand, getting the most out of it requires deeper instruction and guidance.
Office Green Building Modeling Based on EDGE and SketchUp Applications
The importance of the concept of sustainable development and its application in office green buildings, since in the design process, since the modeling of 3D buildings with decisions on design elements applied in the finished building the office building as a one of commercial building type which require a slightly approach to productivity. The purpose of the study is to find out what factors determine office green buildings by using the EDGE and Sketch Up applications. EDGE is a green building simulation and SketchUp is 3D building modelling tool. This research is expected to strengthen the quality of the learning process in the implementation of an efficient design of energy use with the concept of orientation for the realization of green buildings in design. This research uses mix methods, which use of quantitative methods for simulation on SketchUp dan EDGE application, and use of qualitative methods for its advanced stage in an analysis that explains narratively and descriptively. Building modelling factors for SketchUp application are building dimensions, orientations, layout and openings. Design factors for EDGE application are the efficiency of water, electricity and Embodied Energy (EE) use in materials. EDGE application simulations show active and passive building design that high impact intervention on this building are passive cooling and ventilation design, daylighting, lighting control, low energy lighting, high efficiency chillers such as ground source heat pumps and solar PVs on roof which could generate significant energy.
