Investigating the effect of vodcast to enhance the skills of the Canadian smocking and complex problem solving

The present study aimed to determine the effect of vodcast utilization in the enhancement the skills of Canadian smocking and its role in complex problem solving. The sample included (120) learners who were in their fourth academic level in the department of home economics. They were randomly divided into experimental and control group, with 60 learners in each group. A product assessment card and 7 Micro-DYN test battery tasks were used as main study instruments. Results proved showed that performance of students who learned through video lectures of handmade embroidery or vodcasts was better than the performance of colleagues in the control group with regard to the development of Canadian smocking skills and complex problem solving and mainly knowledge acquisition and application. The results provide significant proof of the vodcast advantages in educational technology studies and development.

Foldout Drawing: A Projective Drawing for Fabric Forming

Foldout Drawing argues for the agency of representation as a form of mediation between materials and design. The project uses full-scale drawings to design fabrication and form simultaneously. It demonstrates that a hybrid projective drawing, operating between notational and geometrical logics, can integrate conceptualization, visualization, and fabrication.

Smocking club working on bonnets and layette items
1991
Last month's workshop will be continued this month so participants can learn how to make bonnets. They will be selling the bonnets in March to raise money for the materials needed to make the premature baby and infant outfits. The outfits are contributed to area hospital to be given to families of deceased infants in order to assist them in their time of grief. Last month Helen Kampe of Pasadena, a longtime member of the club conducted the bonnet- making workshop which included information on materials, patterns, construction and embellishment. She is an experienced workshop leader and proficient bonnet maker and was a storehouse of information gleaned from years of heirloom sewing and smocking activities. This month an instructor from Creative Needle Magic will share some sewing techniques. The Black-eyed [Susan Smocking] meetings are on the first Thursday of each month and are open to anyone interested in smocking and heirloom sewing. The evening begins with a short business meeting. This is followed by a workshop of about 1 1/2 hours that will address some needlework technique.
