The Patient Will See You Now
2015
A trip to the doctor is almost a guarantee of misery. You'll make an appointment months in advance. You'll probably wait for several hours until you hear \"the doctor will see you now\"but only for fifteen minutes! Then you'll wait even longer for lab tests, the results of which you'll likely never see, unless they indicate further (and more invasive) tests, most of which will probably prove unnecessary (much like physicals themselves). And your bill will be astronomical. In The Patient Will See You Now, Eric Topol, one of the nation's top physicians, shows why medicine does not have to be that way. Instead, you could use your smartphone to get rapid test results from one drop of blood, monitor your vital signs both day and night, and use an artificially intelligent algorithm to receive a diagnosis without having to see a doctor, all at a small fraction of the cost imposed by our modern healthcare system. The change is powered by what Topol calls medicine's \"Gutenberg moment.\" Much as the printing press took learning out of the hands of a priestly class, the mobile internet is doing the same for medicine, giving us unprecedented control over our healthcare. With smartphones in hand, we are no longer beholden to an impersonal and paternalistic system in which \"doctor knows best.\" Medicine has been digitized, Topol argues; now it will be democratized. Computers will replace physicians for many diagnostic tasks, citizen science will give rise to citizen medicine, and enormous data sets will give us new means to attack conditions that have long been incurable. Massive, open, online medicine, where diagnostics are done by Facebook-like comparisons of medical profiles, will enable real-time, real-world research on massive populations. There's no doubt the path forward will be complicated: the medical establishment will resist these changes, and
digitized medicine inevitably raises serious issues surrounding privacy. Nevertheless, the resultbetter, cheaper, and more human health carewill be worth it. Provocative and engrossing, The Patient Will See You Now is essential reading for anyone who thinks they deserve better health care. That is, for all of us.

PLAYFUL AND SOCIAL INTERACTION IN PHYSICAL GAME: A QUANTITATIVE AND QUALITATIVE STUDY OF REAL-LIFE ESCAPE ROOM
2022
This study investigated the player experience, playful design factors, and player behaviors of real-life escape room games. A questionnaire survey, group interviews, and behavioral observation were conducted to gather players’ demographic information, game experience, social presence, game behaviors, and social interactions while playing a reallife escape room game. Results indicate that a player’s background and the theme of the escape room affect game performance and game experience. The playful design factors are sorted into five categories: story, clue, puzzle, mechanism, and interior design. The player behaviors include individual and team behaviors: searching, thinking, monitoring, physical activity, communication, information sharing, decision making, and cooperation.

The patient will see you now : the future of medicine is in your hands
\"In The Patient Will See You Now, Eric Topol, one of the nation's top physicians, examines what he calls medicine's \"Gutenberg moment.\" Much as the printing press liberated knowledge from the control of an elite class, new technology--from the smartphone to machine learning--is poised to democratize medicine. In this new era, patients will control their data and be emancipated from a paternalistic medical regime in which \"the doctor knows best.\" Mobile phones, apps, and attachments will literally put the lab and the ICU in our pockets. Computers will replace physicians for many diagnostic tasks, and enormous data sets will give us new means to attack conditions that have long been incurable. In spite of these benefits, the path forward will be complicated: some in the medical establishment will resist these changes, and digitized medicine will raise serious issues surrounding privacy. Nevertheless, the result--better, cheaper, and more humane health care for all--will be worth it. The Patient Will See You Now is essential reading for anyone who thinks they deserve better health care. That is, for all of us.\"-- Provided by publisher.

2024
PurposeTikTok, a social media application (app), was originally positioned as a short music video community suitable for young users, and the app is user-generated content (UGC) short video of vertical music. Users can make their own creative videos. Following the rhythm of the music, users can shoot various video content, personal talents, life records, performances, dances, plot interpretations, etc. However, what are the profiles and preferences of TikTok users, whereby the social media app is mainly developed by UGC? What is the impact of TikTok on the development of social media? In addition, what is UGC's social media model for user interactions in social networks? The purpose of this paper is to address and study these proposed issues.Design/methodology/approachAll questionnaire items are designed as nominal and ordinal scales (not Likert scale). The obtained data from questionnaires are put into the relational database (N = 2,011). This empirical study takes Taiwan TikTok users as the research object, implements data mining analytics to generate user profiles through clustering analysis and further uses association rules’ analysis to analyze social media apps in social network interaction and social apps’ development by proposing two patterns and several meaningful rules.FindingsThis study finds that social media apps is a valuable practical research topic on online social media development. In addition, besides the TikTok, the authors eagerly await subsequent research to provide more valuable findings of social media apps in both theory and practice.Originality/valueThis study presents the research evidences that social media apps such as TikTok will be able to transcend the current development pattern of social media and make good use of the media and technology innovation of apps in social development and social informatics.

Social networks and popular understanding of science and health : sharing disparities
Utilization of social media for teaching people about science and health in the 21st century may seem like an obvious strategy. However, systematic reliance on social networks to spread information may be a recipe for inequity. An increasing body of research suggests that some people are much less likely than others to share information in a peer-to-peer environment. This book explores why these information-sharing patterns persist, why they matter to society, and what, if anything, can be done to address these tendencies.-- Source other than Library of Congress
Human centricity and technology advances research in social sciences: A literature insight on artificial intelligence
2023
Evolving technology and human-machine interaction are two major stances that question human centricity as a core dimension for the future placement of human variables and social perspectives inside intelligent systems. The present paper explores present challenges and an up to date research synthesis concerning social sciences dimensions, theories, concepts and implementation with regard to the study of human centred artificial intelligence. The main scope consists of drawing several red lines for future research and theoretical social insights on artificial intelligence at work. Following a scholarly literature insight and several reference works, the study explores major topics of interest analysed so far and proposes new directions for the evaluation of human variables and machine learning at work in an organizational setting. Results showed there is a vital need for expanding research from human centricity point of view on the present matter, where studies are still scarce and heterogenous. Moreover, concept clarification and theoretical explanations are yet to be sufficient in explaining people interactions and management of artificial intelligence at the workplace. In conclusion human empowerment at work through ethical and person oriented intelligent systems in a given organizational context can ensure a fair and efficient development of people’s skills, professional objectives or level of performance while promoting human values, ethical principles and preserving the well-being. The paper presents also several practical implications of social sciences domain on artificial intelligence exploration and a few future directions for research.

2021
There are many independent studies on educational games. In addition to these studies, the number of studies is increasing day by day. For this reason, instead of reaching and examining the studies one by one, it is necessary to use the accumulated knowledge effectively, which examines all the studies that can be reached together. In this study, the studies on educational games in Turkey between 2014 and 2019 were examined, the distribution of the studies by years, the journals in which they were published and their numbers, the research method, sample, subject area and the findings obtained from the studies were examined and the orientations of the researchers on digital games were determined.
