A veil of spears
Since the Night of Endless Swords, a bloody battle the Kings of Sharakhai narrowly won, the kings have been hounding the rebels known as the Moonless Host. Many have been forced to flee the city, including Çeda, who discovers that the King of Sloth is raising his army to challenge the other kings' rule. When Çeda finds the remaining members of the Moonless Host, now known as the thirteenth tribe, she sees a tenuous existence. Çeda hatches a plan to return to Sharakhai and free the asirim, the kings' powerful, immortal slaves. The kings, however, have sent their greatest tactician, the King of Swords, to bring Çeda to justice for her crimes. But the once-unified front of the kings is crumbling. The surviving kings vie quietly against one another, maneuvering for control over Sharakhai. Çeda hopes to use that to her advantage, but whom to trust? Any of them might betray her. As Çeda works to lift the shackles from the asirim and save the thirteenth tribe, the kings of Sharakhai, the scheming queen of Qaimir, the ruthless blood mage, Hamzakiir, and King of Swords all prepare for a grand clash that may decide the fate of all.

Rent Flesh and the Social Fabric: Poetics of the Wound in Puerto Rico's Turbulent 1950s
This article examines the representations of wounds in political and literary texts from the early 1950s, when Puerto Rico participated in the Korean War. Beginning with a number of Governor Luis Munoz Marin's speeches that present a triumphalist narrative of soldiers' wounds, the work then pivots to short stories by Jose Luis Gonzalez and Emilio Diaz Valcarcel that lay bare the colonial dynamics of injured flesh. Finally, the article explores a collection of poems regarding the Nationalist uprising of 1950 written by Francisco Matos Paoli, who elaborates a mystic bodily sacrifice with which to found a divine patria. These clashing portrayals of wounds entail diverse subjectivities, languages of sacrifice, and futures for the island, especially with respect to its relationship with the United States. As such, they served as a significant discursive nucleus of Puerto Rico's political and cultural debates in the early years of the Cold War. War, Identity and the Liberal State
This book critically examines the significance of gender, race and sexuality to wars waged by liberal states. Drawing on original field-research with British soldiers, it offers insights into how their everyday experiences are shaped by, and shape, a politics of gender, race and sexuality that not only underpins power relations in the military, but the geopolitics of wars waged by liberal states. Linking the politics of daily life to the international is an intervention into international relations (IR) and security studies because instead of overlooking the politics of the everyday, this book insists that it is vital to explore how geopolitical events and practices are co-constituted, reinforced and contested by it. By utilising insights from Michel Foucault, the book explores how shared and collectively mediated knowledge on gender, race and sexuality facilitates certain claims about the nature of governing in liberal states and about why and how such states wage war against ‘illiberal’ ones in pursuit of global peace and security. The book also develops post-structural work in international relations by urging scholars interested in the linguistic construction of geopolitics to consider the ways in which bodies, objects and architectures also reinforce particular ideas about war, identity and statehood.
