PurposeAutomatic segmentation of the retinal vasculature is a first step in computer-assisted diagnosis and treatment planning. The extraction of retinal vessels in pediatric retinal images is challenging because of comparatively wide arterioles with a light streak running longitudinally along the vessel’s center, the central vessel reflex. A new method for automatic segmentation was developed and tested.Method A supervised method for retinal vessel segmentation in the images of multi-ethnic school children was developed based on ensemble classifier of bootstrapped decision trees. A collection of dual Gaussian, second derivative of Gaussian and Gabor filters, along with the generalized multiscale line strength measure and morphological transformation is used to generate the feature vector. The feature vector encodes information to handle the normal vessels as well as the vessels with the central reflex. The methodology is evaluated on CHASE_DB1, a relatively new public retinal image database of multi-ethnic school children, which is a subset of retinal images from the Child Heart and Health Study in England (CHASE) dataset. Results The segmented retinal images from the CHASE_DB1 database produced best case accuracy, sensitivity and specificity of 0.96, 0.74 and 0.98, respectively, and worst case measures of 0.94, 0.67 and 0.98, respectively. Conclusion A new retinal blood vessel segmentation algorithm was developed and tested with a shared database. The observed accuracy, speed, robustness and simplicity suggest that the algorithm may be a suitable tool for automated retinal image analysis in large population-based studies.

In this study, a kind of strapped resonator is proposed to deal with high power wireless power transfer (WPT) in microwave regimes. In many specific applications, such as high power microwave wireless power transfer system (WPT), a coil resonator is not suitable due to the frequency limitations. The high cost of the high-permittivity dielectric resonators also limits their application. As a high Q resonator, the strapped resonator is often used in the anode structure of a magnetron. The field distribution of π and π + 1 modes allow the system to operate in dual-frequency mode. Numerical simulation and experimental validation show that with a certain distance, the system provides power transfer efficiency of more than 80% and 70% at 630 MHz and 970 MHz, respectively. Compared to the system based on dielectric resonators, the proposed system has higher power capacity. The leakage and radiation loss of the system is also discussed using numerical methods.

Transfer Alignment for Space Vehicles Launched from a Moving Base
2005
Alignment of the inertial measurement unit (IMU) is a prerequisite for any space vehicle with self-contained navigation and guidance for any mission-critical application. Normally, inertial measurement unit is aligned through gyro-compassing using the stored data for heading. In case of launch from a moving base, it is essential to align the inertial measurement unit in the vehicle (slave unit) with that mounted on the moving platform (master unit). The master inertial navigation system is more accurate, stable, and calibrated wrt the slave unit. An error propagation system involving the misalignment between the master and the slave has been formulated involving the three misalignment angles, three velocity errors, and three positional errors. The manoeuvre of the moving base excites the sensors of both the master and the slave inertial navigation systems for the generation of data to be used in aligning the slave inertial measurement unit of the inertial navigation system (strapdown mode). The entire duration of manoeuvre has to be reduced to a minimum with minimum effort of manoeuvre. This involves the deployment of an adaptive estimator and a linear quadratic Gaussian regulator for alignment of the strapdown slave inertial navigation system.

Football: It's looking grim for hard-up Vale ; WYCOMBE 3 PORT VALE 1
2002
[CASH-STRAPPED Vale] equalised on 49 minutes when Ian Armstrong's shot looped off defender Keith Ryan's boot and into the back of the net. Vale then pressed the self-destruct button when Phil Charnock foolishly handballed in the area and substitute Sean Devine lapped in the resultant penalty.
