The world of Anna Sui
Anna Sui is one of New York's most beloved and accomplished fashion designers, known for creating contemporary original clothing inspired by spectacular amounts of research into vintage styles and cultural arcana. She is especially famous for her textile prints. Sui joined New York's intensely creative cultural underground in the 1970s, forging important relationships in the worlds of fashion, photography, art, music, and design. \"The World of Anna Sui\" looks at Sui's eclectic career as a designer and artist, both through her clothing and studio. Through interviews with fashion journalist Tim Blanks, the book explores Sui's lifelong engagement with fashion archetypes--the rocker, the schoolgirl, the punk, the goth, the bohemian--and reveals their inspiration and influence. Complete with detailed photographs of garments, sketches, moodboards, runway shots, and cultural ephemera, \"The World of Anna Sui\" is an inside look at this iconic New York designer with a worldwide cult following.
How Anna Sui Became the Gen Z Fashion Whisperer
At her Garment District headquarters, seasonal fabrics and mood boards line the walls, giving a peek into her inspirations. including retro 1950s to 1970s band posters, photographs of Virginia Woolf's book covers and Clarice Cliff's ceramics. 40-something-year-old brand peers Jacobs, and Michael Kors, her business, which sells everything from a $20 Ring Rouge to $1,000 ready-to-wear pieces, is thriving globally and domestically. Beauty helps power the brand, as seen from the popularity of the Anna Sui Sundae Pretty Pink fragrance, which won \"Packaging of the Year\" at the 2024 Fragrance Foundation Awards. Sui's career was highlighted and brought to a wider audience via the exhibition \"The World of Anna Sui,\" which was on display at London's Fashion and Textile Museum in 2017; at Roppongi Hills in Tokyo in 2018, and at New York's Museum of Arts and Design in 2020 Prior to the exhibitions, Sui said she hadn't looked at her career \"in any other way than season after season.\" [...]when the Y2K moment was making a comeback in 2020, we embraced brands that were authentic to that era, which is ultimately how we brought Anna into the Ssense world,\" said Brigitte Chartrand, whose title is vice president of womenswear buying and everything else Since 2021, Sui has worked closely with Ssense each season to offer new recreations from the past, such as white baby-doll dresses for the retailer's exclusive summer Bridal 2.0 collection.

Anna Sui Celebrates Exhibition
Friends, relatives, designers and admirers crowded the Museum of Arts and Design for Tuesday night's party celebrating \"The World of Anna Sui.\" Zandra Rhodes made a whistlestop trip to New York for the party, since Sui's first exhibition was first staged two years ago at the Fashion and Textile Museum in London, which she founded. Rhodes' swift return to the U.K. was due partially to the opening of her own exhibition \"Zandra Rhodes: Fifty Years of Fabulous\" later this month and the final photo session for her upcoming London Fashion Week show.

New York Fashion Week: Beachy, sunny and spare
Costa loves to toy with cubist and geometric themes, and for spring he took it to the nth degree with wide-set, bold shoulders; ballooning coats and dresses; delicate pleats; and jutting folds that made the models look as if they were wearing paper-thin origami creations.

In 1980, Anna Sui launched her eponymous fashion line based out of her Manhattan apartment.
