Chapter 7 - Ship Parts: Group 2
This is the second group of ship parts that we are going to consider. In this part, we shall consider the parts of a ship which can be examined by a surveyor when the ship is afloat. Here, we shall see how to carry out the inspection of structural members such as frames, beams, transverse bulkheads, pillars, longitudinal bulkheads, cofferdams, shell plating, tanktops, cargo holds, and cargo holds outfit. These are constituents of the ship’s envelope that resist both longitudinal and transverse stresses, both in the loaded and in the light condition.
