MHealth and perceived quality of care delivery: a conceptual model and validation
Background The objective of this research is to examine, conceptualize, and empirically validate a model of mobile health (mHealth) impacts on physicians’ perceived quality of care delivery (PQoC). Methods Observational quasi-experimental one group posttest-only design was implemented through the empirical testing of the conceptual model with nine hypotheses related to the association of task and technology characteristics, self-efficacy, m-health utilization, task-technology fit (TTF), and their relationships with PQoC. Primary data was collected over a four-month period from acute care physicians in The Ottawa Hospital, Ontario, Canada. The self-reported data was collected by employing a survey and distributed through the internal hospital channels to physicians who adopted iPads for their daily activities. Results Physicians’ PQoC was found to be positively affected by the level of mHealth utilization and TTF, while the magnitude of the TTF direct effect was two times stronger than utilization. Additionally, self-efficacy has the highest direct and total effect on mHealth utilization; in the formation of TTF, technological characteristics dominate followed by task characteristics. Conclusion To date, the impact of utilized mHealth on PQoC has neither been richly theorized nor explored in depth. We address this gap in existing literature. Realizing how an organization can improve TTF will lead to better PQoC.
The Development and Validation of an Instrument to Collaborative Teaching Assessment under the Impact of COVID-19 through the SECI Model
Information and communications technology (ICT) has bridged the gap between students and universities during the COVID-19 pandemic. As COVID-19 brings pandemic pedagogy to transnational higher education (TNHE), the emergent response of Chinese universities to this disruption to education has been to update practices to tackle the pedagogical and contextual differences in transnational education. However, few studies have examined the impact of the pandemic on TNHE through the lens of the socialization, externalization, combination and internalization (SECI) model and investigated the extent to which teaching faculty can co-construct knowledge in collaborative teaching with the assistance of ICT. This study uses the theoretical framework of the SECI model to explore whether collaborative teaching was effective in TNHE during COVID-19. A quantitative questionnaire is conducted to examine the joint knowledge production by adding information technology utilization to the four knowledge-creation and knowledge-conversion processes. Finally, the study explores a SECI knowledge-creation model with technology integration for discussing collaborative teaching quality during COVID-19. The results imply that collaborative teaching management can be linked to the multidimensions of knowledge generation and transfer. It also recommends that pedagogical knowledge and technological expertise can enhance instructional design and teaching practices from the knowledge perspective and achieve sustainable development in THNE.
Impact of Radio Frequency Identification Technology on Environmental Sustainability
This study is the first empirical investigation of the impact of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology utilization on a manufacturing organization's ability to implement environmental sustainability practices and the organization's level of environmental performance. The purpose of the study is to investigate the relationships among RFID technology utilization, environmental sustainability practices, and environmental performance. A structural model depicting the impact (direct and indirect through green supply chain management practices) on environmental performance is theorized. The efficacy of the model is assessed using a Partial-Least-Squares structural equation modeling methodology based on data from a sample of manufacturing managers. The results suggest that RFID technology utilization is positively associated with green supply chain management practices and environmental performance. This study contributes to the understanding of the impact of a specific technology, RFID, on environmental sustainability. RFID technology utilization is established as a viable component of a manufacturing organization's environmental sustainability strategy.
Mapping research trends in physical education pedagogies: a bibliometric analysis using scopus database
This study aims to provide a comprehensive and systematic review of research trends in applying pedagogical models in physical education (PE) pedagogy. Furthermore, there are ongoing challenges facing teaching and learning in PE to deliver effective learning and achieve current learning objectives. This study used a bibliometric analysis approach by examining publication growth patterns, distribution of publication growth, distribution of authors, countries, affiliations, and network analysis based on the appearance of keywords. A search for articles in the Scopus database with specific keywords related to PE pedagogy yielded 419 relevant articles analyzed using CSV and VOSViewer applications. The results revealed a positive trend of increasing the number of published articles starting in 2018 and peaking in 2022. Keith Davids is a famous and influential author with the most publications and the highest citations. His article titled Algorithmic Skin: Health-tracking Technologies, Personal Analytics and the Biopedagogies of Digitized Health and Physical Education, written by Ben Williamson, was the most popular article with 123 citations. China has the most productive authors, and the United Kingdom is the country of origin for the most popular authors with the highest citation rates. The current and emerging trends demonstrate the integration of innovative teaching practices, alternative pedagogical approaches, and the promotion of holistic student development to cope with the development of PE. At the same time, the co-word analysis presents further research streams that include technology utilization and integrative approaches to transformative PE. In conclusion, this study has practical and theoretical implications in the research and practice of physical education pedagogies to identify integration and strategies and PE pedagogies. Determine the potential value of the technology that an organization has, for example, the university, is an issue that is not easy to answer. The only way to look to the future, since there is no data, is to have a very good theory or model. The application of maturity models creates useful benefits. Its application covers a diversity of problem areas related to the development, use and impact of information technology. The human-computer interaction is part of a process of creating technology. Generating a model of intelligent maturity can be seen as an evolutionary approach for a traditional university to progress to several levels of maturity of a smart university.
Blockchain Technology for Supply Chains operating in emerging markets: an empirical examination of technology-organization-environment (TOE) framework
Organizations adopt blockchain technologies to provide solutions that deliver transparency, traceability, trust, and security to their stakeholders. In a novel contribution to the literature, this study adopts the technology-organization-environment (TOE) framework to examine the technological, organizational, and environmental dimensions for adopting blockchain technology in supply chains. This represents a departure from prior studies which have adopted the technology acceptance model (TAM), technology readiness index (TRI), theory of planned behavior (TPB), united theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) models. Data was collected through a survey of 525 supply chain management professionals in India. The research model was tested using structural equation modeling. The results show that all the eleven TOE constructs, including relative advantage, trust, compatibility, security, firm’s IT resources, higher authority support, firm size, monetary resources, rivalry pressure, business partner pressure, and regulatory pressure, had a significant influence on the decision of blockchain technology adoption in Indian supply chains. The findings of this study reveal that the role of blockchain technology adoption in supply chains may significantly improve firm performance improving transparency, trust and security for stakeholders within the supply chain. Further, this research framework contributes to the theoretical advancement of the existing body of knowledge in blockchain technology adoption studies.
The Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology: A New Approach in Technology Acceptance
Recently, the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology has taken place as one of the most developed and intensive models to test technology adoption and acceptance. This research article reviews this model by presenting a description of its development and structure. Additionally, this article compares it with other former theories and models in this field. It studies the evolution stages of these theories and classifies them depending on their development method and the scientific field which they were developed in. Moreover, the model's determinants were classified depending on their influence on technology adoption. This model has been reported as robust and trusted for application on different technologies and viable after doing any modification operation over it. It also has the minimum amount of complexity according to its limited number of constructs and moderating variables that make it more applicable and understandable to study the acceptance behavior to any new technology.
The Needs–Affordances–Features Perspective for the Use of Social Media
The paper develops a needs–affordances–features (NAF) perspective on social media use which posits that individuals’ psychological needs motivate their use of social media applications to the extent to which these applications provide affordances that satisfy these needs. Our theoretical development builds upon two psychological theories, namely self-determination and psychological ownership, to identify five psychological needs (needs for autonomy, relatedness, competence, having a place, and self-identity), that we posit are particularly pertinent to social media use. According to NAF, these psychological needs will motivate use of those social media applications that provide salient affordances to fulfill these needs. We identify such affordances through a comprehensive review of the literature and of social media applications and put forth propositions that map the affordances to the psychological needs that they fulfill. Our theory development generates important implications. First, it has implications for social media research in that it provides an overarching comprehensive framework for the affordances of social media as a whole and the related psychological needs that motivate their use. Future studies can leverage NAF to identify psychological needs motivating the use of specific social media sites based on the affordances the sites provide, and design science research can leverage NAF in the design and bundling of specific social media features to engage users. Second, it has implications for technology acceptance research in that NAF can enrich existing models by opening up the mechanisms through which psychological needs influence user perceptions of social media and their use patterns and behaviors. Finally, NAF provides a new lens and common vocabulary for future studies, which we hope can stimulate cumulative research endeavors to develop a comprehensive framework of information systems affordances in general and the psychological needs that information systems satisfy.
When predictors of outcomes are necessary: guidelines for the combined use of PLS-SEM and NCA
PurposeThis research introduces the combined use of partial least squares–structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) and necessary condition analysis (NCA) that enables researchers to explore and validate hypotheses following a sufficiency logic, as well as hypotheses drawing on a necessity logic. The authors’ objective is to encourage the practice of combining PLS-SEM and NCA as complementary views of causality and data analysis.Design/methodology/approachThe authors present guidelines describing how to combine PLS-SEM and NCA. These relate to the specification of the research objective and the theoretical background, the preparation and evaluation of the data set, running the analyses, the evaluation of measurements, the evaluation of the (structural) model and relationships and the interpretation of findings. In addition, the authors present an empirical illustration in the field of technology acceptance.FindingsThe use of PLS-SEM and NCA enables researchers to identify the must-have factors required for an outcome in accordance with the necessity logic. At the same time, this approach shows the should-have factors following the additive sufficiency logic. The combination of both logics enables researchers to support their theoretical considerations and offers new avenues to test theoretical alternatives for established models.Originality/valueThe authors provide insights into the logic, assessment, challenges and benefits of NCA for researchers familiar with PLS-SEM. This novel approach enables researchers to substantiate and improve their theories and helps practitioners disclose the must-have and should-have factors relevant to their decision-making.
