An armchair traveller's history of Istanbul: city of forgetting and remembering
The great crossroads, Istanbul has absorbed several millennia of different influences; it is both modern and ancient, fluid and constant. Standing at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, Istanbul is a tapestry of the different cultures and ideas that have shaped it over time. It has seen merchants, travelers, different religions, and politics all stamp their mark. Richard Tillinghast has watched the city evolve and he beautifully evokes its many distinct neighborhoods. Richard Tillinghast is the author of Finding Ireland: A Poet's Explorations of Irish Literature and Culture (2009).
A Guide to Biblical Sites in Greece and Turkey
Nearly two-thirds of the New Testament-including all of the letters of Paul, most of the book of Acts, and the book of Revelation-is set outside of Israel, in either Turkey or Greece. Although biblically-oriented tours of the areas that were once ancient Greece and Asia Minor have become increasingly popular, up until now there has been no definitive guidebook through these important sites. In A Guide to Biblical Sites in Greece and Turkey, two well-known, well-traveled biblical scholars offer a fascinating historical and archaeological guide to these sites. The authors reveal countless new insights into the biblical text while reliably guiding the traveler through every significant location mentioned in the Bible. The book completely traces the journeys of the Apostle Paul across Turkey (ancient Asia Minor), Greece, Cyprus, and the islands of the Mediterranean. A description of the location and history of each site is given, followed by an intriguing discussion of its biblical significance. Clearly written and in non-technical language, the work links the latest in biblical research with recent archaeological findings. A visit to the site is described, complete with easy-to-follow walking directions, indicating the major items of archaeological interest. Detailed site maps, historical charts, and maps of the regions are integrated into the text, and a glossary of terms is provided. Easy to use and abundantly illustrated, this unique guide will help visitors to Greece, Turkey, and Cyprus appreciate the rich history, significance, and great wonder of the ancient world of the Bible.

Developing a Constructivist Proposal for Primary Teachers to Teach Science Process Skills: \Extended\ Simple Science Experiments (ESSE)
Although science experiments are the basis of teaching science process skills (SPS), it has been observed that a large number of prospective primary teachers (PPTs), by virtue of their background, feel anxious about doing science experiments. To overcome this problem, a proposal was suggested for primary school teachers (PSTs) to teach science and SPS without focusing on \"structure\" of experiments based on Constructivist 5E Model. Some \"extended\" simple science experiment (ESSE) samples were implemented to 39 PPTs according to this proposal. Then, 39 PPTs were allowed to design and to conduct several ESSE. Finally, they assessed their ESSE experiences. They stated that ESSE is not only easy and enjoyable to engage in science but also useful for teaching and learning science concepts and SPS. In this paper, ESSE process is illustrated in \"Sound is a kind of energy\" experiment.
Representations and Othering in Discourse
This volume examines the construction of Turkey's possible European Union accession in French political discourse. In today's France, heated debates regarding Turkey's EU membership are turning into an essential part of European identity formation. Once again, the 'Turkish Other' functions as a mirror for defining not only the 'European Self', but also European values. By providing a genuine and multi-disciplinary approach for studying the Otherness attributed to Turkey, this book contributes to our understanding of the Self/Other nexus in International Relations. Within a Critical Discourse Analysis framework, this study explores the socio-historical basis of the construction of Turkey's Otherness in an attempt to identify the processes through which past memories, representations, images and fantasies regarding Turkey are inserted into the French social imaginary. Focusing on these significations, which are (re)produced and become manifest through language, this book strives to uncover the link between discourse and political action.
