Exhibiting Patriotism
2013,2016
American nationalism, patriotism and citizenship are proudly on display at historical sites across America-but they are also contested and reshaped by visitors and their engagement with those places. In Exhibiting Patriotism, Bergman analyzes exhibits, interpretive materials, and orientation films at major US sites, from Mt. Rushmore and to the USS Arizona Memorial, where controversy has erupted over the stories they tell about the past. She shows how historic narratives are the result of dynamic relationships between institutions and the public, and how these relationships are changing in an era when museums are becoming more visitor-centered, seeing visitors as partners in historical interpretation. Drawing on film theory, memory studies, visual communication, and visitor studies, Bergman offers an important analysis for scholars and professionals in American studies, museum studies, public history, and communication and media studies.

2025
Virtual Visits have been an integral component of the ATLAS Education and Outreach programme since their inception in 2010. Over the years, collaboration members have hosted visits for tens of thousands of visitors located all over the globe. In 2024 alone, there have already been 59 visits through the month of May. Visitors in classrooms, festivals, events or even at home have a unique opportunity to engage with scientists located underground in the ATLAS experimental cavern or in front of the control room to learn about the goals and achievements of the collaboration. As part of the renovation of the ATLAS Visitor Centre at LHC Point 1, a new installation was constructed to facilitate Virtual Visits during the running of LHC. We present the overall programme and the latest installation and discuss recent initiatives to expand our reach, including Open Visits on ZOOM, Facebook, YouTube and TikTok Live.

2024
This study examines sustainability in tourism, with a particular focus on enhancing destination management through comprehensive visitor monitoring. Precise data on visitor volumes constitute an essential prerequisite for the sustainable planning and management of tourism-related services and infrastructure. This research investigates the correlation between destination attendance and the utilization of visitor centers, employing regression analysis and the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test to quantify these relationships. The study specifically addresses the distribution of domestic and international visitors in the city of Prague and their engagement with municipal information centers, enabling the identification of key visitor behavior patterns. The results offer a robust foundation for forecasting future trends in international visitor flows, which is critical for strategic planning and the sustainable development of tourism destinations.

The research of knowledge diffusion network model for Tourism Destination-Public ecological civilization
2024
Visitor education plays a crucial role in the knowledge diffusion process in outdoor recreation and nature-based tourism. It entails sharing information, experiences, and insights with visitors to enhance their understanding and appreciation of the natural environment. Our methodology for investigating the diffusion of ecological civilization knowledge in tourism destinations involves constructing a knowledge diffusion network model. In this model, scenic spots, tourists, and the public are defined as network nodes, with the communication channels between them representing the edges of the network. By constructing a scale-free complex network, the knowledge diffusion mode of scenic spots can be depicted. The layer of resource supply node consists of different scenic spots, forming the core nodes set for knowledge diffusion in the tourism industry. This research aims to further explore the social and economic value of the tourism areas’ ecological civilization knowledge diffusion, as well as analyze the path, quantity, and cost of knowledge diffusion. by analyzing this knowledge diffusion network model, insights into the effectiveness and impact of visitor education in promoting ecological civilization and sustainable practices in tourism destinations can be gained. Overall, this approach provides a theoretical framework for investigating and comprehending the knowledge diffusion process in Tourism Destination-Public ecological civilization, thereby shedding light on the social and economic benefits that can be derived from sustainable tourism practices.

Blended-red lighting partially mitigates the cost of light pollution for arthropods
2025
Light pollution disrupts the natural dark–light rhythmicity of the world and alters the spectral composition of the nocturnal sky, with far-reaching impacts on natural systems. While the costs of light pollution are now documented across scales and taxa, community-level mitigations for arthropods remain unclear. To test two light pollution mitigation strategies, we replaced all 32 streetlights in the largest visitor center in Grand Teton National Park (Wyoming, USA) to allow wireless control over each luminaries’ color and brightness. We captured fewer arthropods, across most Orders, in the blended-red light compared to white (3000 K). Interestingly, we found an effect of light brightness and color, suggesting that, overall, more arthropods were attracted by brighter, and white color hues compared to blended-red. Our findings provide valuable insights into the mitigation of artificial light at night, likely one of the primary drivers of global arthropod declines.

Unique Concrete Formwork for Red Rocks
2022
Gallo discusses the aspects of forming foundational components in the renovation of a historic stage on a mountainside for Red Rocks. Red Rocks Park and Ampitheatre (Red Rocks) is an exceptional venue situated at the transition of the Great Plains and the Rocky Mountains. This location provides an acoustically perfect amphitheater that is carved out of the side of a mountain. Over the years, Red Rocks has been updated multiple times. According to the Red Rocks website, it was first developed in the early 1900s and quickly became one of the most spectacular settings in Colorado. The Red Rocks Visitors Center and Hall of Fame opened in 2003. The famous open-air venue recently kickstarted a renovation of its stage, which has hosted a myriad of legendary musicians.

2024
Despite the growing body of research on the impact of art on emotions and psychology, there is limited exploration of the role of emotional factors in visitor experiences in art spaces. Therefore, this study focuses on the Stimulus-organism-response (SOR) model to investigate the relationship between visual stimuli and tourist satisfaction in art venues. The main objective is to gain a deeper understanding of the mechanisms of the emotions and responses of art tourists and to provide practical strategies and recommendations for planning and managing public art spaces. By obtaining data from 603 valid samples supported by field surveys and sample surveys, this study used structural equation modeling and multiple regression analysis to test the theoretical framework while analyzing the data in depth. The results show that the aesthetic experience mediates visual quality and tourists’ satisfaction, and cultural identity can moderate the relationship between visual quality and aesthetic experience. These findings will help managers better understand the importance of aesthetic experience in tourists’ responses and make a significant theoretical contribution and practical importance to enhancing tourist satisfaction in art tourism destinations.

A Peak Construction Challenge on America's Mountain
Pikes Peak, fondly known as \"America's Mountain,\" is situated on the spine of the Colorado Rockies near Cascade, CO, USA. Known for the awe-inspiring mountain views its summit offers on a clear day, the pinnacle has been revered by generations of explorers, poets, and shamans. For generations, the Ute tribes have called the mountain Tava Kaavi (\"Sun Mountain\") because it is the first peak of the mountains to catch the morning light. In 1806, explorer Zebulon Pike (the mountain's current namesake) declared the peak insurmountable. In 1893, Katherine Lee Bates immortalized the mountain in her song \"America, the Beautiful.\" The U.S. Forest Service had a minimum requirement of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver for the building, and the City of Colorado Springs also wanted Living Building Challenge certification. The new structure went well beyond these aspirations.
