Female Philosophers in Contemporary Taiwan and the Problem of Women in Chinese Thought
This book illuminates the problem of women in Chinese philosophy through the lens of the lives and work of two contemporary Taiwanese female philosophers. It takes two approaches that have been relegated, quite unfairly, to the margins of dominant discourses. The first is concerned with the work of women philosophical theorists who are still overshadowed by their male colleagues, regardless of where they live, their theoretical potential, and the value of their research. The second approach is related to the question of the role of Taiwanese philosophy in maintaining the continuity of the Chinese intellectual tradition in the second half of the twentieth century. The book thus connects these two issues and provides a bridge linking them. Although discrimination against female philosophical theorists, on the one hand, and the failure to recognize the important contribution of Taiwanese philosophy to the development of modern Chinese philosophy, on the other, seem, at first glance, to have little in common, both harbor a problem that has its roots in discourses of exclusion emanating from the political, historical, and social inequalities associated with power structures.

Assessing the Landscape of Taiwan and Korean Studies in Comparison
In Assessing the Landscape of Taiwan and Korean Studies in Comparison, the chapters offer a reflection on the state of the field of Taiwan and Korea Studies. By looking at the two, the chapters in the volume broaden an understanding of the interconnectivity of the region.
Performance Evaluation of LoRa Considering Scenario Conditions
New verticals within the Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm such as smart cities, smart farming, or goods monitoring, among many others, are demanding strong requirements to the Radio Access Network (RAN) in terms of coverage, end-node’s power consumption, and scalability. The technologies employed so far to provide IoT scenarios with connectivity, e.g., wireless sensor network and cellular technologies, are not able to simultaneously cope with these three requirements. Thus, a novel solution known as Low Power - Wide Area Network (LP-WAN) has emerged as a promising alternative to provide with low-cost and low-power-consumption connectivity to end-nodes spread in a wide area. Concretely, the Long-Range Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN) technology is one of the LP-WAN platforms that is receiving greater attention from both the industry and the academia. For that reason, in this work, a comprehensive performance evaluation of LoRaWAN under different environmental conditions is presented. The results are obtained from three real scenarios, namely, urban, suburban, and rural, considering both dynamic and static conditions, hence a discussion about the most proper LoRaWAN physical-layer configuration for each scenario is provided. Besides, a theoretical coverage study is also conducted by the use of a radio planning tool considering topographic maps and a precise propagation model. From the attained results, it can be concluded that it is necessary to evaluate the propagation conditions of the deployment scenario prior to the system implantation in order to reach a compromise between the robustness of the network and the transmission data-rate.
Analysis of SD-WAN Architectures and Techniques for Efficient Traffic Control Under Transmission Constraints—Overview of Solutions
Software-Defined Wide Area Networks (SD-WAN) have emerged as a rapidly evolving technology designed to meet the growing demand for flexible, secure, and scalable network infrastructures. This paper provides a review of SD-WAN techniques, focusing on their principles of operation, mechanisms, and evolution, with particular attention to applications in resource-constrained environments such as mobile, satellite, and radio networks. The analysis highlights key architectural elements, including security mechanisms, monitoring methods and metrics, and management protocols. A classification of both commercial (e.g., Cisco SD-WAN, Fortinet Secure SD-WAN, VMware SD-WAN, Palo Alto Prisma SD-WAN, HPE Aruba EdgeConnect) and research-based solutions is presented. The overview covers overlay protocols such as Overlay Management Protocol (OMP), Dynamic Multipath Optimization (DMPO), App-ID, OpenFlow, and NETCONF, as well as tunneling mechanisms such as IPsec and WireGuard. The discussion further covers control plane architectures (centralized, distributed, and hybrid) and network monitoring methods, including latency, jitter, and packet loss measurement. The growing importance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in optimizing path selection and improving threat detection in SD-WAN environments, especially in resource-constrained networks, is emphasized. Analysis of solutions indicates that SD-WAN improves performance, reduces latency, and lowers operating costs compared to traditional WAN architectures. The paper concludes with guidelines and recommendations for using SD-WAN in resource-constrained environments.
Women’s Role in Local Development: Enhancing Gender Equality in Wan Yai District, Mukdahan Province, Thailand
Purpose: This research was conducted using a qualitative method. The objectives were: 1) to study women’s roles in local development; 2) to analyze the supporting and hindrance factors that affect the roles of women in the local area; and 3) to suggest pathways for the roles of women in local development to reduce gender inequality in Thai society.   Method: The collective data came from in-depth interviews with provincial and district developers. Women's empowerment working groups conducted focus groups in four districts: Wan-Yai, Cha-Note, Bang-Sai Noi, and Pong-Kam Dong-Moo. Furthermore, the researcher focused on the women villagers to analyze the factors that influence women's empowerment in the local area and make recommendations to the local administration's women's development strategic plan.   Results:  Women's role in the Wan Yai district is significant. Women also participate in many aspects of the local community. Regarding politics, some women are interested in applying for local elections, and others work as public health volunteers. In economic terms, many women are essential to generating income and development in the area. Most women in the district are members of the Women's Empowerment Fund, a low-interest source promoting job creation and building careers.   Research Implication: Regarding culture, women's groups participated in local traditions, such as the Twelve Annual Festivals of Isan People and the Christmas Celebration. Strong women's organizations and women's participation at all levels supported women's empowerment. However, the obstructing factors to women's development were competition from locals with similar careers and the emigration of the working-age population and younger generations.   Originality/Value: In summary, the recommendations for the relevant organizations are the network and women's empowerment organizations, NGOs, and educational institutions to integrate abstractly, investigate, and evaluate continually towards the provincial strategic plan.
