Evaluating Nurse–Physician Communication With a Rubric: A Pilot Study
Poor communication is a leading cause of sentinel events. The aims of this pilot study were to determine whether the ISBAR ( I dentification, S ituation, B ackground, A ssessment, and R ecommendation) Interprofessional Communication Rubric (IICR) was a reliable tool among nurses and to examine the communication performance of new graduate nurses in a hospital-based simulation center. The IICR demonstrated reliability among raters in this setting ( r s = .91). The new graduate RNs' communication performance scores were low, warranting continued professional development. The IICR may be used to guide continued education and development for nurse–physician communication. [ J Contin Educ Nurs . 2019;50(4):163–169.]
After of the sadness of deaths came the leap of faith called Fire in the Snow
\"I'm looking forward to working with Alun again,\" says [Christopher Painter]. \"We last worked together in 2006 when I was composer-in-residence with the Thuringen Philharmonie in Germany and it was a very enjoyable experience.\" \"I have long admired the poetry of [Vernon Watkins] and have previously set his Peace in the Welsh Hills for chorus and orchestra,\" says Painter. \"I have based several of my recent works on Watkins' poetry, including The Broken Sea (premiered by the Wind Orchestra of RWCMD), and Buried Light for solo violin and string orchestra, written in memory of my cousin Peter.\"
Retro Report Vernon Watkins dies in America
THE Swansea poet [Vernon Watkins], who worked as a bank clerk for 40 years, has died - like his great friend, Dylan Thomas, in America - the first year of what promised to be the most productive part of his life. Though he was a member of the group who met in Ralph Wishart's second-hand bookshop in Swansea, every Saturday night, Mr Watkins did not have the Bohemian devil-may-care attitude of some of the others and was a gentle character.
Roll over, Lennon and McCartney: Larkin is here NOTEBOOK
[Philip Larkin] came to stay with the couple in their Swansea house one evening in 1964. Also there was the Watkinses' 17-year-old daughter, preparing to go out to a dance. Larkin liked to pretend that he didn't get on with children: \"Very horrible,\" he called them. \"Selfish, noisy, cruel, vulgar little brutes.\" After a bottle of Pelure d'oignon - Watkins's favourite shade of wine, and A E Housman's - this is what Larkin came up with: Don't like your song/ It gets me down./ It's much too long,/ It makes me frown./ Can't think why this God-awful noise/ Makes daughters miss their dates with boys. First, there's the self-willed striver who gets depressed when he doesn't match up to his own standards. Then there's the outwardly focused obsessive who expects perfection from other people and ends up hating and being hated by them when they don't live up to his ideal. And then there are those who fail to live up to standards they think other people expect of them. This last lot are often suicidal and prey to eating disorders.
