Paralympic icon Weir to reveal why he'll never wear GB vest again
A British Athletics spokesperson said: \"British Athletics staff met with [David Weir] last autumn to encourage him to be part of a memorable home world championships in 2017. However, he further met with our Paralympic Head Coach early last week where he reconfirmed that he would not be returning to international competition.\" After crashing in the marathon in Rio, Weir said: \"Sometimes I feel like I've been stabbed in the back.\"
Rangers using Cup heartache as motivation to succeed: Weir
\"There's always a desire to get to cup finals, you can't get enough of them,\" [David Weir] said. \"This club was built on league titles and cup finals. \"We have played Motherwell twice already and the games have been really close,\" Weir said. \"The first one we won but it was really tight and the second one we needed a last-minute goal to win it. \"[Joe Garner] will hopefully be back training within a week or so and then back with us within two or three weeks,\" he said. \"[Lee Wallace] is fit, he trained with the rest of the squad on Saturday and will be available for selection, touch wood, for the weekend.\"
NIKO KRANJCING UP THE GEARS
\"From day one the manager has said he's catching up,\" said Mark Warburton's right-hand man. \"He's a top-level player. You don't play 80 times for Croatia, play in World Cups and European Championships without having a level of ability. \"He's working so hard. He trains hard every day, he does extras every day. He's very conscientious in his work and he's dedicated to what he's doing.
Weir believes Light Blues have mentality to cope y to P with Parkhead pressure
He said: \"The last one was at a neutral venue at Hampden but we've got good memories of that game and the players take great confidence from winning it -- albeit that it was on penalties -- but on the day we played well and I felt we deserved to win.\" \"I think we're looking at both aspects of the game,\" said the 46-year-old, who admitted new signing Philippe Senderos has a chance of making his competitive debut. \"Obviously we are giving Celtic respect as they have talented players both offensively and defensively, there's no doubt about that. We have to counter that and deal with that but ultimately we have to challenge them at the other end as well.
GAMES ACE RAPS RIO'S CASH CUTS
A Pounds 60million bailout has since been promised by organisers but [David Weir], 37, said: \"The Rio government didn't have a lot of respect for the Paralympics.
David Weir: 'Peaking for Paralympics has been more of a challenge'
\"It depends what happens in Rio. It's been hard to get into really good shape for the track this year. Mentally it's been hard to do that many events. I'm definitely going to carry on on the road. I've got two marathons after Rio. I'll have a few days off and then get ready for Chicago and New York. Then I'll carry that on because I feel I'm getting stronger in the marathon.\" \"On the track, when it's a competition like that it's so draining, 12 and a half laps of continuously going in position and it's going to go at a snail's pace and it's all about the last lap. It suits me but it's just the mental strain of making sure you're in the right position, making sure you're behind someone or in the lead for the last lap. \"In London I put a target on my back but I've not done that here. It will be my last Paralympics and I just want to medal. If I come away with a medal I'll be happy. My coach is telling me that I'm quicker and faster than I've ever been, so that gives me a lot of confidence. I don't put pressure on myself by saying I'm going to go and win five.\"
David Weir calls for tougher measures to rid disability sport of drug cheats
[David Weir] has called for the introduction of tougher measures to ensure the sport is clean. \"It's probably the right choice if they've got evidence that most of the athletes are on a doping programme,\" the 37-year-old said. \"It's a bold step by the IPC and definitely the right one if they've got evidence. Every time I get on that track, I never want to suspect that someone's cheating. As an athlete you hope that everyone's clean and racing on a level playing field. Over the last few years I've started to doubt people, which you never want to do. You look at people's performances and think 'really?' and not 'wow'.\"
Paralympian beats record for mile event
Retired athlete Sir Roger Bannister, who ran the first sub-fourminute mile in 1954, was quick to congratulate [David Weir] for his \"huge achievement\".
