NOISE-WEARY RESIDENTS ASK FOR HELP ; COMPLAIN OF `CONSTANT DRONE' FROM DAIRY TRUCKS
2002
The humming sounds from refrigeration trucks are of particular concern to Florence Sullivan, a resident living adjacent to the truck park. At first, she says, the refrigeration trucks were just annoying background sound, but as time progressed, their consistency feels like \"a constant toothache.\" Sullivan is not the only Guida's Dairy neighbor with these concerns. At 6 tonight, Guida safety and security representatives are slated to meet with a group of neighbors to discuss noise and traffic conditions around the company's plant and its truck parking lot, said Al Guida, the company's president and an owner. Guida said his company already has surveyed noise, traffic and security around the plant to make sure neighbors are not living with untenable environmental conditions. Guida representatives have measured noise from refrigeration trucks in the parking lot, and the results do not violate city ordinance requirements, he said. As far as traffic is concerned, he said, the entryway and exit from the lot were engineered carefully to eliminate any potential hazards.

PUBLICATION PROMOTING SCHOOLS PROVOKES ELECTIONS COMPLAINT
2003
The 12-page publication, called the New Britain Educator, included a column by [Lucian Pawlak] and several photographs of him. Most of the issue had stories touting accomplishments of school staff and students and did not mention Pawlak. The Educator also includes a column by Pawlak -- beside those by [Doris Kurtz] and school board President Steven Horowitz -- in which he discusses the city's accomplishments in the schools. In it, he notes the city committed more than $52 million over the past decade on school construction and renovation. Pawlak and Kurtz had planned the publication for months, [Matt Wiggin] said. He said the city asked the elections enforcement commission before publication whether The Educator might violate election laws if published before the election.
