One of the ironies of tributes is that a singular focus on a celebrated scholar's charisma and pioneering role in establishing a field of study can obscure the wider community of people who also mattered. In highlighting the very real accomplishments of the celebrated scholar, tributes can mask even the honoree's own commitment to collaborative work.
