Workshops
2025
The 6th European Advanced Accelerator Concepts Workshop (EAAC) took place from September 17 to 23, 2023, at La Biodola Bay on Elba Island. With 204 participants gathered in person, it was a pleasure to once again experience the energy, creativity, and collaborative spirit that make EAAC such a special event. The mission of the workshop remains both ambitious and vital: to explore new methods of beam acceleration that can achieve gradients beyond those available in today’s facilities. This year’s program reflected the breadth and depth of the field, ranging from laser- and beam-driven plasma wakefield accelerators to high-gradient vacuum structures, advances in beam instrumentation, beam dynamics and simulations, and applications of novel accelerator concepts.A defining feature of EAAC is its format. While presentations are central for reviewing the impressive progress of recent years, the program is intentionally designed with generous space for open discussions. These sessions—often as lively and productive as the talks themselves-allow participants to look ahead, challenge ideas, and spark collaborations that may shape the field in years to come. This balance between formal presentations and dedicated discussion time has proven to be one of the workshop’s greatest strengths.List of Workshop Organizing Committee, Programme, International Advisory Committee and Local Organizing Committee are available in this PDF.

This report describes the post-high school educational and occupational activities for 66 young adults with autism spectrum disorders who had recently exited the secondary school system. Analyses indicated low rates of employment in the community, with the majority of young adults (56%) spending time in sheltered workshops or day activity centers. Young adults with ASD without an intellectual disability were three times more likely to have no daytime activities compared to adults with ASD who had an intellectual disability. Differences in behavioral functioning were observed by employment/day activity group. Our findings suggest that the current service system may be inadequate to accommodate the needs of youths with ASD who do not have intellectual disabilities during the transition to adulthood.

2023
Particle physics today faces the challenge of explaining the mystery of dark matter, the origin of matter over anti-matter in the Universe, the origin of the neutrino masses, the apparent fine-tuning of the electro-weak scale, and many other aspects of fundamental physics. Perhaps the most striking frontier to emerge in the search for answers involves new physics at mass scales comparable to familiar matter, below the GeV-scale, or even radically below, down to sub-eV scales, and with very feeble interaction strength. New theoretical ideas to address dark matter and other fundamental questions predict such feebly interacting particles (FIPs) at these scales, and indeed, existing data provide numerous hints for such possibility. A vibrant experimental program to discover such physics is under way, guided by a systematic theoretical approach firmly grounded on the underlying principles of the Standard Model. This document represents the report of the FIPs 2022 workshop, held at CERN between the 17 and 21 October 2022 and aims to give an overview of these efforts, their motivations, and the decadal goals that animate the community involved in the search for FIPs.

Feebly-interacting particles: FIPs 2020 workshop report
2021
With the establishment and maturation of the experimental programs searching for new physics with sizeable couplings at the LHC, there is an increasing interest in the broader particle and astrophysics community for exploring the physics of light and feebly-interacting particles as a paradigm complementary to a New Physics sector at the TeV scale and beyond. FIPs 2020 has been the first workshop fully dedicated to the physics of feebly-interacting particles and was held virtually from 31 August to 4 September 2020. The workshop has gathered together experts from collider, beam dump, fixed target experiments, as well as from astrophysics, axions/ALPs searches, current/future neutrino experiments, and dark matter direct detection communities to discuss progress in experimental searches and underlying theory models for FIPs physics, and to enhance the cross-fertilisation across different fields. FIPs 2020 has been complemented by the topical workshop “Physics Beyond Colliders meets theory”, held at CERN from 7 June to 9 June 2020. This document presents the summary of the talks presented at the workshops and the outcome of the subsequent discussions held immediately after. It aims to provide a clear picture of this blooming field and proposes a few recommendations for the next round of experimental results.

How to run seminars & workshops : presentation skills for consultants, trainers, teachers, and salespeople
\"How to Run Seminars and Workshops has taught tens of thousands of people how to sell, teach, stand up, and deliver an effective training session on almost any subject in almost any setting. Updates to the Fourth Edition include: - New Chapter: Taking your training online. As podcasts continue to take the place of live deliveries, and companies like Udemy offer shorter, simpler online delivery option, those who deliver seminars and workshops must adjust their approaches to delivery.\"--Provided by publisher.
18 Engaging with young people to improve research, services and workforce development: eye-YPAG and ‘visually’ workshops
2023
Involving children and young people (CYP) in service and research design improves quality and accessibility. Running events in schools to invite CYP to volunteer and explore careers in the NHS may contribute to uptake of training posts and developing the NHS workforce. Here we evaluate two activities with CYP, our Young Person’s Advisory Group for research (eye-YPAG) and our workshop for secondary schools, ‘visually’.We evaluated eye-YPAG in focus groups and online surveys with group members, parents/carers, researchers, facilitators and funders. We conducted thematic analysis and descriptive statistics. To evaluate ‘visually’, we monitored the numbers of workshops and young people applying for volunteering roles. We asked those who started working with us about their experience.eye-YPAG members valued social and creative aspects as well as learning about research and developing skills and confidence. Researchers reported that CYP gave novel suggestions, modifying research plans, and that their different perspective was helpful in making research more relevant for children and families.Over 6 months, we held 15 ‘visually’ workshops in secondary schools. Ninety students applied for volunteering roles, and 20 have completed the Human Resources onboarding process. Young volunteers report that this work has increased their confidence and that they have gained insights into how a hospital works. One is considering training to become an orthoptist. Both eye-YPAG and ‘visually’ are available to all eye researchers and units in the UK and can facilitate outreach activities
