Shipwrecks, strandings, mutiny, getting locked in the lavatory...you couldn't make them up. Counted among the contributors are no lessthan four former editors of Yachting Monthly, which goes to prove that worse things really do happen at sea! Accompanied by cartoons from the inimitable Mike Peyton, this collection deserves a place at every bunkside.
Effects of Yachting Motivation on Yachting Satisfaction and Re-Yachting Intention
2024
It is clear that yachting tourists are motivated to spend their leisure time at sea. However, few studies have determined the relationship between tourists’ motivation and satisfaction with yachting, and re-yachting intention. Furthermore, the purpose of this study was to examine the relationships among yachting motivation, yachting satisfaction, and re-yachting intention. More specifically, this study sought to examine whether yachting motivation influenced yachting satisfaction, and determine if re-yachting intention was affected by yachting motivation. In order to analyze the data for this study, a total of 240 questionnaires were distributed to yachting tourists at three private yacht club operators, utilizing the convenient sampling method. A total of 219 usable questionnaires were analyzed for this study, while 21 questionnaires were discarded due to incompletion of the survey. Data were analyzed with multiple regression analysis using SPSS version 27.0. The results revealed that entertainment, stress reduction, and family/friends were positively and significantly related to yachting satisfaction. However, socializing and external ostentation did not contribute to yachting satisfaction. Secondly, the results indicated that entertainment, socializing, and stress reduction had a positive and significant effect on re-yachting intention. Conversely, external ostentation and family/friends had no significant influence on re-yachting intention. It is necessary for yacht club business operators to recognize the yachting motivation of the participants. It is also recommended that appropriate marketing strategies are implemented to increase yachting tourism, which would possibly influence yachting satisfaction and re-yachting intention.

Yachting Tourism Consumption Potential and Its Influencing Factors: Considering 12 Coastal Cities in China as Examples
2023
Releasing the consumption potential of yachting tourism is important for marine economic development. The purpose of the study is to evaluate a comprehensive potential index for yachting tourism (based on consumption capacity, expenditure, quality, and environment) in 12 cities in China with high development potential for coastal yachting tourism. Data from 2014, 2017, and 2019 were included in the study. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), entropy methods, and gray correlation analysis are applied in the study. A panel data regression model is used to estimate the factors affecting the consumption potential of yachting tourism. The results show that the consumption potential index of yachting tourism in China’s coastal cities has been continuously increasing, and the consumption potential is closely related to consumption quality and capacity. The consumption potential of yachting tourism is highest in Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou. The overall spatial pattern shows a gradual decrease in consumption potential in the Pan-Pearl River Delta region to the Yangtze River Delta region and the Bohai rim region.

Research on Yachting: A Systematic Review of the Literature
2023
The multidisciplinary nature of research on yachting leads to a need for a synthesis of prior findings. To fill this gap, this article presents a systematic review of the literature. Although the search conducted uses terms such as sailboat and cruising, the study focuses on yachting,
including both ownership or chartering. The review provides first a descriptive view of the fields, journal outlets, authors, and years of publications. Next, the study shows four mainstreams identified: (1) innovation, (2) consumer experience (3) sustainability, and (4) yacht-related events.
Based on the description of prior findings, future research needs are identified.

Factors Influencing the Willingness to Pay in Yachting Tourism in the Context of COVID-19 Regular Prevention and Control: The Case of Dalian, China
2022
This study attempts to construct a framework of factors affecting the yachting tourists’ willingness to pay (WTP) in the context of COVID-19 regular prevention and control in Dalian, China. Relying on the framework of the extended theory of planned behavior (TPB), perceived external institutional and destination attribute factors are introduced to enhance the prediction of WTP. The results of the multivariate ordinal logistic regression model show that significant factors affecting yachting tourists’ WTP are income, education, past consumption experience, attitudes, destination attributes, and perceived behavior control. In addition, different factors affect the WTP of tourists who prefer motor boats and non-motor boats.
