MONITORING MOVEMENT IN THE SMART CITY: OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES OF MEASURING URBAN BUSTLE
2020
One of the promises of the smart city concept is using real-time data to enhance policy making. In practice, such promises can turn out to be either very limited in what is actually possible or quickly trigger dystopian scenarios of tracking and monitoring. Today, many cities around the world already measure forms of urban bustle, i.e. how busy it is during specific periods of time. They do this for all kinds of purposes like optimising mobility flows, attracting tourism, monitoring safety during events or stimulating the local economy, and they employ divergent technologies: from analogue counting, over surveys, to more advanced near real-time tracking using mobile operator data. This fragmentation of approaches to measuring urban bustle creates some challenges for cities related to privacy, vendor lock-in, comparability of data, data quality and accuracy, historical and predictive analysis of data and so on. To tackle these challenges and formulate a standardised approach to measuring urban bustle, the thirteen largest cities in Flanders (Belgium), together with local technology vendors, co-created a “definition manual”; a document outlining indicators and relevant technologies for measuring urban bustle, as well as shared profile descriptions of residents and visitors of the city. This paper outlines the process and presents the results, an agreed-upon framework of standard profiles and indicators, which are useful to academics, public servants and technology companies involved in this topic.

earthquake event is changeable by nature, which has the capacity make devastating operational damage to a structure and collapse in due course which leads the huge loss of life and huge structure property loss. Because of this, much realization has initiated by many researchers for the progress of structural rheostat techniques such as passive controlling and active controlling system which are associated in the systems of Tuned Mass Damper, Fluid Viscous Dampers, Base Isolation inhibiters etc. In this study an experimentation has been carried by in view of G+9 reinforced concrete structure with in the proliferation of quake analysis in SAP-2000. The G+9 RCC structure has been analyzed by means of the connection of fluid viscous dampers situated at numerous patterns in two various systems such as diagonal bracing and combined bracing system by a total of 30 types has been espoused by trial based in various stimulating patterns. The efficiency of that analyzed structural models had better be clearly pragmatic by means of the resultant structural performances, for instance lateral displacement, energy dissipation, storey drift and base response etc. The finest optimum arrangement of fluid viscous dampers had recommended to use for seismic response resistant structure for vibrating control system.

History of Philosophy
2017
Compared with the rapid development of Chinese economy, which is theleading one in the world, modern philosophy and aesthetics in China are in a position thatis subordinate to the West. In contemporary Chinese aesthetics, for instance, there have occurredheated discussions and a craze for aesthetics as well as various rampant Zhuyi in the1950s and 1980s. However, the debate of Zhuyi in the 1950s was described as politicized andof a low level. The bustle of Zhuyi in the 1980s bore witness to all kinds of doctrines and -ismsin Western philosophy and aesthetics that also found their way into China, although Chinesephilosophers and aestheticians remained merely spectators to these processes. A closer lookcan disclose the reasons behind the absence of Zhuyi in Chinese philosophy and reveals theroles played by aesthetics and the humanities as a whole in the earlier bustle of Zhuyi. Thereare subjective and objective reasons for the weakness of Chinese academic power. There existsa severe imbalance between underdeveloped Chinese philosophy and aesthetics and thedeveloped economy. Eliminating the imbalance is essential for China to pursue developmentfurther, but the emergence of a new balance is not possible without the establishment of Zhuyiand schools.

Using Art to Assess Reading Comprehension and Critical Thinking in Adolescents
2012
In the current testing environment, high school reading teachers may often rely on a multiple‐choice assessment as the best practice. This study suggests that a visual arts assessment of reading comprehension can rigorously measure critical thinking. This action research study follows 21 high school juniors through the selection, creation, and presentation of visual arts projects specifically crafted to record and assess the skills of analysis and synthesis of information in literature. Anecdotal data was videotaped and manually documented by the researcher, and the research concluded with a focus group discussion to solicit students' feedback on the process. Project rubric criteria and students' explanations of their decision‐making process proved essential to maintaining rigorous intellectual involvement. Educators delivering differentiated instruction could benefit from this alternative way of assessing comprehension skills and soliciting higher level thinking. Demonstrating comprehension through art, students experience increased engagement with the subject matter and develop essential cognitive skills.

Making improvements Lauderdale Marine Center gets $60 million loan from BankUnited
2013
It makes good business sense for BankUnited, the largest locally based bank in South Florida, to be loaning to a key marine company that is part of a South Florida multibillion-dollar industry, he added. It's \"a key economic engine that helps drive the regional economy,\" according to a BankUnited statement. Lauderdale Marine center officials wouldn't disclose details of the refinancing deal. But the new lower interest rates involves \"very significant savings,\" said owner, Dr. Selvin Passen, a retired pathologist who also owns the Baltimore Marine Center in Maryland. That will free up money to further improve the Lauderdale Marine Center, Passen said. \"We're always upgrading in the yard with the newest technologies,\" he said.
