Softwareintegrierte Lehre der Grounded-Theory-Methodologie
2011
The implementation of our hands-on seminar is based on the understanding of grounded theory methodology (GTM) as a craft that can be taught to a great extent. The successful learning process requires knowing, understanding and practising the procedural steps of this craft. It is also important to open up spaces for the development of reflexive and analytical competences. Having an orientation toward a research project within the teaching-learning process assists in deepening the understanding of GTM and provides a scope for practise and reflection at the same time. It is important for us to retain the student-centred nature of the teaching-learning process to enable active and praxis-oriented student engagement instead of focusing on the transmission of factual knowledge. The structural fit that exists between GTM and ATLAS.ti allows students to experience the software as a support in the analyses of their own data.

More Than Just Coding? Evaluating CAQDAS in a Discourse Analysis of News Texts
Computer assisted qualitative data analysis software (CAQDAS) is frequently described as a tool that can be used for \"qualitative research\" in general, with qualitative analysis treated as a \"catch-all\" homogeneous category. Few studies have detailed its use within specific methods, and even fewer have appraised its value for discourse analysis (DA). While some briefly comment that CAQDAS has technical limitations for discourse analysis, in general, the topic as a whole is given scant attention. Our aim is to investigate whether this limited interest in CAQDAS as a qualitative tool amongst discourse analysts, and in DA as a research method amongst CAQDAS users, is practically based; due to an uncertainty about research methods, including DA; or because of methodological incompatibilities. In order to address these questions, this study is based not only on a review of the literature on CAQDAS and on DA, but also on our own experience as discourse analysts putting some of the main CAQDAS to the test in a media analysis of news texts. Extensible Markup Language and Qualitative Data Analysis

CAQDAS
2002
The increasing popularity of Extensible Markup Language (XML) and the availability of software capable of reading and editing XML documents present opportunities for Qualitative Data Analysis (QDA) facilities to be incorporated into \"groupware\" applications such as collaborative workspaces and \"document bases\", and to be made available across networks both within organisations and across the Internet. Collaborative systems have, in the past, characteristically, been geared to retrieve and present whole documents, and while annotation and discussion of documents has been possible within such systems, the \"pencil-level\" analysis commonplace in CAQDAS (Computer Assisted Qualitative Data Analysis Software) has been lacking. XML, when combined with a scripting language such as Perl, can be used to offer basic QDA functionality--retrieval by text and codes, attachment of memos to text fragments, and the generation of summary data--via a standard web-browser. 2020
This handbook provides a state-of-the-art synthesis of conceptual, measurement, and analytical issues regarding learning strategies and strategic processing. Contributions by educational psychology experts present the clearest-yet definition of this essential and quickly evolving component of numerous theoretical frameworks that operate across academic domains. This volume addresses the most current research and theory on the nature of strategies and performance, mechanisms for unearthing individuals' strategic behaviors, and both long-established and emerging techniques for data analysis and interpretation. (DIPF/Orig.). Contents: Introduction: What are strategies? / Daniel L. Dinsmore, Luke K. Fryer, and Meghan M. Parkinson -- Strategic processing within and across domains of learning / Denis Dumas -- Level of strategies and strategic processing / Daniel L. Dinsmore and Courtney Hattan -- A lifespan developmental perspective on strategic processing / Amélie Rogiers, Emmelien Merchie, Fien De Smedt, Liesje De Backer, and Hilde Van Keer -- Negotiating meaning and engagement : socially shared strategic processing / Deborah L. Using NVIVO in Qualitative Research
1999
From getting started to completing your research project, this book provides a practical guide to using QSR NVivo. Written in clear language, it contains six tutorials to use with your own data. Much more than a manual, the book offers advice with each section, addressing a range of research approaches and priorities. Each chapter starts with an overview and includes tips on design issues and ways of flexibly managing your project. The CD-ROM that orignally accompanied this book and its contents are no longer available. For more details on the latest versions of the QSR NVivo software please visit https://www.qsrinternational.com/.
