A Zero-Touch Dynamic Configuration Management Framework for Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN)

As Industry 5.0 progresses, the demand for zero-touch configuration in industrial automation and smart manufacturing is increasing. This paper proposes a dynamic configuration management framework for Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN), aiming to address the challenges of flexibility and adaptability in dynamic network environments. A zero-touch configuration model is presented for TSN by incorporating a Delay-Aware Shortest Path Search (DASPS) algorithm to improve scheduling success rates. Simulation results demonstrate the ability of the framework to reconfigure networks within 2.67 milliseconds. The DASPS algorithm achieves a scheduling success rate of 70.22% for 1000 TSN flows, in contrast to only 22.23% achieved by the Shortest Path Search (SPS) algorithm. The proposed model effectively adapts to dynamic network changes, guaranteeing real-time data transmission. To further evaluate system adaptability, path entropy is introduced as a metric to quantitatively assess the balance of scheduling outcomes under topological changes. In the event of link failures, path entropy experiences a sharp decline but rapidly recovers after reconfiguration, demonstrating the system’s strong self-healing capability.

At present, many network applications are seeking to implement Time-Sensitive Network (TSN) technology, which not only furnishes communication transmission services that are deterministic, low-latency, highly dependable, and have ample bandwidth, but also enables unified configuration management, permitting different network types to function under a single management system. These characteristics enable it to be widely used in many fields such as industrial sensor and actuator networks, in-vehicle networks, data center networks, and edge computing. Nonetheless, TSN’s configuration management faces numerous difficulties and challenges related to network deployment, automated operation, and maintenance, as well as real-time and safety assurance, rendering it exceedingly intricate. In recent years, some studies have been conducted on TSN configuration management, encompassing various aspects such as system design, key technologies for configuration management, protocol enhancement, and application development. Nevertheless, there is a dearth of systematic summaries of these studies. Hence, this article aims to provide a comprehensive overview of TSN configuration management. Drawing upon more than 70 relevant publications and the pertinent standards established by the IEEE 802.1 TSN working group, we first introduce the system architecture of TSN configuration management from a macro perspective and then explore specific technical details. Additionally, we demonstrate its application scenarios through practical cases and finally highlight the challenges and future research directions. We aspire to provide a comprehensive reference for peers and new researchers interested in TSN configuration management.

Purpose: Since inception in the 1970s, Operational Technology (OT) systems were designed to operate in isolation from Information Technology (IT) systems mainly due to differences in objectives relating to Confidentiality, Integrity, Security and Availability (CISA). Additional diverse components include computing speed, and failure severity in terms of safety, environmental, and financial impact. With the onset of Industry 4.0 and the need for integration the worlds of IT and OT must operate in unison. The focal point of this research is to evaluate if an Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) best practice framework can be integrated into the operational technology domain. Design/methodology/approach: A qualitative desk research methodology initiates data gathering on the two key domains. A comparative analysis is subsequently adopted for results analysis. Thereafter, an application case of ITSM inclusive of OT is proposed and reviewed. Findings: After comparative analysis and application case, the research concludes that an IT best practice framework i.e. the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) can be integrated and adapted into the operational technology domain to facilitate management of OT in a service management style. Practical implications: The key benefit of this work is the inclusion of OT in global IT best practices in this Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) era. Originality/value: This paper contributes to ongoing research in IT-OT integration by providing a unique perspective on OT management in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). Other researchers can utilize the research outcomes to apply ITSM in the OT domain where 4IR technologies have been implemented.

The purpose of the Configuration Management process is carrying and all IT assets, status, configuration, and relationship between each other being well documented. This documentation is useful, among others, for some purposes. The first objective is to create clarity in the relationship between key performance indicators (KPI) an IT services with the infrastructure. Changes to the configuration of those devices would obviously very disturbing the performance of IT services. The second objective is the accuracy of the information which will be used by the Service Delivery processes. So a Service Desk staffwho need to get information about how a user at a branch office to connect to the network's headquarters, linked to issues of access to certain applications. The optimized Fenton-like activity of Fe single-atom sites by Fe atomic clusters—mediated electronic configuration modulation

The performance optimization of isolated atomically dispersed metal active sites is critical but challenging. Here, TiO₂@Fe species-N-C catalysts with Fe atomic clusters (ACs) and satellite Fe-N₄ active sites were fabricated to initiate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) oxidation reaction. The AC-induced charge redistribution of single atoms (SAs) was verified, thus strengthening the interaction between SAs and PMS. In detail, the incorporation of ACs optimized the HSO₅⁻oxidation and SO₅ ·− desorption steps, accelerating the reaction progress. As a result, the Vis/TiFeAS/PMS system rapidly eliminated 90.81% of 45 mg/L tetracycline (TC) in 10 min. The reaction process characterization suggested that PMS as an electron donor would transfer electron to Fe species in TiFeAS, generating ¹O₂. Subsequently, the hVB⁺ can induce the generation of electron-deficient Fe species, promoting the reaction circulation. This work provides a strategy to construct catalysts with multiple atom assembly–enabled composite active sites for high-efficiency PMS-based advanced oxidation processes (AOPs).

Numerical simulations of supersonic separation-reattachment flow over a ramp-cavity configuration are performed using Delayed-Detached-Eddy-Simulation techniques (DDES). The original DDES based on the SA turbulent model (SA-DDES) Simulation and another improved version called Shielding Detached-Eddy-Simulation (SA-SDES) are employed in a comparative study. A study is also conducted to examine how MUSC schemes with varying accuracy affect the flow predictions. It is proven that the enhanced numerical scheme precision and improved SA-SDES model have significantly improved computational results and resolved flow field structure details.
