Digital media in education : teaching, learning and literacy practices with young learners
This book argues for dynamic and relevant school experiences for primary and early secondary learners that embed digital media production. It proposes a vision of literacy that combines new technologies with multiple modes of meaning-making. Drawing on theories related to cultural studies, media literacy, anthropology, and creativity, the author explores learning strategies with digital media based on an empowering, values-driven framework. The book advances innovative teaching methods, critiquing educational 'reforms' that marginalise media and fail to engage with the complex tensions and textures of modern pedagogy. Positioning film and media-making as vital practices in schools that nurture the skills, dispositions and competencies of modern literacy, the model foregrounds connections between human agency, cognition, and creative practice. This innovative book will appeal to students and scholars of creativity, digital media production, primary education and literacy.

Interventions with Digital Tools for Mental Health Promotion among 11–18 Year Olds: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
The availability of digital tools aiming to promote adolescent mental health is rapidly increasing. However, the field lacks an up-to-date and focused review of current evidence. This study thus looked into the characteristics and efficacy of digital, evidence-based mental health programs for youth (11–18 years). The selection procedure followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines and resulted in 27 eligible studies. The high heterogeneity of the results calls for careful interpretation. Nevertheless, small, but promising, effects of digital tools were found with respect to promoting well-being, relieving anxiety, and enhancing protective factors. Some important factors influencing overall efficacy include the given setting, the level of guidance and support, and the adherence to the intervention.

Librarians and paraprofessionals’ digital literacy competencies and digital programs of public libraries in Western Visayas, Philippines
Purpose This study aims to examine the digital literacy (DL) competencies among librarians and paraprofessionals of public libraries in Western Visayas, Philippines. It also investigated the digital programs implemented, the factors enabling or deterring these programs, DL practices and the availed and needed continuing DL skills development. Design/methodology/approach The study adopted the proposed competence areas and competencies for the Digital Literacy Global Framework. A mixed method was used. A total of 10 librarians and 32 paraprofessionals coming from 16 public libraries in the region were surveyed. A follow-up interview was conducted with the five public libraries’ head librarians and library-in-charge. Findings Results showed that librarians demonstrated relatively higher levels of DL competencies in all seven areas than paraprofessionals. Librarians and paraprofessionals rated the digital content creation competencies the lowest among the seven areas. Financial constraints, slow internet connection, limited library technology spaces, lack of training and seminars, insufficient digital resources, inadequate librarian and staff and multiple library roles were expressed as limiting factors in implementing digital programs in public libraries. Partnership training is the only DL skills development program availed by the librarians and paraprofessionals. They expressed the need to have library automation and digital content creation workshops. Originality/value The study attempts to measure the DL skills of librarians and paraprofessionals of public libraries in Western Visayas, Philippines. Capacity building for librarians and paraprofessionals should focus on the items rated very poor to average.
Pilot implementation of an online program for family and friends supporting the mental health of paramedics in Australia: Lessons learned
Paramedics experience disproportionately high rates of mental health concerns, often relying on informal support from family and friends. While this support is vital, it can impose significant strain on family and friends, who frequently lack the necessary resources and skills for their role. To address this, a novel online program, Minds Together, was developed specifically for family and friends to enhance their ability to support the mental health of paramedics while prioritizing their own mental health and wellbeing. The feasibility and acceptability of the program was evaluated through a pilot study involving 53 participants randomized to either program or waitlist groups. Data collection included pre- and post-intervention surveys, program usage metrics, post-project surveys, and feedback from user testing. The Global Impact Analytics Framework (GIAF) guided analysis of planning, pre-engagement, pre-readiness, usability, dissemination, adoption, and contextual factors. Participants valued the program for its lived-experience content and self-paced format. Broad dissemination reached over one million individuals, and usability and relevance were rated highly. However, low engagement and completion rates reflected challenges common to online interventions. Barriers included limited access duration, participants' time constraints, and difficulties in reaching the target audience. Suggestions included flexible access, advanced content options, and targeted outreach strategies. Minds Together shows promise as a scalable intervention for family and friends of paramedics. Future research will address barriers, explore long-term outcomes, and refine the program to better meet family and friends' diverse needs, improving mental health support for paramedics and their support network. •Minds Together is an online program piloted with family and friends supporting the mental health of paramedics.•Program shows promise as a scalable intervention for paramedics' family and friends.•The program was tested in a relevant environment, co-designed and well-planned.•Minds Together rated highly on usefulness, acceptability, practicality, and value.•Reach was comprehensive, however improvement is needed to optimize engagement.
