Blood and mistletoe : the history of the Druids in Britain
Crushed by the Romans in the first century A.D., the ancient Druids of Britain left almost no reliable evidence behind. Because of this, historian Ronald Hutton shows, succeeding British generations have been free to reimagine, reinterpret, and reinvent the Druids. Hutton§s captivating book is the first to encompass two thousand years of Druid history and to explore the evolution of English, Scottish, and Welsh attitudes toward the forever ambiguous figures of the ancient Celtic world. Druids have been remembered at different times as patriots, scientists, philosophers, or priests; sometimes portrayed as corrupt, bloodthirsty, or ignorant, they were also seen as fomenters of rebellion. Hutton charts how the Druids have been written in and out of history, archaeology, and the public consciousness for some 500 years, with particular focus on the romantic period, when Druids completely dominated notions of British prehistory. Sparkling with legends and images, filled with new perspectives on ancient and modern times, this book is a fascinating cultural study of Druids as catalysts in British history. -- Publisher description from http://yalepress.yale.edu (Oct. 3, 2011).
THE SUPPRESSION OF THE DRUIDS IN CAESAR'S GALLIC WAR
2023
Ancient testimonia on the Druids are few in number and sparse on details, and they have yielded a broad range of scholarly opinions on the Druids’ function among the Gauls. This article examines the suspiciously limited role played by the Druids in Julius Caesar's Gallic War (= BGall.). Considering the work of both classicists and archaeologists, it argues that, given Caesar's demonstrated propensity for tailoring his portrayals of northern Europeans to fit with his narrative objectives, he deliberately omitted the Druids from nearly all of the Gallic War save for a brief ethnographic digression on the Gauls. This he did in order to downplay the sophistication of the Gauls, and the threat they posed to the Romans, since the Druids were likely a potent source of anti-Roman sentiment during Caesar's time in Gaul, just as they seem to have been in the Early Imperial period.

Reign of iron
Invaders have massacred and pillaged their way through neighbouring kingdoms and loom on the far side of the sea, ready to descend upon the fortress of Maidun - with them are an unstoppable legion of men twisted by dark magic. Somehow Queen Lowa's army must repel the invasion, although their best general is dead and their young druid powerless. She faces impossible odds, but when the alternative is death or slavery, a warrior queen will do whatever it takes to save her people.
The FMB scale: a multifactorial metric to assess the driving hazard of medicines beyond the DRUID system
2026
A clear rating to show how medicines can affect safe driving for patients, prescribers, and pharmacists Many medicines can make people sleepy, slow their reactions, or blur their vision. This can raise the risk of a crash when driving. Today, information about these risks is scattered across leaflets and drug labels, and it is hard for patients and health professionals to compare medicines fairly. We created a simple scoring system that sums up how likely a medicine is to affect safe driving. The score combines several practical elements: which side effects related to driving are reported (such as drowsiness or dizziness) and how likely they are; the usual dose and timing; how the medicine is taken (e.g., by mouth or as a patch); whether people develop tolerance; and whether combining medicines or alcohol could make things worse. The final output is an easy-to-read risk level that can be shown in electronic prescriptions, pharmacy software, or patient apps. It can help patients and clinicians discuss options (for instance, choosing a non-sedating antihistamine instead of a sedating one when driving is essential) and plan safer behaviors, like avoiding night driving during the first days of a new treatment. This tool does not replace clinical judgment. It gives a clear summary to support shared decisions. More studies are needed to confirm the score against real-world outcomes (such as simulator performance or crash data) and to refine the levels for different patients.

Clash of iron
\"Warriors Dug and Lowa captured Maidun Castle and freed its slaves. But now they must defend it. A Roman invasion is coming to Gaul, but rather than uniting to defend their home, the British tribes go to battle with one another-- and see Maidun as an easy target. Meanwhile, the Romans have recruited bloodthirsty British druids to aid in their conquest and Ragnall finds his loyalties torn when he meets Rome's charismatic general: Julius Caesar\"--Page 4 of cover.
Publish/Subscribe Method for Real-Time Data Processing in Massive IoT Leveraging Blockchain for Secured Storage
2023
In the Internet of Things (IoT) era, the surge in Machine-Type Devices (MTDs) has introduced Massive IoT (MIoT), opening new horizons in the world of connected devices. However, such proliferation presents challenges, especially in storing and analyzing massive, heterogeneous data streams in real time. In order to manage Massive IoT data streams, we utilize analytical database software such as Apache Druid version 28.0.0 that excels in real-time data processing. Our approach relies on a publish/subscribe mechanism, where device-generated data are relayed to a dedicated broker, effectively functioning as a separate server. This broker enables any application to subscribe to the dataset, promoting a dynamic and responsive data ecosystem. At the core of our data transmission infrastructure lies Apache Kafka version 3.6.1, renowned for its exceptional data flow management performance. Kafka efficiently bridges the gap between MIoT sensors and brokers, enabling parallel clusters of brokers that lead to more scalability. In our pursuit of uninterrupted connectivity, we incorporate a fail-safe mechanism with two Software-Defined Radios (SDR) called Nutaq PicoLTE Release 1.5 within our model. This strategic redundancy enhances data transmission availability, safeguarding against connectivity disruptions. Furthermore, to enhance the data repository security, we utilize blockchain technology, specifically Hyperledger Fabric, known for its high-performance attributes, ensuring data integrity, immutability, and security. Our latency results demonstrate that our platform effectively reduces latency for 100,000 devices, qualifying as an MIoT, to less than 25 milliseconds. Furthermore, our findings on blockchain performance underscore our model as a secure platform, achieving over 800 Transactions Per Second in a dataset comprising 14,000 transactions, thereby demonstrating its high efficiency.

Towards a new interpretation of Gilmerton Cove – a possible Druid temple?
2019
Gilmerton Cove, a visitor attraction six kilometres south of Edinburgh, has long been thought to be a strange 18th Century underground pub, but Julian Spalding and Euan MacKie think it is much older and dates from the Iron Age. They make the case that it could even be a deliberately buried Druid Temple discovered by chance and dug out 300 years ago and luckily preserved since then. No pre-18th century artefacts have been found in the Cove, but the Cove itself deserves to be interpreted as an extraordinary artefact, for every centimetre of it is man-made.

The European DRUID (Drive Under the Influence of drugs, alcohol, and medicines) program classifies medications into three categories according to their effect on one’s fitness to drive. The trend in the use of driving-impairing medicines (DIMs) in a region of Spain between 2015 and 2019 was analyzed through a population-based registry study. Pharmacy dispensing records for DIMs are provided. The use of DIMs on drivers was weighted according to the national driver’s license census. The analysis was performed considering the population distribution by age and sex, treatment length, and the three DRUID categories. DIMs were used by 36.46% of the population and 27.91% of drivers, mainly chronically, with considerable daily use (8.04% and 5.34%, respectively). Use was more common in females than in males (42.28% vs. 30.44%) and increased with age. Among drivers, consumption decreases after 60 years of age for females and after 75 years of age for males. There was a 34% increase in the use of DIMs between 2015 and 2019, with a focus on daily use (>60%). The general population took 2.27 ± 1.76 DIMs, fundamentally category II (moderate influence on fitness to drive) (20.3%) and category III (severe influence on fitness to drive) (19.08%). The use of DIMs by the general population and drivers is significant and has increased in recent years. The integration of the DRUID classification into electronic prescription tools would assist physicians and pharmacists in providing adequate information to the patient about the effects of prescribed medications on their fitness to drive.
