Methodological frameworks for adapting global practice guidelines to national context in the Eastern Mediterranean Region
Background: Adapted clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) are based on existing recommendations from other developers. Aims: To produce a mapping summary of the methods used for adaptation of CPGs in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR). Methods: We conducted a literature review of studies describing adaptation of CPGs in the EMR. Databases and official websites were searched for studies published between 2006 and 2022. We excluded de novo development of CPGs and adaptation of other types of guidelines such as public health guidelines. Results: As an overview of the current situation of CPG adaptation in the EMR, we identified the 2 main categories: informal and formal adaptation. Six formal adaptation frameworks were used in the EMR: ADAPTE, Adapted-ADAPTE, GRADE-ADOLOPMENT, RAPADAPTE, CAN-IMPLEMENT, and KSU-Modified-ADAPTE. The validation of adapted CPGs to the local context is not well defined in the literature. Conclusion: Despite the successful use of CPG formal adaptation frameworks, there is no international standardized guidance to identify which framework is most suitable for specific healthcare contexts in the EMR. Each institution has adapted its CPGs differently. A standardized selection tool is needed to enhance the appropriate selection of the adaptation method that fits the local resources and context. We encourage EMR countries and organizations to register their old and new CPG adaptation projects to avoid duplication in guideline synthesis.

US foreign and security policy in contemporary Eastern Mediterranean: the return of great power politics in a changing regional environment
The general purpose of this paper is to examine the US’ contemporary strategic approach on the Eastern Mediterranean in the analytical context of renewed great power tensions. Even though the Eastern Mediterranean does not constitute a high priority for Washington, following the 2017 strategic reorientation toward tackling rival great powers’ international influence US foreign and security policy in the region is organized according to a dual balancing strategy vis-à-vis Russia and China. To investigate this hypothesis, we focus on two relevant subjects: developments in relations among Turkey, Greece, and Cyprus in conjunction with Russia’s influence in the region and Europe’s energy security and China’s moves in the Eastern Mediterranean in the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Linguistic and cultural interactions between Greece and Anatolia : in search of the golden fleece
The aim of this book is to provide new insights on the multi-faceted topic of the relationships between ancient Greece and ancient Anatolia before the Classical era. This is a rapidly evolving field of enquiry, thanks to the recent advances in our understanding of the Anatolian languages and the ever-growing availability of primary evidence. The chapters in this volume investigate the question of Graeco-Anatolian contacts from various points of view and with a specifically linguistic and textual focus. The nature of the evidence calls for an interdisciplinary approach, and the contributions presented here range from writing systems to contact linguistics, without excluding the analysis of cultural motifs and religious practices in both literary texts and non-literary evidence.
Under the Mediterranean sun : a food journey from northern Africa to southern Europe and the Middle East
Authors Nadia and Merijn have always traveled extensively to research their beautiful cookbooks. Under the Mediterranean Sun is no exception. Since publishing Arabia in 2011, they have continued to push the culinary envelope and source the most authentic, simple and delectable recipes. In journeys throughout southern Europe, the Middle East and northern Africa, this dynamic duo document the food, people and stories encountered along the way. For Nadia and Merijn, the Arab world has no strict geography - as certain dishes in Spain and southern Italy are as influenced by the 'Arab world' as those in Morocco, Tunisia and the Middle East. Under the Mediterranean Sun is a personal food odyssey to find the people, places and dishes that unite the Mediterranean and the Arabic world. This book's 125 recipes are separated by region: Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, Algeria, Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Israel, Turkey, Sicily, Andalusia, Sardinia and Catalonia. What unites each of these distinct regions is the incomparable colours, textures and sun-dappled spirit of the Mediterranean.

The Pax Assyriaca
This study of the evolutionary process of ancient civilisations stresses the complementarity between theoretical principles and the relevant historical and archaeological evidence. Taking its approach from World Systems Theory, it focuses on the origin, development and collapse of the first, 'Near Eastern', stage of the 'Central Civilisation'.
