The Impact of a New Specialized Learning Platform on Enhancing Students’ Skills in Designing and Producing Online Educational Talking Books
The use of digital audio-based learning applications in classrooms is increasing. Thus, instructional technology professionals need to become more skilled in designing and developing these apps. To succeed in the future learning process, students studying instructional technology need to have mastered these skills. This study aims to examine the impact of a specialized platform proposed to cultivate students’ skills in easily designing and producing online educational talking books (online ETBs). To improve the target abilities, we developed a new specialized platform as a web-based system for this investigation that includes several innovative tools and special learning content. The research design used was quasi-experimental. Thirty-two undergraduate students majoring in instructional technology who were in the third grade examined the proposed platform. With the pre-and post-test design, all participants were placed into one group. Three online instruments were used to gather the data: a performance observation card; a product evaluation card; and a usability questionnaire. According to the results, the suggested platform considerably increased the practical skills required to design and create an online ETB. Additionally, the proposed platform positively impacted the production of online ETB products with an acceptable proficiency level across various educational subjects. The customized platform has also proven to be a comfortable learning environment for the participating instructional technology students. This platform may be utilized as an ICT teaching tool to enhance instructional technology departments as it is appropriate for constructing online ETBs in various educational areas without coding barriers.
Developing narrative comprehension : multilingual assessment instrument for narratives
Comprehension of texts and understanding of questions is a cornerstone of successful human communication. Whilst reading comprehension has been thoroughly investigated in the last decade, there is surprisingly little research on children's comprehension of picture stories, particularly for bilinguals. This can be partially explained by the lack of cross-culturally robust, cross-linguistic instruments targeting early narration. This book presents an inference-based model of narrative comprehension and a tool that grew out of a large-scale European project on multilingualism. Covering a range of language settings, the book uses the Multilingual Assessment Instrument for Narratives to answer the question which narrative comprehension skills (bilingual) children can be expected to master at a certain age, and explores how such comprehension is affected (or not affected) by linguistic and extra-linguistic factors. Linking theory to method, the book will appeal to researchers in linguistics and psychology and graduate students interested in narrative, multilingualism, and language acquisition.
The shaping school culture fieldbook
When the bestselling books Shaping School Culture and The Shaping School Culture Fieldbook were first published, Kent D. Peterson and Terrence E. Deal described the critical elements of school culture-the purposes, traditions, norms, and values that guide and glue the community together. The authors showed how a positive culture makes school reform work and the companion Fieldbook included the tools needed to bring out the best in students, teachers, and the surrounding community In today's complex educational environment, new challenges have surfaced for school leaders who must grapple with issues of standards-based testing, school accountability, and student achievement. The second edition of The Shaping School Culture Fieldbook offers a companion to the newly revised edition of Shaping School Culture and includes an expanded version of Peterson and Deal's time-tested model to address the latest thinking on school culture and change. The Fieldbook offers a wealth of new ideas and approaches and includes new material on \"toxic\" environments with specific action plans. In addition, the book contains powerful new case examples for revitalizing school culture. The Shaping School Culture Fieldbook draws on the authors' extensive research and nationwide school contacts and includes hands-on strategies and exercises for helping school leaders: Uncover a school's hidden values, beliefs, and assumptions Think through and develop a school's mission and purpose Work out appropriate stories, metaphors, and symbols to represent a school Devise rituals and ceremonies for enriching the school experience Rethink leadership practices in light of educational and cultural needs Identify, transform, and heal a \"toxic\" educational culture This important resource will help school leaders understand, assess, and transform school culture for organizational success.
Handbook of research on schools, schooling, and human development
Children spend more time in school than in any social institution outside the home. And schools probably exert more influence on children's development and life chances than any environment beyond the home and neighbourhood. The purpose of this book is to document some important ways schools influence children's development and to describe various models and methods for studying schooling effects. Key features include: Comprehensive Coverage - this is the first book to provide a comprehensive review of what is known about schools as a context for human development. Topical coverage ranges from theoretical foundations to investigative methodologies and from classroom-level influences such as teacher-student relations to broader influences such as school organization and educational policies. Cross-Disciplinary - this volume brings together the divergent perspectives, methods and findings of scholars from a variety of disciplines, among them educational psychology, developmental psychology, school psychology, social psychology, psychiatry, sociology, and educational policy. Chapter Structure - to ensure continuity, chapter authors describe 1) how schooling influences are conceptualized 2) identify their theoretical and methodological approaches 3) discuss the strengths and weaknesses of existing research and 4) highlight implications for future research, practice, and policy. Methodologies - chapters included in the text feature various methodologies including longitudinal studies, hierarchical linear models, experimental and quasi-experimental designs, and mixed methods.
The river that flows beside me
\"A vibrant, richly illustrated concertina book that takes the reader on a journey down the river, from the source high up in the mountains all the way to the sea, venturing down surging waterfalls and past meandering turns, whilst exploring the remarkable relationship between humans, animals, nature and rivers\"-- Publisher's description.
The needs of family caregivers of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: a scoping review protocol
Introduction Family caregivers of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) play a pivotal role in day-to-day care and disease management. This scoping review aims to identify, describe, and map the needs of family caregivers of patients with COPD worldwide. For the purposes of this review, caregiver “needs” refer to requirements that support caregivers’ ability to provide care and maintain their own well-being, including informational, emotional/psychological, practical (skills and daily care tasks), social, financial, respite, and navigation/support-service needs. Methods and analysis The primary research question guiding this scoping review is: What are the needs of family caregivers of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)? This review will be conducted following the methodological framework outlined by the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) for scoping reviews. The eligibility criteria will be determined using the Population, Concept, and Context (PCC) framework. A comprehensive search will be carried out in electronic databases including MEDLINE via PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Scopus, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, as well as Persian scientific databases and grey literature sources, covering studies published up to May 2024 without language restrictions. Two independent reviewers will screen and select studies for inclusion. A standardized data extraction form, developed specifically for this review, will be used to collect relevant information. Data will be analyzed thematically to identify and categorize the various needs of family caregivers. Findings will be synthesized and presented through tables, figures, and narrative summaries to highlight key themes and gaps in the existing literature. Ethics and dissemination This research does not entail the participation of human or animal subjects. All data utilized will be extracted exclusively from existing published literature. The findings generated from this study are intended for dissemination through submission to an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal, as well as presentation at scientific conferences focused on copd care giver needs.
