Automatic generation control (AGC) is primarily responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of an electric power system. The main goal of AGC is to keep the operating frequency under prescribed limits and maintain the interchange power at the intended level. Therefore, an AGC system must be supplemented with modern and intelligent control techniques to provide adequate power supply. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of various AGC models in diverse configurations of the power system. Initially, the history of power system AGC models is explored and the basic operation of AGC in a multi-area interconnected power system is presented. An in-depth analysis of various control methods used to mitigate the AGC issues is provided. Application of fast-acting energy storage devices, high voltage direct current (HVDC) interconnections, and flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS) devices in the AGC systems are investigated. Furthermore, AGC systems employed in different renewable energy generation systems are overviewed and are summarized in tabulated form. AGC techniques in different configurations of microgrid and smart grid are also presented in detail. A thorough overview of various AGC issues in a deregulated power system is provided by considering the different contract scenarios. Moreover, AGC systems with an additional objective of economic dispatch is investigated and an overview of worldwide AGC practices is provided. Finally, the paper concludes with an emphasis on the prospective study in the field of AGC.

Standardization in Smart Grids
The first successful finished Smart Grid Prototype Projects deliver new requirements and best practices to meet them. These solutions will be the base for the upcoming norms and standards in the near future. This domain is not only part of one Standard developing Organization (SDO), but also of many different organizations like ITU, ISO, IEC and additionally for the electro mobility part the SAE. This results in many standards which are based on different aspects. Furthermore the European mirror organizations (ETSI,CEN, CENELEC) as well as the German mirror groups of these groups are involved, which are delivering further rules and adaption for the local market. Because of this diversity of organizations involved, it is difficult for the local companies (which includes energy utility, manufacturer and software producer specialized on integration) to identify the relevant trends, standardization groups and technologies necessary. With the EU Mandate M490 to CEN/CNELEC and TESI and the Commission being a driving force (e.g. ftp://ftp.cencenelec.eu/CENELEC/Smartgrid/SmartGridFinalReport.pdf and http://www.cenelec.eu/aboutcenelec/whatwedo/technologysectors/smartgrids.html) standardization becomes more and more important - but it's complex and not easy to be understood. Here at OFFIS, we provide training but we are always asked for textbooks on our tranings. Based on our modules for the SG tranings, we would estimate the following chapters to be relevant to SG stakeholders in standardization (roughly 16-20 pages per chapter).
Nonlinear Intelligent Control of Two Link Robot Arm by Considering Human Voluntary Components
2022
This paper proposes a nonlinear intelligent control of a two link robot arm by considering human voluntary components. In general, human arm viscoelastic properties are regulated in different manners according to various task requirements. The viscoelasticity consists of joint stiffness and viscosity. The research of the viscoelasticity can improve the development of industrial robots, rehabilitation and sports etc. So far, some results have been shown using filtered human arm viscoelasticity measurements. That is, human motor command is removed. As a result, the dynamics of human voluntary component during movements is omitted. In this paper, based on the feedforward characteristics of human multi joint arm, a model is obtained by considering human voluntary components using a support vector regression technique. By employing the learned model, a nonlinear intelligent control of two link robot arm is proposed. Experimental results confirm the effectiveness of this proposal.

Parallel population and parallel human : a cyber-physical social approach
\"This book is a result of an ambitious research agenda I made for myself almost 30 years ago after reading Karl Popper's The Open Society and its Enemies. To me, the open society should have no enemies, we must find a way to build the bridge between Popper's utopian social engineering and piecemeal social engineering, perhaps through the Cyber-enabled Social Movement Organizations and Operations (CeSMO), and that would be my research for the rest of my professional career. I had promised myself to write a book entitled The Open Society and its Friends, and even created a new name for my ambition, Bemonad, for Becoming and Being Gottfried Leibniz's Monad, which was redefined as the atom of intelligence for Popper's Artificial World in the sense of ancient Greek philosopher Democritus' atom for matters in the Physical World. Of course, I realized very soon that it is simply a dream and a mission impossible. However, this had dramatically changed my career path from intelligent control for robotic systems to a mixture of science, technology, engineering, and social studies for complex intelligent systems, or an interdisciplinary approach by today's term, starting from my technical report at NASA/UA Space Engineering Research Center (SERC) on Shadow Systems in 1994 and ending up with the creation of the Program for Advanced Research in Complex Systems (PARCS) at the University of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona in 1999.\"-- Provided by publisher.
Advanced Intelligent Control through Versatile Intelligent Portable Platforms
Deep research and communicating new trends in the design, control and applications of the real time control of intelligent sensors systems using advanced intelligent control methods and techniques is the main purpose of this research. The innovative multi-sensor fusion techniques, integrated through the Versatile Intelligent Portable (VIP) platforms are developed, combined with computer vision, virtual and augmented reality (VR&AR) and intelligent communication, including remote control, adaptive sensor networks, human-robot (H2R) interaction systems and machine-to-machine (M2M) interfaces. Intelligent decision support systems (IDSS), including remote sensing, and their integration with DSS, GA-based DSS, fuzzy sets DSS, rough sets-based DSS, intelligent agent-assisted DSS, process mining integration into decision support, adaptive DSS, computer vision based DSS, sensory and robotic DSS, are highlighted in the field of advanced intelligent control.
