Challenging Intern Nation: A Roundtable with Intern Labour Activists in Canada
2015
Internships have gained critical attention in Canada, thanks largely to the efforts of intern labour activists, who have generated media coverage, lobbied and advised politicians, conducted education and outreach, and advocated for an end to the proliferation of unpaid internships in Canada. This roundtable interview with intern labour activists Ella Henry, Andrew Langille, Joshua Mandryk, and Claire Seaborn was conducted by Nicole Cohen and Greig de Peuter in Toronto on March 1, 2015. Follow up interviewing was conducted over e-mail in May 2015. The interview has been edited and condensed.

Private sector unionism is in decline in the United States. As a result, labor advocates, community groups, nongovernmental organizations, and individuals concerned with the well-being of workers have sought to develop alternative ways to represent workers' interests. Emerging Labor Market Institutions for the Twenty-First Century provides the first in-depth assessment of how effectively labor market institutions are responding to this drastically altered landscape. This important volume provides case studies of new labor market institutions and new directions for existing institutions. The contributors examine the behavior and impact of new organizations that have formed to solve workplace problems and to bolster the position of workers. They also document how unions employ new strategies to maintain their role in the economic system. While non-union institutions are unlikely to fill the gap left by the decline of unions, the findings suggest that emerging groups and unions might together improve some dimensions of worker well-being. Emerging Labor Market Institutions is the story of workers and institutions in flux, searching for ways to represent labor in the new century.
Black social movements in Latin America : from monocultural mestizaje to multiculturalism
2014,2012

02
This collection of essays explores the transformations of the political landscapes within which black social movements in Latin America have been operating since the end of the 1970s. Evaluating social movements in their various national contexts, the essays reveal that the official, state narratives about these movements have gone from considering these movements to be part of \"monocultural mestizaje\" to seeing them as multicultural and incorporated into, or coopted by, the state. As the contributions to this volume show, these new situations have rendered Afro-Latino political struggles more complex, at times even heightening the antagonism they encounter.

The book will mark the paradigmatic shift that is taking shape in Afro Latin-American studies, where scholarly and political activists' narratives of Afro Latin American 'invisibility' are quickly becoming more and more untenable in front of current realities

Women, partisanship, and the Congress
2005
As women increasingly play a role and gain even greater prominence in congressional politics, they need to navigate the at times conflicting demands of loyalty to party culture, responsiveness to party leadership, political goals, and the need to get re-elected. Based on extensive interviews and historically informed, this book examines differences between Republican and Democratic political cultures, how these differences affect women members of congress as they pursue agendas and seek to bolster their electability, and the effectiveness of women within an institution traditionally dominated by men.

LA POLÍTICA DE MÉXICO EN TORNO A LAS ARMAS DE FUEGO
2022
This paper addresses the issue of Mexico’s (very active) foreign policy on the regulation of firearms and the domestic lack of compliance with a number of treaties that the Foreign Ministry promotes in multilateral forums. The principal hypothesis is that the gap between active foreign policy and the absence of domestic measures is explained by the resistance of domestic actors and the lack of a coordinated policy on firearms at the federal level. Although the Foreign Ministry has adopted an activist and leading policy on the matter, this forms a part of the diplomatic tradition that favors disarmament, non-proliferation and a peaceful solution to conflicts. It is argued that recent diplomatic actions in response to the illegal trafficking of arms have been isolated initiatives.
As well as contributing to the literature on the interaction between foreign policy and domestic policy on firearms (an issue that has received insufficient attention), the aim of this text is to present a comprehensive analysis of Mexican government policy on the issue, including its contradictions and areas of opportunity.

WILPF US interns: Learning what it means to be an advocate for peace
2017
By Dianna Carlson WILPF Program Support Intern The Women's International League for Peace and Freedom caught my attention in the summer of 2015 when I was researching organizations that work toward human and women's rights and international equity. The internship brought many different subtopics of peace work-such as Disarm/End Wars, Earth Democracy, and Advancing Human Rights, to name a few-into my life, and I was lucky enough to grow more knowledgeable about disarmament and the organization practices, thanks to my advisors, Program Chairs Maureen Ngozi Eke and Odile Hugonot Haber, whom I deeply admire. Together, we worked on a document called the Program Strategic Plan, which was drafted by WILPF members during a program planning retreat in an effort to define best practices for WILPF and to coordinate the activities of the branches. The key to my drive and the work of WILPF can be found in a statement Kozue Akibayashi made during her \"Ending War and Patriarchy\" presentation: \"WILPF is powerful [and still around] because intersectional feminist ideology is inevitable to end war [and to create a more peaceful society], \" By Krystal Kilhart Communications Intern I was initially drawn to activism when I was in high school, after...

Online medieringer af handicapkropslighed Intimiteter/Mobiliteter/Temporaliteter
2019
