Auditory Perception -- physiology
2010,2007
In the first comprehensive study of the relationship between music and language from the standpoint of cognitive neuroscience, Aniruddh D. Patel challenges the widespread belief that music and language are processed independently. This volume argues that music and language share deep and critical connections, and that comparative research provides a powerful way to study the cognitive and neural mechanisms underlying these uniquely human abilities.

A theoretical approach to the significance of tourism as a phenomenon Abstract: In the chaotic context resulting from industrial and capitalist cultural patterns that have pervaded society ever since the episteme of civilization was forged, and that affect each area of the systems that coexist in the socio-cultural environment, including modern tourism, where linearity, progress, development for development’s sake and economics prevail, we considered it to be relevant to reappraise the dialectics of the logic of tourism, moving from its innovatory or phenomelogical aspects to reality as it presents itself, in the community, via participation and modifications in cultural behaviour and language to generate greater social knowledge with a view to a symbolic interpretation of tourism. Keywords: Significance; Culture; Episteme; Civilizing order; Phenomenology of tourism.

\"[The authors] are pioneers. . . . Few in our industry havetheir breadth of knowledge and experience.\"
From the Foreword by Dave Thomas, Bedarra LabsDomain-Specific Modeling (DSM) is the latest approach tosoftware development, promising to greatly increase the speed andease of software creation. Early adopters of DSM have been enjoyingproductivity increases of 5001000% in production for over adecade. This book introduces DSM and offers examples from variousfields to illustrate to experienced developers how DSM can improvesoftware development in their teams. Two authorities in the field explain what DSM is, why it works, and how to successfully create and use a DSM solution to improveproductivity and quality. Divided into four parts, the book covers:background and motivation; fundamentals; in-depth examples; andcreating DSM solutions. There is an emphasis throughout the book onpractical guidelines for implementing DSM, including how toidentify the necessary language constructs, how to generate fullcode from models, and how to provide tool support for a new DSMlanguage. The example cases described in the book are available thebook's Website, www.dsmbook.com, along with, an evaluation copy ofthe MetaEdit+ tool (for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux), which allowsreaders to examine and try out the modeling languages and codegenerators.Domain-Specific Modeling is an essential reference for leaddevelopers, software engineers, architects, methodologists, andtechnical managers who want to learn how to create a DSM solutionand successfully put it into practice.

Controlling multiplicity in experiments ensures better decision making and safeguards against false claims. Adopting a unifying theme based on maximum statistics, this self-contained introduction describes the common underlying theory of multiple comparison procedures through numerous examples. It covers a range of multiple comparison procedures, from the Bonferroni method and Simes' test to resampling and adaptive design methods. The book also presents a detailed description of available software implementations in R. The R packages and source code for the analyses are available at http://CRAN.R-project.org.

ChatGPT is a versatile conversational Artificial Intelligence model that responds to user input prompts, with applications in academia and various sectors. However, crafting effective prompts can be challenging, leading to potentially inaccurate or contextually inappropriate responses, emphasizing the importance of prompt engineering in achieving accurate outcomes across different domains. This study aims to address this void by introducing a methodology for optimizing interactions with Artificial Intelligence language models, like ChatGPT, through prompts in the field of engineering. The approach is called GPEI and relies on the latest advancements in this area; and consists of four steps: define the objective, design the prompt, evaluate the response, and iterate. Our proposal involves two key aspects: data inclusion in prompt design for engineering applications and the integration of Explainable Artificial Intelligence principles to assess responses, enhancing transparency. It combines insights from various methodologies to address issues like hallucinations, emphasizing iterative prompt refinement techniques like posing opposing questions and using specific patterns for improvement. This methodology could improve prompt precision and utility in engineering.
