Plasmon-Enhanced Visible and Near-Infrared Photodetection with Gold Nanorods UCNPs/MoSsub.2 Hybrid Device
The near-infrared photodetection of monolayer MoS[sub.2] can be achieved using upconverted nanoparticles (UCNPs). Herein, we demonstrated that gold nanorods (Au NRs) further enhanced the near-infrared photoresponsivity of a hybrid device via the surface plasmon enhancement of the localized field. We synthesized a three-layer device comprising Au NRs, UCNPs (NaYF[sub.4]:Yb[sup.3+], Er[sup.3+]), and monolayer MoS[sub.2], and examined its photoelectric characteristics using laser irradiation with varying power densities at 980 nm, the excitation wavelength of UCNPs. Compared with a device without Au NRs, the photoelectric response of the three-layer device was greatly improved at 5 V bias, and photoresponsivity was increased at visible wavelengths (450, 532, and 635 nm). This study contributes to the knowledge of two-dimensional materials for the development of hybrid photoelectronic devices.
The art of making peace : lessons learned from peace treaties
This unique volume looks at international peace treaties, at their results, effects and failures. It reflects the outcome of an international conference held in the Peace Palace (The Hague) on the occasion of the Centenary of this institution, which opened its doors on the eve of World War I. 00The volume offers the reflections of the leading experts attending the conference and the open debate which followed. The Treaty of Versailles of 1919, the mother of all peace treaties, is the first to be critically discussed. How should this treaty be viewed with the knowledge of today? What are the lessons learned in the light of historic developments? Subsequently, the Dayton Agreement, which sealed the end to the bloody conflict in the former Yugoslavia (1992-1995), and the Sudan Agreement, which came into being after lengthy negotiations in 2005, are analysed in the same way. Finally, the situations which arose in relation to the devastating wars between Iran and Iraq (1980-1988) and between Kuwait and Iraq are discussed. As these states could not reach a settlement themselves, the United Nations Security Council imposed the terms of the ceasefire and peaceful cooperation in important and innovative resolutions. 00.
How mediation works : resolving conflict through talk
\"Using conversation analysis to study the interaction between mediators and disputants, this study shows how mediation is used to resolve conflict in small claims and divorce mediation sessions. Angela Garcia explores the techniques mediators use to help disputants tell their stories, make and respond to complaints and accusations, and come up with ideas for resolving the dispute. By analyzing these techniques in their interactional context, she shows how they impact the experience and responses of disputants, and demonstrates that mediator techniques can empower disputants, maximize disputant autonomy, and display mediator's neutrality while in some cases, the organization of talk in mediation may work against these goals. This book is the first to use conversation analysis to study how mediation works and how mediators can best help disputants\"-- Provided by publisher.
Immersed within Immersion: Boddies of Water/S'immerger dans l'immersion: Une eau la nuit
Water has always permeated the history of human imagination as a symbol of life, rebirth, and transformation, but also as a threshold of mystery. Because of its transparency and reflective qualities, as well as its fluidity and mutability, water not only stimulates the senses, but integrates them, generating a profoundly synesthetic experience. In the twentieth century, it became a plastic element that progressively accompanied the dissolution of the classical framework based on linear perspective, transforming the subject represented into an experiential medium that ultimately enveloped the viewer within the exhibition space.
