Strong-Cuevas drawings : ideas on paper
Artist Strong-Cuevas (b. 1929) says her work \"expresses thoughts about universal consciousness, space and time, and inner mediation.\" Known for her sculptures made from bronze, stainless steel, and aluminum, Strong-Cuevas's art often portrays the human head and plays with scale. Her drawings are no different. They express the same themes, but are rarely used as a diagram for her sculptures. A companion to Strong-Cuevas Sculpture, this volume is a beautifully presented retrospective of Strong-Cuevas's drawings over the last 40 years. The book features 190 images, arranged thematically, and explores the recurring themes in Strong-Cuevas's art, regardless of medium. With a foreword by art critic Jan Garden Castro, Strong-Cuevas Drawings offers a closer look at the artist's process of creating expressive works.
Ted Strong Jr
2024
Ted Strong Jr.(1917-1978) was a two-sport athlete, a major star of the Negro Leagues and one of the original Harlem Globetrotters. His prominence in the Negro Leagues led Branch Rickey and other white baseball league owners to consider Strong as one of several possible players to integrate major league baseball, and he was a key force.
Heaven is a long way off : a novel of the mountain men
\"Sam Morgan, once a young runaway from Philadelphia, now a seasoned fur trapper and mountain man, faces the most daunting task of his adventuresome life. It is 1827 and he, together with the trapping brigade commanded by Jedediah Smith, has been expelled from Mexican California. To his unending sorrow, Meadowlark, Sam's beloved Indian wife, has died in childbirth and he has been forced to abandon his infant daughter, Esperanza. Now, Sam is determined to reclaim his baby and take her to Meadowlark's village on the Wind River of Wyoming\"--Publisher marketing.
STRONG INCIDENCE DOMINATION INDEX IN FUZZY INCIDENCE GRAPHS
2025
This article introduces the concept of the domination index in fuzzy incidence graphs (FIGs) through the use of strong incidence domination. It explores several related notions, including fuzzy incidence irredundant set, fuzzy incidence independent set, fuzzy incidence independent dominating set, upper strong incidence domination number, strong incidence irredundance number, strong incidence upper irredundance number, strong incidence independent domination number and strong incidence independence number. The article examines inequalities involving these terms and introduces the concept of the strong incidence domination degree. It defines the strong incidence domination index in FIGs based on the domination degree of vertices and discusses bounds for the index. The study extends to complete FIGs, complete bipartite FIGs, fuzzy incidence cycles (FICs), fuzzy incidence trees (FITs), and the union and join of FIGs. Keywords: upper strong incidence domination number, strong incidence irredundance number, strong incidence upper irredundance number, strong incidence independent domination number and strong incidence independence number, strong incidence domination degree, strong incidence domination index.

Secure communication is essential in today's rapidly evolving digital environment, and strong encryption methods are required to protect private data from unwanted access. The aim of this study is to strengthen the security and complexity of encrypted communications by adopting a new form of cryptographic encryption technique based on the principles of an intuitionistic fuzzy graph. Key graph-theoretic measures, such as domination number, vertex categorization (alpha-strong, beta-strong, and gamma-strong), vertex order coloring, and chromatic number, play important roles in this process. Domination number finds the key vertices of the network, while vertex strength categorization and fuzzy graph coloring provide multiple encryption layers, hence the encoded message is highly resistant to decryption unless a proper key is used. The chromatic number offers further security through various patterns of vertex coloring. The comparative analysis shows the proposed approach to be superior compared to RSA, AES, ECC, and Blowfish due to its increased security, computational efficiency, and resilience to attacks. This framework can be applied to the protection of banking PINs, military access codes, government identification numbers, cryptographic keys, and medical records, so it is an extremely versatile solution for protecting sensitive data. This multi-step approach to encryption through the proposed technique ensures safe transfer and efficient encoding as it establishes a complicated framework.

Making ab initio QED functional(s)

2021
Strong light–matter coupling provides a promising path for the control of quantum matter where the latter is routinely described from first principles. However, combining the quantized nature of light with this ab initio tool set is challenging and merely developing as the coupled light–matter Hilbert space is conceptually different and computational cost quickly becomes overwhelming. In this work, we provide a nonperturbative photon-free formulation of quantum electrodynamics (QED) in the long-wavelength limit, which is formulated solely on the matter Hilbert space and can serve as an accurate starting point for such ab initio methods. The present formulation is an extension of quantum mechanics that recovers the exact results of QED for the zero- and infinite-coupling limit and the infinite-frequency as well as the homogeneous limit, and we can constructively increase its accuracy. We show how this formulation can be used to devise approximations for quantum-electrodynamical density-functional theory (QEDFT), which in turn also allows us to extend the ansatz to the full minimal-coupling problem and to nonadiabatic situations. Finally, we provide a simple local density–type functional that takes the strong coupling to the transverse photon degrees of freedom into account and includes the correct frequency and polarization dependence. This QEDFT functional accounts for the quantized nature of light while remaining computationally simple enough to allow its application to a large range of systems. All approximations allow the seamless application to periodic systems.

Monetary policy and the onset of the Great Depression : the myth of Benjamin Strong as decisive leader
\"Monetary Policy and the Onset of the Great Depression\" challenges Milton Friedman and Anna Schwartz's now-consensus view that the high tide of the Federal Reserve System in the 1920s was due to the leadership skills of Benjamin Strong, head of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. In this new work, Toma develops a self-regulated model of the Federal Reserve, which stands in contrast to a conventional discretionary model. Given the easy redemption of dollars for gold and the competition among Reserve banks, the self-regulated model implies that the early Fed could control neither the money supply nor the price level. Exploiting an untapped data set, later chapters test the thesis of self-regulation by focusing on the monetary decisions of individual Reserve banks. The micro-based evidence indicates that \"Reserve banks really did compete\" and that Benjamin Strong as decisive leader during the 1920s is a myth. This finding, with its emphasis on monetary policy in the years leading up to the Great Depression, will be of interest to scholars, students, and sophisticated lay readers with an interest in macroeconomic and monetary economic policy issues, specifically to those with an interest in economic history.\"

Liquids can be broadly classified into two categories, fragile and strong ones, depending on how their dynamical properties change with temperature. The dynamics of a strong liquid obey the Arrhenius law, whereas the fragile one displays a super-Arrhenius law, with a much steeper slowing down upon cooling. Recently, however, it was discovered that many materials such as water, oxides, and metals do not obey this simple classification, apparently exhibiting a fragile-to-strong transition far above T
g. Such a transition is particularly well known for water, and it is now regarded as one of water’s most important anomalies. This phenomenon has been attributed to either an unusual glass transition behavior or the crossing of a Widom line emanating from a liquid–liquid critical point. Here by computer simulations of two popular water models and through analyses of experimental data, we show that the emergent fragile-to-strong transition is actually a crossover between two Arrhenius regimes with different activation energies, which can be naturally explained by a two-state description of the dynamics. Our finding provides insight into the fragile-to-strong transition observed in a wide class of materials.
