2017
The paper deals with methodological approaches of cost evaluation of canned feed production, especially cost evaluation of corn silage or silage from melted multiannual fodder on arable land. Mainly there is modification of the cost calculation method in two steps used for chosen fodder crops up to now. The first step is cost calculation of chosen fodder crops during cultivation and harvesting. The second step is cost calculation of chosen fodder crops processing, it means process of crops ensilage. The result of methodological modification of cost evaluation of canned feed production is an aggregate of own cost calculation by combining both phases of calculation, i.e. connection in the initial phase of cultivation and harvesting of fodder crops and the subsequent phase of proc essing and transport of canned feed. The paper is a partial output of a Research project of FBE MUAF Brno, (MSM No 6215648904). [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]

In this paper, we propose a large language models (LLMs) assisted algorithm that uses ChatGPT to summarize clinical notes and then concatenate these generated summaries with structured data to predict sepsis. We perform a human evaluation of the summaries generated by ChatGPT and evaluate our algorithm using an independent test set. Our algorithm achieves a high prediction AUC of 0.93 (95% CI 0.92-0.93), accuracy of 0.92 (95% CI 0.91-0.92), and specificity of 0.89 (95% CI 0.88-0.90) 4 hours before the onset of sepsis. The ablation study demonstrated a 2% improvement in predicted AUC score when utilizing ChatGPT for clinical notes summarization compared to traditional methods, 4 hours before the sepsis onset. The experiment results in turn revealed the remarkable performance of ChatGPT in the domain of clinical notes summarization.

Storyboard-based accurate automatic summary video editing system
The recent popularity of smart mobile devices has led to a significant increase in the needs of multimedia services. Finding new more efficient methods for automatic classification and retrieval of a large number of multimedia files will significantly reduce manpower costs. However, most current video content analysis methods adopt low-level features to analyze video frame by frame, and need to improve high-level semantic analysis on a number of issues. Hence, this study presents a storyboard-based accurate automatic summary video editing system that uses storyboard information, such as character dialogue, narration, caption, background music and shot changes, to enable accurate video content retrieval and automatic render summary videos. The proposed system can be applied to the course video trailer and the commercial video trailer for quick preview video content or suitable viewing configuration for smart mobile devices. Consequently, the audience can quickly understand the whole video story and the video editors can substantially reduce the time taken to publish videos.

Avoiding “Negligence and Profusion”
2016
The directors of such [joint-stock] companies, however, being the managers of other people's money than their own, it cannot well be expected, that they should watch over it with the same anxious vigilance with which the partners in a private copartnery frequently watch over their own ... negligence and profusion, therefore, must always prevail, more or less, in the management of the affairs of such a company.

Use of an Integrated Computer-Based Information System at Chemical and Oil-and-Gas Machine Production Enterprises
2014
It is proposed that calculations of itemized and summary preliminary planned production costs of articles and the subsequent use of the results in the course of technical training and production should be performed with the use of the software of the Stalker PLM v. 7 integrated computer-based information system and the electronic structure of the article. Implementation of the functions of the integrated computer-based information system related to business processes involved in design and planning of production for the purpose of performing preliminary calculations of articles at itemized and summary levels is demonstrated. Quantitative and qualitative indicators from the introduction of Stalker PLM v. 7 at chemical and oil-and-gas machine production enterprises are obtained from the results of practical approval.

2009
Query processing in large-scale unstructured P2P networks is a crucial part of operating such systems. In order to avoid expensive flooding of the network during query processing so-called routing indexes are used. Each peer maintains such an index for its neighbors. It provides a compact representation (data summary) of data accessible via each neighboring peer. An important problem in this context is to keep these data summaries up-to-date without paying high maintenance costs. In this paper, we investigate the problem of maintaining distributed data summaries in P2P-based environments without global knowledge and central instances. Based on a classification of update propagation strategies, we discuss several approaches to reduce maintenance costs and present results from an experimental evaluation.

Ensuring America's Health: Publicly Constructing the Private Health Insurance Industry, 1945–1970
2012
“Ensuring America's Health” demonstrates how public and private power intermingled to embed a specific organizational model—the insurance company model—into the health care system. The dissertation draws on government documents, trade association papers, company archives, and interviews with policymakers, insurance industry leaders, and physicians. In addition to exploring health care politics, it presents a detailed study of major trade associations and ground-level organizations, such as individual insurance companies and physician offices. This history reveals the degree to which policy debates and private sector organization have informed one another; exposes the factors driving US health care costs; and details the origins of the system's pseudo-corporate structure, which places insurance companies in a supervisory role over physicians and hospitals.

Assessments
2009
This paper assesses the causes and socioeconomic impact of some recent cases of collapsed buildings in Nigeria. Information on selected collapsed buildings was collated, and a case study of a failed one-story building is presented for emphasis. A summary of the technical assessment and remediation of the building was presented as well. Both field and laboratory work involved close inspection of the building, excavation to reveal the condition of the foundation, taking samples of slabs and beams from the collapsed building for laboratory study, detailed structural analysis, a design analysis of the structural elements of the building to reveal causes of failure, and identification of remedial options and recommendation. Solubility of concrete in acids was used to assess the quality of concrete used. This study revealed that a lot of lives and properties have been lost in the various collapsed buildings, and these losses have negatively impacted the socioeconomic status of Nigerians. The results of the case study revealed that the main structural components (slab, beam, column, and footing) of the building were not properly proportioned and were seriously underreinforced, which led to excessive deflection. Additionally, concrete mixes used in the construction were found to be weak, and walls that should have been non-load-bearing ended up carrying loads and induced a hogging moment onto the slab for which reinforcement was not provided. The solubility tests showed that the ratio of calcium concentration of concrete mix used in the collapsed building to that of standard 1:2:4 concrete mixes were 0.03, 0.20, and 0.73, respectively. These low ratios indicate that the cement portion in the concrete was not adequate, and it was concluded that the concrete samples from the collapsed building contained less calcium than necessary for structural success. The summary of the assessment underscored the need for ensuring quality control and proper supervision in the construction of reinforced concrete structures.

The Business of Transatlantic Migration between Europe and the USA, 1900–1914
2006
The relocation of Europeans across the North Atlantic during the first decade and a half of the twentieth century was the culmination of the longest-lived and most widely documented transoceanic migration of modern times. This enormous population transfer was a great human drama, a major international demographic shift, and a massive historical experiment in cultural transformation during a period of unprecedented globalization. This migration was also a complex and powerful travel business containing both risks and rewards for its three fundamental participants: the movers, the moved, and the sovereign authorities on either side of the borders being traversed. Prior studies have not adequately explained this business nor appreciated the extent to which the various strategies for dealing with its associated risks were crucial, largely congruent, and self-reinforcing elements of the overall migration process.
