Background
Activated phosphoinositide 3-kinase delta (PI3Kδ) syndrome (APDS) is an ultra-rare inborn error of immunity, characterised by immunodeficiency and immune dysregulation. Having only been recognised in 2013, evidence on APDS is limited. We carried out four systematic literature reviews (SLRs) to identify and narratively synthesise evidence on the following for APDS: epidemiology (epidemiology SLR), clinical efficacy/safety of treatments (clinical SLR), cost-effectiveness and costs/healthcare (HCRU) associated with (economic SLR) and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and utility data (HRQoL SLR) from a global perspective.
Methods
The Cochrane Collaboration and the University of York’s Centre for Reviews and Dissemination (CRD) guidelines were followed. MEDLINE, Embase, the Cochrane Library, University of York CRD, conference proceedings and other grey literature were searched through to May 2023 for all SLRs, except the epidemiology SLR (searched to Nov 2021); economic databases were also searched for the economic and HRQoL SLRs. Eligible records were: primary epidemiology publications (epidemiology SLR), interventional/observational studies of treatments (clinical SLR), cost/HCRU studies/economic evaluations (economic SLR) and HRQoL/utility studies (HRQoL SLR) in people with APDS. Risk of bias was assessed using the Downs and Black checklist (clinical SLR) and the Drummond checklist (economic SLR).
Results
The numbers of unique relevant studies identified were: 0 (epidemiology SLR), 117 (clinical SLR; 87 reported on <5 patients), 2 (economic SLR) and 1 (HRQoL SLR). The clinical SLR reported symptomatic treatments to be only partially effective at controlling APDS manifestations, with variable tolerability. Outcome reporting was heterogeneous and inconsistent, with small sample sizes and patients receiving multiple treatments, limiting interpretation of results. The economic SLR reported a high direct cost of APDS. Additional HRQoL/utility studies are required to evaluate the clinical and HRQoL burden of APDS and the impact of therapies.
Conclusion
Four methodologically robust SLRs identified limited evidence on epidemiology, clinical outcomes, costs and HRQoL in APDS, reflecting its ultra-rare nature and recent recognition. This suggests a need for more rigorous data evaluating the clinical and economic effectiveness of APDS treatments. Outcome reporting was highly heterogeneous and inconsistent across studies, sample sizes were small and patients often received multiple treatments, limiting interpretation of results.

Closing the Energy Efficiency Gap—A Systematic Review of Empirical Articles on Drivers to Energy Efficiency in Manufacturing Firms
2018
Research has identified an extensive potential for energy efficiency within the manufacturing sector, which is responsible for a substantial share of global energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. The purpose of this study is to enhance the knowledge of vital drivers for energy efficiency in this sector by providing a critical and systematic review of the empirical literature on drivers to energy efficiency in manufacturing firms at the firm level. The systematic literature review (SLR) is based on peer-reviewed articles published between 1998 and 2016. The findings reveal that organizational and economic drivers are, from the firms’ perspective, the most prominent stimulus for energy efficiency and that they consider policy instruments and market drivers to be less important. Secondly, firm size has a positive effect on the firms’ energy efficiency, while the literature is inconclusive considering sectorial impact. Third, the studies are mainly conducted in the US and Western European countries, despite the fact that future increase in energy demand is expected outside these regions. These findings imply a potential mismatch between energy policy-makers’ and firm mangers’ understanding of which factors are most important for achieving increased energy efficiency in manufacturing firms. Energy policies should target the stimulation of management, competence, and organizational structure in addition to the provision of economic incentives. Further understanding about which and how internal resources, organizational capabilities, and management practices impact energy efficiency in manufacturing firms is needed. Future energy efficiency scholars should advance our theoretical understanding of the relationship between energy efficiency improvements in firms, the related change processes, and the drivers that affect these processes.

2020
Purpose: The present paper aims to analyze the Operations Management (OM) research between 2014 and 2018 that has made use of Partial Least Squares (PLS) to determine whether the trends shown in previous literature reviews focused on this topic are maintained and whether the analyzed papers comply with the recommendations for reporting.Design/methodology/approach: A systematic literature review has been carried out of OM articles that use PLS as an analysis tool. A total of 102 references from 45 journals from 2014 to 2018, published in WOS and Scopus, has been analyzed. Bibliometric analysis and a review of the PLS reporting standards applied in the context of OM have been developed.Findings: PLS is gaining importance and is widely adopted in OM as a statistical analysis method of choice. In general, certain aspects of PLS are correctly applied and adequately reported in the publications. However, some shortcomings continue to be observed in terms of their application and the reporting of results. A detailed comparison has been developed between the current research and previous OM research (as well as previous research on other disciplines) on this topic.Research limitations/implications: OM researchers making use of PLS should be aware of the importance of correctly reasoning and justifying their choice and fully reporting the main parameters in order to provide other researchers with useful information and enable them to reproduce the performed analysis.Originality/value: This article builds a study with results based on a greater number of articles and journals than the two previous literature reviews focused on this topic. Therefore, it provides a richer and more up-to-date evaluation of trends in the use and reporting of PLS. Additionally, the present paper assesses whether the studies follow the indications suggested in recent years triggered by significant changes in the standards of reporting results obtained through the use of PLS.

Purpose: This article examines the relevant literature to show how integration between Collaborative Manufacturing and Production Planning can be used and benefitted in the manufacturing business. This study seeks to provide a complete picture of the present condition, research trend, and application of Collaborative Manufacturing by taking into account some production planning indicators to aid many firms implementing greater technical collaboration amongst them.Design/methodology/approach: This analysis located all currently available studies on collaborative manufacturing and production planning through a thorough examination of the literature. During the review, a series of measures were taken. The study began by determining the study's objectives, selecting acceptable keywords, and reducing the selected papers based on a variety of criteria. The final paper that met the review's criteria was subjected to a more thorough examination. A review of literature has been conducted which include 62 primary studies from Academic databases: Scopus and Sciencedirect with main focus on collaborative manufacturing and production planning.Findings: The study's three primary conclusions are as follows. An overview of the variables influencing collaborative manufacturing and production planning is presented first. The second point is the identification of a number of ideas, techniques, and mathematical modeling in collaborative manufacturing and production planning. Third, Collaborative Manufacturing and Production Planning's future research directions are given.Research limitations/implications: Future research may also take into account numerous goals, the fusion of optimization and metaheuristic techniques, and other tools to enhance the performance of the model's goal. The paper's objectives are to present a succinct review of the current situation and to pave the way for further field research.Practical implications: Collaborative manufacturing should not just concentrate on strategic aspects while managing their networks. Rather, consideration should be given to more technical factors like production planning. Future academics will use the future research direction provided in this study as a guide for how to approach joint production planning.Originality/value: Additionally, this study provides various areas for future research and serves as a guide for research to advance studies in collaborative manufacturing and production planning.

Purpose: Demand Driven Material Requirements Planning (DDMRP) aims to deal with variability by adjusting inventory levels while maintaining, or even increasing, customer service levels. This approach bridges the push and pull approaches. Even though it first made its appearance in 2011, research in this field remains relatively limited. This paper aims to measure the spatiotemporal evolution of the DDMRP, its scope and context of implementation, and the research lines studied in that field in order to identify areas that still need to be addressed by future researchers. Design/methodology/approach: The systematic literature review approach adopted in this paper examines research dealing with the DDMRP approach published in different languages between 2009 and 2020. To-date papers focused on the performance analysis and comparison, what differentiates this study is the focus on the scientific evolution level of DDMRP, the parameters, and contexts that should be more studied. Findings: The results show that DDMRP is not yet a mature method and that the robustness of the approach still needs to be tested. More research is also required to determine scientifically some setting parameters, how the proposed DDMRP could be implemented in different industrial contexts with existing information systems. Originality/value: Based on the evolution analysis of DDMRP, this study outlines its current state of maturity and its different shortcomings under a broader vision to make this method more complete on the scientific and industrial level.

Introduction: Expanding and sustaining antiretroviral therapy (ART) coverage may require simplified HIV service delivery strategies that concomitantly reduce the burden of care on the health system and patients while ensuring optimal outcomes. We conducted a systematic review to assess the impact of reduced frequency of clinic visits and drug dispensing on patient outcomes.
Methods: As part of the development process of the World Health Organization antiretroviral (ARV) guidelines, we systematically searched medical literature databases for publications up to 30 August 2016. Information was extracted on trial characteristics, patient characteristics and the following outcomes: mortality, morbidity, treatment adherence, retention, patient and provider acceptability, cost and patients exiting the programme. When feasible, conventional pairwise meta‐analyses were conducted.
Results and discussion: Of 6443 identified citations, 21 papers, pertaining to 16 studies, were included in this review, with 11 studies contributing to analyses. Although analyses were feasible, they were limited by the sparse evidence base, despite the importance of the research area, and relatively low quality. Comparative analyses of eight studies reporting on frequency of clinic visits showed that less frequent clinic visits led to higher odds of being retained in care (odds ratio [OR]: 1.90; 95% CI: 1.21–2.99). No differences were found with respect to viral failure, morbidity or mortality; however, most estimates were favourable to reduced clinic visits. Reduced frequency of ARVs pick‐ups showed a trend towards better retention (OR: 1.93; 95% CI: 0.62–6.04). Strategies using community support tended to have better outcomes; however, their implementation varied, particularly by location. External validity may be questionable.
Conclusions: Our systematic review suggests that reduction of clinical visits (and likely ARVs pick‐ups) may improve clinical outcomes, and that they are a viable option to relieve health systems and reduce burden of care for PLHIV. Strategies aimed at reducing clinic visits or drug refill services should focus on stable patients who are virally suppressed, tolerant to their drug regimen and fully adherent. These strategies may be critical to the current changes taking place in HIV treatment policy; thus, due to the data limitations, further high quality research is needed to inform policy and programmatic interventions.

AI adoption, artificial intelligence, organisational changes, organisational enablers, public institution, systematic literature review
2024
Purpose: The purpose of the presented study was to develop a set of recommendations for decision-makers (policymakers and public managers) and public employees to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of organisational elements in the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in public institutions. Design/methodology/approach: Utilising a systematic literature review following the PRISMA protocol, the study examines the organisational enablers of AI adoption in public institutions. Comprehensive search queries in the Scopus database identified relevant literature focusing on the intersection of AI technologies and various organisational elements. The analysis was facilitated by NVivo 12, enabling a structured examination of key organisational facets for people, culture, structure, processes, and technology within public institutions. Findings: Previous studies on AI adoption in public institutions identified numerous enablers of AI adoption associated with organisational elements like people/employees, structure, culture, technology, and processes. Several surveys and case studies stress the importance of concentrating on the introduction or transformation of these organisational elements prior to or concurrently with the adoption of AI. Academic contribution to the field: By applying a systematic literature review protocol, the study represents the first holistic and systematic review of specific organisational elements that can serve as enablers of AI adoption in public institutions. Research limitations/implications: This systematic literature review was subject to several limitations. Firstly, the division of AI literature between natural and social sciences, with the former focusing on technical aspects and the latter on broader organisational themes, may have resulted in an incomplete depiction of the intersection of AI and organisational change. Secondly, despite the broad search queries, inherent limitations of keyword-based searches may have excluded some relevant studies. Thirdly, considering the rapid evolution of AI technology, our review may not fully encapsulate the very latest developments in the field as it covers literature published until May 2023. Finally, the interpretation and coding of literature, despite the use of NVivo 12, involved subjective elements that could affect the study’s outcomes. Practical implications: Drawing from experiences in the private sector, public institutions are increasingly adopting AI technologies across various subsectors such as public finance (taxation), research, healthcare, law enforcement, defence, education. This requires a transformation in both hard (structure, processes etc.) and soft aspects (people, organisational culture etc.). Therefore, the enablers identified in the study can serve as guidelines for decision-makers and implementers of AI at all levels of public institutions. Social implications: If adopted effectively and efficiently and used professionally and ethically, the use of AI in public institutions can bring many benefits to society, such as transparency, justice, cost and time efficiency, high quality services, and improved collaboration between different stakeholders in society. Originality/significance/value: Our study makes a distinct contribution by shifting the focus from technological barriers to organisational enablers of AI adoption in public institutions. It bridges a critical gap in the literature by integrating both technical and social science perspectives, providing valuable insights for theory and practice in the fields of organisation and management.

Purpose: Correlation-based storage assignment approach has been intensively explored during the last three decades to improve the order picking efficiency. The purpose of this study is to present a comprehensive assessment of the literature about the state-of-the-art techniques used to solve correlated storage location assignment problems (CSLAP).Design/methodology/approach: A systematic literature review has been carried out based on content analysis to identify, select, analyze, and critically summarize all the studies available on CSLAP. This study begins with the selection of relevant keywords, and narrowing down the selected papers based on various criteria.Findings: Most correlated storage assignment problems are expressed as NP-hard integer programming models. The studies have revealed that CSLAP is evaluated with many approaches. The solution methods can be mainly categorized into heuristic approach, meta-heuristic approach, and data mining approach. With the advancement of computing power, researchers have taken up the challenge of solving more complex storage assignment problems. Furthermore, applications of the models developed are being tested on actual industry data to comprehend the efficiency of the models.Practical implications: The content of this article can be used as a guide to help practitioners and researchers to become adequately knowledgeable on CSLAP for their future work.Originality/value: Since there has been no recent state-of-the-art evaluation of CSLAP, this paper fills that need by systematizing and unifying recent work and identifying future research scopes.

2021
Purpose: This study seeks to analyse how the servitization topic has been addressed through different theoretical approaches. More specifically, the aim is to answer two key questions: What theoretical approaches have been used to study the phenomenon of servitization? What specific aspects of the servitization process have been analysed through each theoretical approach? Design/methodology/approach: This paper adopts a systematic literature review. The first step involves a descriptive analysis, which is then followed by a thematic one. Findings: The results show that the topic of servitization has been analysed according to the main boundary of the firm theories (Resource-based view, Game theory, and Transaction cost economics) and to organizational boundaries (Contingency theory and Resource dependence theory), among others. From the perspective of these theoretical frameworks, the following topics have received the most scholarly attention: Performance, Capabilities, Supply Chain Management, Business Model, Strategy, and Sustainability. Originality/value: Observations are made on the relevance that diverse theories have on the development of research into servitization. The most suitable theoretical lenses are recommended for future research.

Purpose: Despite the influx of Lean frameworks in literature, there seems to be no standardised or established methods for designing them. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to investigate what design methods and design elements are utilised in creating Lean frameworks.Design/methodology/approach: A systematic literature review (SLR) was conducted to find all the available studies on Lean frameworks.Findings: This study found that the formation of the framework could be broken down into four different categories; namely: approaches or methods for designing, design elements to include, theory to investigate during the literature studies and framework testing methods for evaluating the framework.Research limitations/implications: While this research focused on Lean frameworks, it is recommended that future studies look at Lean models and roadmaps.Practical implications: The artefact created in this study, the House of Guidance, will provide future researchers with a guideline on how to go about designing a Lean framework.Originality/value: The SLR looked at pre-existing frameworks, in order to extract the categories for the development of Lean frameworks. This study presents the House of Guidance (an original artefact), to aid in the design and creation of future Lean Frameworks.
