Risking NATO
2010
NATO's success in Afghanistan--or lack thereof--will have significant implications for the alliance itself. The authors examine the current mission in light of NATO's history and with an eye toward the future. NATO faces a long and daunting list of issues that extends beyond the borders of the member countries. The alliance must confront them, however, because failure to do so would risk its long-term success and sustainability.
The cosmopolitan military : armed forces and human security in the 21st century
What role should national militaries play in an increasingly globalised and interdependent world? This book examines the often difficult transition they have made toward missions aimed at protecting civilians and promoting human security, and asks whether we might expect the emergence of armed forces that exist to serve the wider human community.

2018
This book contains the proceedings of the 14th International Conference on $p$-adic Functional Analysis, held from June 30-July 5, 2016, at the Universite d'Auvergne, Aurillac, France. Articles included in this book feature recent developments in various areas of non-Archimedean analysis: summation of p -adic series, rational maps on the projective line over Q p , non-Archimedean Hahn-Banach theorems, ultrametric Calkin algebras, G -modules with a convex base, non-compact Trace class operators and Schatten-class operators in p -adic Hilbert spaces, algebras of strictly differentiable functions, inverse function theorem and mean value theorem in Levi-Civita fields, ultrametric spectra of commutative non-unital Banach rings, classes of non-Archimedean Köthe spaces, p -adic Nevanlinna theory and applications, and sub-coordinate representation of p -adic functions. Moreover, a paper on the history of p -adic analysis with a comparative summary of non-Archimedean fields is presented.Through a combination of new research articles and a survey paper, this book provides the reader with an overview of current developments and techniques in non-Archimedean analysis as well as a broad knowledge of some of the sub-areas of this exciting and fast-developing research area.
Civil-military relations in Indonesia : the politics of military operations other than war
\"This book examines military operations other than war (MOOTW) of the Indonesian military in the post-Suharto period and argues that the twin development of democratic consolidation, marked by 'stable' civil-military relations in 2004-2014 under Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's presidency, and the internationalization of the military have not yet entirely de-politicized the armed forces. This book shows how peacekeeping, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, and counter-terror missions have been reinvented by the Indonesian military (Tentara Nasional Indonesia, TNI) to adhere to its politico-institutional interests, rather than to divert military attention from politics. In contrast with conventional arguments about the rationale of MOOTW in promoting military professionalism, this book provides the first critical analysis of the development of these missions and correlates them with TNI's concerted effort to preserve territorial command structure - a military network that parallels the civilian bureaucracy down to village level. The book argues that the military in Indonesia remains domestically political amidst high intensity of international activism. A detailed investigation of civil-military relations in Indonesia, this book will be of interest to scholars in the field of Southeast Asian studies, Asian politics and more generally to those interested in Civil-Military Relations, military politics and Military Operations Other Than War\"-- Provided by publisher.
Alter-azioni. Forme e temporalità della decomposizione nel progetto
2022
The article explores the role of decay and its distinctive temporalities, highlighting the need to deal with change, randomness and disorder, to cultivate an attitude open to non-human other- ness, as part of an expanded concept of agency. The decomposition process of the dead tree as an access key to illustrate the importance of reasoning on co-becoming for the landscape project. A relationship that undoes the form, tears it apart, and infects it with otherness. Decomposing is a useful conceptual tool for thinking about biological diversity in the city and for changing the very vocabulary of the project, towards the concept of contamination. The article investigates the saproxylic insects, to discuss some methodologies aimed at interspecies practice, such as decentralizing human-centred ethics, adopting the animal point of view and hypothesizing the queering of the conventional canons of public space.
