As part of its ongoing efforts to promote culture and literature, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library organised a workshop titled "Setting as a Third Character" by the iconic writer Tarek Emam. The workshop is part of the library’s series of writing workshops aimed at exploring the elements of novel writing and developing the skills of young authors and enthusiasts in the field of literature.

The workshop, distinguished by its rich information and wide participation from audiences of different ages, provided an introductory overview of the Mohammed bin Rashid Award for Arabic Language and its significance in the world of Arabic literature, in addition to shedding light on the application and participation process.

The workshop addressed key topics on the role of place as a primary element in the novel, with Emam providing a comprehensive analysis of the patterns and forms of setting and how they interact with fictional characters and influence the development of events. He emphasised that every action or event in the narrative text has a place that reflects and expresses it, as if the place is a mirror for the event and the characters as well.

The workshop, which constitutes a significant milestone in the journey of developing writers and intellectuals in the field of literature, included tangible examples from both Arabic and Western literature to illustrate the importance of place in character-building and event narration. During the workshop, Emam asked the participants to write texts that depict the setting as a speaking character in the novel. Following which, he discussed and evaluated these texts.

The event witnessed significant interaction and applause from the attendees, who expressed their admiration for the rich and useful content. The attendees commended the distinctive and diverse activities organised by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library and its prominent role in promoting culture and knowledge.

Since its establishment, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library has been keen on providing unique educational and cultural opportunities for community members. This supports its vision and strategy to encourage reading and stimulate passion for knowledge among future generations, by providing a unique platform that contributes to consolidating its position as a leading hub for knowledge and culture.
